Fixing a hickory handle

Take a sledgehammer and wrap an old sweater around it. This is your "shovelglove." Every week day morning, set a timer for 14 minutes. Use the shovelglove to perform shoveling, butter churning, and wood chopping motions until the timer goes off. Stop. Rest on weekends and holidays. Baffled? Intrigued? Charmed? Discuss here.

Fixing a hickory handle

I'm an old framing carpenter and the way we used to fix hammer handles on Vaughn framing hammers was to take our utility knife, hold it at an angle tilted away from your body and peel the varnish off the handle. When you get it down to raw wood it is easier to handle. I did this with both my 8lb and 16lb sledge and the grip is much better when doing SG.
