Clarebear's daily check in

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

You must be getting excited now, Clarebear -- I have a niece in western Australia named Clare whom I haven't seen since she was a toddler. So I particularly envy you!

thanks Linda!

Portion control is going well, I fancied some hummus today so I added some with a few breadsticks to my plate, because I have cut my portions down I ate the hummus but couldn't eat all of my sandwhich! My stomach was full and it felt great to stop eating and push my plate away :D

Clarebear, my sister just got back from a 2-week visit to family in Perth and said she effortlessly lost 5 pounds while she was there! She said she didn't do much exercise, but the family eats a very good high fruit-and-veg/low baked goods diet, oatmeal for breakfast, and -- NEVER eats between meals! I think we've got a convert!

Brilliant JW!
I'm so excited, it will be my first holiday where I don't have to give food a second thought, I don't have to worry what restaurant we go to or what food our friends have in the house. I can enjoy 3 lovely yummy meals and puddings when it's weekend. I just keep saying to my husband to be 'i can't explain how happy I am and how I've been set free'! it must sound weird to someone who has never dietied and 3 meals a day is normal to them to hear it but he is so pleased about what NOs has done for me :D

just to let you know I'm still here but not checking in everyday
I had a red day on Tuesday, this sounds weird but I'm glad I did. I had tea then a couple of shortbread biscuits and a cadbury mini roll. It didn't feel good after I'd done it, sweets were just wrong on a weekday and I had no desire to eat anymore! Yesterday was fine. This is major progress to me! I'm in control!

Still plugging away. Holiday in less than 2 weeks so upping the exercise a little, trying to do a metafit routine everyday

Like Linda, I feel like I don't really have much to report but this can only be a good thing. :)

Hi Clarebear! I am also not checking in as regularly….

Hey, I had a very similar day today to your Tuesday last week by the sounds of things…I had a bit of a wobble but didn't let it turn into a full-on binge! I had massive urges to but was able to contain it - who is this person I'm becoming ??

Bought a shovel glove but haven't started - what is metafit? Sounds hardcore and fun. Keep up the amazing work! :D

metafit is high intensity exercises with very short rest periods, the sessions are only 20-30 mins long but my goodness it's hard work! I love it cos my exercise for the day is over after half an hour!

I keep thinking about buying a shovel glove!

well, 3 red days so far this month, but do you know what?- I'm ok with it. In the beginning I thought a red day would completely derail me but it doesn't. That to me is success. My red days haven't been wild binges either. They have been 1 item in the evening, I have wanted it, had it then marked it and moved on! The 2 red days I have just had are due to time of the month issues so I am writing them off and its ok! I am happy because at one time I would have written the whole week off and said oh I'll start on Monday. With Nos I haven't once done that, the next meal/day is a fresh start.

I'm feeling a little flabby, this is a mental thing as I know I'll be wearing a bikini this weekend so I have just got to ignore the horrible voice in my head and press on!

Clarebear!!!! Good luck honey! Ahhh, what an amazing preparation for your new life and you've laid fantastic founcations. Fuck the red days!!! Who cares!!!! It's the overall direction that counts!! And NoS is a way of life not a diet that we have to do perfectly....right? Can't wait to hear how it goes!! Massive love and all best wishes for your trip and big day :P 8) :D

ps/ shovelglove is AWESOME fun!! I bought a 7lb one from a hardware store near me. I've suspended my gym membership for December so I can give it a good go although to be honest I've only done two 14 minute shovelglove sessions  that's coz I've been a bit sick though but next week I'll make it official on my Habitcal and try to do 14 minutes on every N day.

It's probably too late but have a wonderful time. I'm sure you look beautiful no matter what so just go and enjoy yourself.

Such a great attitude about your red days and the fact that they've been so mild shows how calm & sane you're feeling about your eating.

Enjoy & can't wait to hear about all the fun you've had!

thanks JW! and to you :)

My wedding is now 17 weeks away so I am on a mission to eat lots more vegetables and fruits for my skin! I really have to crack down on my S days too, I don't want to restrict too much but I think leading up to the wedding 1 treat per S day is enough!

Welcome back clarebear! So glad you had a fun time!

I think your S day plan sounds fine. If it starts to feel too restrictive, you can always revise it. Can't fail S days so doesn't hurt to experiment.

ok so I said I wasn't going to weight myself until a year on NO s but I have just weighed myself but something good has happened. The number didn't bother me! I really feel that now I know what the number is I can keep that in my head so that when I feel like eating more than I should on an S day I can think about the number and it should be enough to stop it! My sensible goal is to lose 1lb per week until the wedding then lose a bit more after that then it will just be maintenance :)

well restricting myself to 1 treat per S day was asking for trouble, I instantly felt restricted and ended up having allsorts! Back to how I was before the hols I think!-I had got in a good place with my S days. I'm so mad at myself but just got to press on. New week and all that :D

Hi clarebear!

Glad the weighing didn't freak you out too much. I'm still too afraid to get on the scale. It doesn't sound like you have much weight to lose, if any, so it will probably come off quite slowly. The important thing if you've found peace with you're eating. Remember that beauty comes in all sizes and I know you will be a beautiful bride no matter what!

On another note, I really felt resistant to the idea of limiting S days to one treat a day as well. I'm not sure two a week feel like enough. That's why I gave myself the option of 6 floating S events in exchange for structured S days. I haven't used them much but it's kind of a security blanket for now.

Anyway I know you'll figure it out!

Linda :)

Hello Linda

not logged on for a while, I must have sensed your message!
They are thank you :) I am so excited!
I am still doing NO S (the no snacking part) but I'm calorie counting alongside it as although I have found peace with eating I haven't really loss any weight and my bingeing at weekends was becoming an issue, I have only decided to calorie count so that I can shift a bit of weight for the wedding, nothing drastic though, aiming for 0.5 lbs per week :)

Thanks for stopping by, you are so lovely! :D

Hi clarebear!

Great to hear from you. So sorry to hear your not losing weight but maybe you'll be able to ditch the calorie counting once your at the maintenance level.

Glad things with the wedding are coming along nicely. I bet your dress is lovely!

Hey Clarebear!

Great to be back and to read where you're up to. I totally identify with wanting to lose weight. I haven't' lost any on No S either and am feeling impatient. I think I will buy some scales when I get paid next Friday - one's that show body fat% as well which might be a better guide than overall weight.

Anyway, glad you're in a good place and looking forward to your wedding. Did you love Australia??

xx
