Minimalism/Decluttering

Post by eschano » Tue Jul 17, 2018 6:55 am

Hello! Anyone here still experimenting with minimalism? We are drowning in plastic toys for our kids but also clothes that no longer fit and general tat in our house so are trying to slowly poring it down.
I read the Marie Kondo method and it makes sense except we cannot use one big day of decluttering - with an 11week old breastfed baby and a 23months old there is simply no time.
I also read a collection of the minimalist’s essays which very much appeal to me.
I feel like I need to slim down mentally as much as physically and there is just so much stuff around! Is anyone else struggling/experimenting/doing it and has anyone got a “system†for it that works for them?

I do not have a system, but I am trying. I give a lot of things away on my local Buy Nothing group on Facebook, and I also give a lot to Goodwill. We also get some things from the Buy Nothing group. It's great for kid's hand me downs and books and toys, because you can pass along things you don't like that someone else would potentially like.

Oh I never heard of a buy nothing group, I’ll check if we have one near me! Thanks for the tip.
We are just refurbishing the kitchen and are decluttering it in the process so will have quite a few bits to give away.

So there isn’t a buy nothing group in my area but I have started my own group with friends for now.
We are getting rid of loads and the house is still full of stuff. Considering something much more radical but am not quite there yet.
