The Daily Dandelion

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Well, I teach at a community college now (I know, no middle-schoolers to nurture anymore!!!) but I taught middle and high school for 6 years before doing this.

And there's nothing like reading adult evaluations of my teaching every quarter. Ouch. Always puts me in a great mood (not).

Oh, dear. That doesn't sound like fun at all.

I just feel so terribly behind in every part of my life right now. I have felt like I have been 'white knuckling' it for so long. I look forward to being able to clean my house, spend more time cooking and maybe even go for some hikes, bike rides and tennis games with the family. Although, I have been gardening, which has been fun for me, and I have planned meals for the next week or so that I like, but will be easy to make.

Tonight is chicken and artichokes, forbidden rice and roasted broccoli. No dessert - too busy gardening to fix anything! - though there were brownies for tea :)

Dandelion I hope your summer break starts soon so you can enjoy some down time. Ours is right around the corner (may 22).

I really admire your passion for gardening. Sadly I have a black thumb.

It's getting close! I do have to work quite a lot in the summer on tech support, but it's not the same as having to do all that and my classes as well.

I'm glad I got my gardening time in yesterday. It's downright chilly today! I only put out a few things that can take the cold. We won't be safe from frost until mid-May and even then sometimes a big hail storm rolls in and takes everything out .Not a good day for drying clothes on the line, but great for cooking. I'm braising short ribs and baking cookies.

Forbidden rice is my favorite rice :) - http://www.lotusfoods.com/Forbidden-Ric ... sFoods@All

It sounded so much like my former self, too. I'm so glad I'm beyond that now.

I actually wrote a whole, long post in the 'younger self' thread, and a similar one last night about that blog entry. Obviously I deleted them :). The worst years span two decades for me - and though I'm much better now, they are still painful memories, and the effects still linger.

I feel like I do need to write it someday. I watch so many other women going through the same thing today and it's heartbreaking.

And fwiw - I don't eat any food for the health hype - and that includes forbidden rice. It's all 'blah, blah antioxidants' blah blah, longevity'. I eat it because it's tastes really good, and it looks pretty on my plate - especially BBQ chicken, snow peas and cauliflower :).

Hi Dandelion,

It would be great if one day you could write that post. I think so many of us could benefit from it. But understood if it's too painful still.

Also, I love your attitude in regards to healthy food. Personally, I just like trying new things.

I love love love this! This is where I need to work on my "nutrition-head". I am still rebelling against the nutrition-obsessed years of my 20's, but I would love to get to a place where I eat like this. Thanks for the inspiration.

Great, Diligence - I hope you like it...and it likes you!

Auto: That is a tough thing to do. I found it messes it my eating so much. And so much of the time the 'experts' they have an axe to grind or a supplement to flog, or they're just plain wrong. Because of my 'rebellion' against the 'experts', I got heavily into 'traditional food' (WAPF style) - raw milk, cheese, butter, homemade everything, jars of things fermenting or sprouting in every corner of my kitchen. Nothing wrong with that, and I still do much of it, but I've learned to cut myself some slack these days when I need to.

The only expert I care about anymore is my own body. I don't even think all 'emotional' eating is actually emotional anymore, or that comfort food is bad or weak or wrong. Sometimes there is an actual biological reason and I no longer ignore it or feel like a failure if I listen to it anymore.

In fact, it's only Tuesday but my family is sick, so many of the students are sick (two in hospital), and the teachers that aren't actually off sick are not looking so healthy these days either. I'm so tired and achy right now I think I may not be too far behind. Oh, and the weather is cold and crazy windy. So yeah. Comfort food it is - and all my homework can wait a day, too!

Yep. That's how I found it myself. It gets me in trouble at the store sometimes, though. There are always so many new and interesting things to try I have been known to get carried away and come home with things that looked interesting... but I have no idea what to do with them. Yet :)

I weighed in this morning, and the result is that I am down 4 pounds this month. That was exactly what I was hoping for, so I'm feeling pretty good about that. Not feeling as 'onthevergeofillness' as I was yesterday, so even better!

Congrats Dandeloin! Now that I finally got brave enough to weigh myself, I'm really curious to see where my weight goes--I'd be thrilled to be down 4 lbs/mos I have one stubborn body!

I love your overall attitude towards food. My MIL is very weight conscience which she tries to portray as a health thing. She's looked down on us as we've enjoyed normal wholesome food but on her last visit she was all excited because the "health experts" have now deemed "bacon & butter" okay.

I kind of went off on her because all along I've been saying everything in moderation including moderation. I'm sure she just adores me but oh well I had to speak up & tell her to please stop listening to these ppl w their agendas.

Oh btw, I picked up forbidden rice yesterday at the store. I'm going to make it with chicken breasts poached in coconut milk & green mango salad!

Keep up the great work!

Oooo...that sounds really good!

I'm just tired of the agenda around food. I spent too many years chasing around the latest 'healthy' thing - only to be told later that it was actually not very healthy at all, and the thing I replaced (oops) really was.

Not only do I refuse to label food as healthy or unhealthy, (or even 'sometimes' and 'never', 'indulgent', 'decadent' 'sinful' or any other of those types of words). It's just 'food' or 'not food' (for instance, in my house, aspartame is 'not food') I've also decided that the word 'healthy' means nothing these days. Healthy is in the eye of the beholder - and I wouldn't eat what some of those beholders tell me is healthy if they paid me.

Besides who decided all food must be 'healthy'? Sometimes I just want to eat cake. For fun. :)

Sorry - I'm in a weird mood today - a combination of failures and then total, astounding successes at work. Makes me feel kinda wired. I need to go for a walk and walk off some of this energy!

Is it 100 degrees where you are? We're back to sunshine, though it's still windy. Next week we're supposed to be in the upper 80s. I don't tolerate heat very well, so afternoon walks might be a thing of the past, very soon, so I'm enjoying it while I can. But evening walks have their own charms. Morning walks are a bit tricky until my work schedule changes.

Hi Dandelion,

I saw that you wrote this on auto's thread but didn't want to hijack her thread with my response:
Dandelion wrote: I'm so tired of the mess :(
I don't have a cleaning system as we have a fortnightly cleaner who does all the hard work (yep, best £40 per month spent ever, although it required giving up my morning lattes for good).

However, as a tidy-up system, mine is simple:

I have learnt to tidy the kitchen while I am cooking (as something needs to boil I am already putting something back in the dishwasher and so on) so I'm often left with only the plates and dishes we use to put away after dinner.

My other trick is to put away everything straight after I use it.

However, I currently fight an uphill battle with my boyfriend about this because I'm not delighted about putting his stuff away all the time. (he's more a binge-tidier).

Hey just wanted to jump in really quickly here & say I'm a big believer in clean as you go & put everything away immediately. I used to leave stuff out because someone might need it later. Inevitably many things never got put back. Now even if I'm positive I'm going to need it in 20 mins, I put it away immediately, because so many times I get sidetracked and don't get to the things I thought I was going to do.

Also to eschanos re: cleaning up after your bf, I've kind of embraced the idea that everyone should be required to clean up to their standards. So since I'm the one that wants everything spotless & pristine, I'm the one that does the most cleaning. I noticed since I stop nagging my DH & kids about cleaning, they've just automatically been a little better about cleaning up after themselves.

Not that you're nagging him or even overly annoyed but just thought I'd put it out there. Here's flyladys same idea on this:
http://www.flylady.net/d/br/2012/06/29/ ... -attitude/

Also yes, auto if you can find a way to get a cleaning person in with all your newfound savings once or twice a month, I think you will find it money very well spent. It makes a huge difference !

Okay sorry for hijacking your thread Dandeloin!

Hello, first Monday in May!

I don't know about the rest of you, but I find this whole habit forming a whole lot easier when I have a set schedule, like I do when I'm working. I'd like to have a good framework in place before school finishes in three weeks.

C'mon May. Let's do this :)

As you can see, I did survive Tuesday. I still have a bad attitude today - but I think based on the way some things are going it's legit, so I'm okay with that. I'll get over it :)

Not much of a NoS nature to report. I've been overeating at meals for some reason. It lasted four days, but I think it's over now. Hope so anyway.

The bad attitude is losing its grip. Never underestimate the power of just sitting with and chatting about nothing with people who actually like you, even when you have a dozen other things you should be doing. Sometimes, it's just necessary.

That is SO true! I know when I get stressed out at home, and I'm able to have some time with adults whom I like and who like me (like in my Bible study group), I feel SO much better afterwards.

Yes, I felt so much better! I think I'm going to have to remember that. I think a lot of people are so much more likely to tough it out and tackle the 'shoulds' of the day rather than take time out that could turn the whole day around.

Today was a good day, too. Nothing to do with eating, there was no opportunity to eat outside of meals, so not eating was hardly an accomplishment :). I spent the day outside (always good, even though it was 50some degrees and I was wearing shorts and flipflops), met some new people and thoroughly enjoyed myself even if it was for work. At least it was different from the usual workday. Glad to be home, though.

I've decided I'm not ready to go to monthly weigh-ins, so I've decided on Tuesday and Saturday. I was really surprised when I weighed this morning. I was down a little more than I expected. I am aiming for the minimum compliance required to see a positive change (however small), so maybe I've found it.

I've done the 'if X works, than 10xX must be better', and suffered the consequences. The hair loss, the lack of energy, the slowed metabolism, and the inevitable rebound weight gain on fewer calories than before.

And that's just the effects that I could see. People forget that just because one can survive on very few calories, food is not just about calories - it's about nutrients. I don't want my body cannibalizing itself to make up for an inadequate diet. And I do want to have 'somewhere to go' if I need to cut back a bit more at a later date. Not to mention it's just easier to stick to :)

Do you ever read something that just strikes a chord with you? in the diet-world, almost never. It happens more and more often though now that I follow more 'moderate' people. Today I read this:

"We (most people at least) don't need to be on a quest for new diet ideas. We need better adherence to the timeless ideas - appropriate calorie intake, variety of foods, fruits and veggies

That ole boring stuff.

The challenge now is that we have too much information (and misinformation), not too little. And every magical new eating plan muddies the waters even more. We don't need elaborate and hard-to-sustain - we need to rock the hell out of the simple things."

Sean Flanagan

I must admit, this has been a tough week for me. I've got my head down and I'm plodding along trying not to drop any of the balls I'm juggling and when and what I eat isn't isn't one of those balls. Maybe in a couple of weeks. And when I do, I hope I don't.

And if that makes any sense to you, I"m impressed!

Too funny! I had just reread your 2nd to last paragraph through (and was still kind of scratching my head) and then read the next sentence about ... and if that makes any sense to you.....

Hope you have a restful weekend, Dandelion!

Sorry you're struggling. I haven't had the best eating week, either. I love your quotes! I definitely feel like I have too much information, in terms of dieting, and it hasn't done me much good. I think focusing on moderation is definitely the best way to go.

I hope everyone is having a lovely weekend. We spent it working around the house - mainly outdoors. I wore myself out, but it's nice to be worn out form physical work instead of mental work for a change!

I am working on emptying the freezer - so we had soup for dinner and I made bread. I used to make bread a couple of times a week, but lately I"ve slacked off and started buying it. Even though we buy good bread, it is nothing compared to how good homemade bread is right out of the oven. Especially dripping with good butter. As I ate it, I thought how thankful I am that I learned how to cook - and that I know that butter is an amazingly healthy food.

I use the Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day method (ish). I've modified it a bit for us. When I keep up with it, I make enough for a couple of loaves and a large pizza each week.

We ate all of it last night, so I've got another loaf rising.

We had another hard working gardening weekend. There's so much to do, but once you start seeing a little progress, it's tough to stop.

That sounds delicious! Are you using a bread maker or doing it yourself? I failed ridiculously with some baguettes I tried to make the other day as they just didn't rise enough. But it was my first try so hopefully eventually I'll get it.

I just do it myself. I never did like breadmaker bread for some reason. This isn't 'perfect' either, but it's convenient and easy. I let mine over-rise last night. OOps. It was good enough for sandwiches today - and my dipping in olive oil with my caprese salad at lunch :)

I can't do that too often. It sounded so good to me, and it was good, but it just wasn't enough food. I ended up eating all kinds of things trying to prop myself back up a couple of hours later.

Stopping by to say I love your thread, Dandelion. :P

And I LOVE gardening. I am out at the break of dawn checking on things before work and have to check everything right before dark to see what has grown during the day. I spent many of my "off work" hours loving my yard and gardens. We have a quarterhorse ranch and my husband is always threatening the horses that eventually all of their pastures will be perennial beds or English cottage cutting gardens. He might be right!

And I LOVE dipping crusty bread in olive oil and herbs. There is this local Amish bread that has cheddar cheese and black olives baked into the crust that is sooo good. Will have to try the yogurt dip as well.

Dandelion just stopping by to say I hope you stick around the board. Your sane point of view is valuable and there's definitely a few of us on the same page.

I went through what you did with your craziness over numbers. I was a size 6 wanting to be a size 4. Craziness! My first priority is sanity with food now and I swear I love this size 16/18 body 100x more than that size 6/8 body. Wisdom comes with age I guess!

I do try to avoid triggering posts though so hopefully you can do the same and maintain that great attitude!

You two have great timing. As I logged in tonight, I was wondering how much longer before I 'disappear' for a while and that really the only thing that keeps me going is the people. So, thank you for your kind, and timely, words.

We're in the last week of school and it's such a difficult time. I feel like I can barely keep up right now. Next week is all meetings and organizing. I work throughout the summer as well, but I can do a lot of it from home and only go in once or twice a week. And my weight - ick. It's back up three pounds. Yep. Every bit of it.

Unfortunately, my garden is a shadow of its former self. We had a big hailstorm this afternoon and I lost about a third of it. Luckily my most expensive and or special purchases, like my new apple tree, were sheltered.

I love the idea of an English garden, but I am not sure I can manage it here. I was determined I would bring it with me from England, but it hasn't really worked. It's not quite Arizona, but it's dry enough that I need to adapt it a bit. I love those cool morning garden walks, too Strawberry. Not that I have a lot of land. Just a small plot but I love to check on things everyday. It's nice to have my tea on the patio when the sun comes up. I look forward to that when I don't have to be at work at 7 something.

Linda, I guess it would be fair to say I love this body (same size, actually) more than I did when it was thin - but that isn't saying much. I sure was mean to it back then. And totally unappreciative. I don't feel comfortable though. I gained weight very quickly a few years ago, and it's still difficult to get used to. But I think I said before. I don't want to. Right now I'm feeling less charitable toward my body/self than usual.

Just for the record, and sort of off topic, (though not really) but it relates to something else I saw earlier, I'm not looking for or expecting 'magic'. I have always eaten 'right' and kept relatively active, and between a combination of things - like illness and medication - I suddenly gained weight. After years of perfectly stable weight. Heck. I even gained 50 pounds in a pregnancy after age 40 and lost that without trying. I don't expect anyone else to believe I didn't 'do' anything to gain. I know and anyone who knows me knows.

What I want is something sustainable. I 'new normal' that I can live with - something that is 'enough'. I don't care if I'm a size 5 again. I don't want to fight my body. Some people are okay with spending their lives dieting, starving and fighting their biology. I am not, and I sure don't want to be that boring person who talks about diets all the time. I don't want my life to be about my size; about struggle and bragging about 'hard work' . How sad is that? I don't even want it to come up. It's all most people I know - fat and thin - want to talk about. What they ate/should have/shouldn't have/ eaten, whether it's 'healthy' or not (as if there was no place for enjoyment of food) commenting on other people's food, or other people's bodies, as if they had any right to. I already spent my late teens, all my 20s, and most of my 30s caught up in all that. I want to find that balance - that harmony. I had it. I believe I can find it again.

Thanks once again to all of you for stopping by. I was feeling pretty low and hopeless tonight. Writing this down reminds me of what my goal truly is - and that doesn't begin/end with the a number on the scale. As Julia said '...above all, have a good time'. I think I forget that part sometimes.

A resounding yes to everything dandelion. I wish we were neighbors because whenever anyone brings up weight or dieting I quickly steer the conversation elsewhere.

I've read the Diet Myth so do believe you didn't do anything to gain the weight. Bodies are a mysterious thing and weight isn't about the simple equation of calories in, calories out like we've all been sold.

I'm sticking with nos because I'm finally able to stop obsessing about food/weight. It's given me more space to have a life instead of becoming my life like most diets do. If I happen to lose a little weight on the way great but yes I'm not expecting a whole lot in that dept w this stubborn body either.

It's okay though on NoS I can plainly see I'm eating moderately so wherever my weight lands, is where it's meant to be.

Long story short, I think you're on the right path.

Hope things calm down for you soon!

Linda :)

Dandelion, Sorry you are feeling down. You're right, that No S is a sustainable way to eat. I, too, am sick of all of the talk on dieting and weight. While I still want to lose weight, I think I would rather focus on staying healthy. I love the quote at the end of your post!

Thank you. I was afraid I was going to offend someone. I don't mean to. I was so fed up with so many things yesterday. My feelings are close to the surface right now and it feels like a lot of work to keep them from spilling out. I'm so tired of the knot in my stomach and the feeling that I'm failing in every way right now. And then feeling like such a self-centered whiner for feeling like that. I mean, some people have actual problems.

Geez. Yes, I'd love some cheese.

Thank you again!

I did find at least a partial answer to my teary day yesterday. I am not well. I haven't been sick in ages. I think the last time was November. But here it is, last (full) day of school. Great. If it was a regular day I'd have stayed home. I have a couple of things to take care of at work, then I'm going home by way of the doctor. Just hoping it's not one of the nasty things that's going around lately.

Hope you feel better soon. Take care of yourself, nurture your body and don't over do.

As far as the food/body mindset, I just try to think when I am eating a plate of food,

Is this going to be good for me or not? I try to answer yes more than no.

Not always, but usually I do. There are really no BAD foods, but some are more nourishing to my body than others and I know that. I pretend that a stranger might walk by my plate and glance at it. Would they think, Oh, that looks so good and healthy or YE GADS, I cannot believe she is putting all that garbage into her body. Of course, none of that would say that to a stranger but I imagine many have thought it.

Same at the end of the day, I ask - have I moved my body enough? I try to be able to say yes or if not, to try and do better "tomorrow."

Thank you! Doc says strep. Between that and three days of tornado warnings, it's not been a stellar week.

I"m sure a lot of people think "I can't believe she's putting that in her body' when they look at my plate. Oddly enough, no one ever comments on it. They're probably so shocked they don't know what to say - waiting for me to keel over from a heart attack because they think butter, egg yolks, full fat dairy, beef and cheese are 'bad'. But, since their idea of healthy is diet coke, lean cuisine, margarine and cool whip, I'm okay with it :); Besides, I well remember the days when I ate just like they do. It took me a lot of years and a lot of hard work to get passed that. We can only do the best we can with what we know.

To me, dandelion, your food choices are what I consider healthy & wholesome. Good for the soul, mind & body.

My body is the only one I listen to. Sometimes it wants scrambled eggs, sometimes it wants fresh fruit and other times it wants chips & dip. It's all good!

I totally agree! It's tough to comment, because people may think I'm talking about them. I'm not. I'm only talking about me. And I have flipped around so many times in what I eat. I think it's inevitable if you're paying any attention at all,and you've been around a few years.

The last year or so I've really relaxed a lot of my 'food rules'. There's enough stress in life without adding to it with (non-medical) food rules. I still eat pretty well, but it's because I like it, not because I'm afraid not to. I feel like this is a lot more 'liveable' place.

It's so funny how people get on completely different and inflexible sides when it comes to food choices.

Also, classic to be sick on the last day of school. I often get sick during my annual leave - I guess my body goes into shock when the stress subsides.

Well. That was unpleasant.

So happy to be back among the living and able to eat again. I don't usually list my meals, but one day last week was kinda funny. Very 'International' :)

B: Pain au chocolat
L: caprese panini
D: Chicken Korma and accompaniments

No snacks or desserts

Still not quite back to normal, but getting there. I did a bit more yard work than I should have yesterday and wasn't feeling too hot afterwards.

Sort of international again, but leaning French.
pain au chocolat (yes, again. At 6 am no less!)
Baguette with bacon (Though, bacon isn't so French)
Chocolate eclairs for Tea (Aaaand, we're back to French)
Mac and Cheese - British/Irish My husband makes it from scratch - He's British (and so is his recipe). The Cheese is irish, :)

Still British this morning - started the day with a fry-up. Well, partial fry-up. Need to go grocery shopping.

It's interesting that my thinking self would have avoided pretty much everything on that list for fear it would upset my already touchy stomach. I mean, look at that - cream, butter, cheese and bacon. Instead I decided to go with what sounded good to me and trust my body to know what it was needed. All is well.

Hi Dandelion--
Just anecdotally, it seems a lot of upset stomachs I read about on this forum are after meals with lots of fiber -- broccoli, various greens, nuts, seeds, etc. I know lots of people also do have dairy issues (thank goodness I don't!!) but that seems to be a different category of tummy troubles.

Anyway, glad your meal went down well, and good job to listen to your body!

Hi, Dandelion! Finally catching up with your page and, belatedly, wishing you a speedy recovery!

I wanted to tell you also how much your entry from a couple of weeks ago regarding your sudden and inexplicable weight gain meant to me. I have been feeling sorry for myself these last few days because I too am suddenly unable to drop 15-20 extra pounds that I used to shed within a few weeks through hardcore dieting. I am convinced it's part of my aging process, but it is VERY difficult to come to terms with and accept. You are not alone!!! And I am not alone (thank you!). I feel like a real louse being such a crybaby about it (even if just in my own head) since there are so many who have actual problems that they cheerfully deal with day in and day out. Maybe this process is to toughen us up in some way. I'm still waiting....

I LOVE what you eat, especially with a diet coke on the side! Sounds perfect to me.

p.s. I have read quit a few of your posts and have NEVER seen you write anything coming close to offensive. I value what you add to the discussion, especially since I am still riding with training wheels.

p.s.s. (and, sorry, a bit of a highjack here): Linda, I appreciate SO much that as a mother of two girls you make a conscious effort to deflect talk of dieting and weight. I am convinced that the majority of women here had mothers who did not think their talk (and particularly, their actions) on that front would have such lasting repercussions. I still have to remind my mother not to talk about stuff like that around my young nieces.

I know 'at my age' my body is *supposed* to put on a few pounds - like 10-15 pounds. Fat cells make estrogen and it's all part of the balancing act our bodies do to keep us healthy. I accept that and have changed my idea of what I should look like/weigh to accommodate this. It's the other 25 pounds I find so tough to cope with :)

I can't seem to make it budge now. I am going in this week to get thyroid bloodwork done. My doc seems to think it may be low again. We'll see.

Thanks for stopping by, and your kind words.

AE: Interesting thought. I know nuts and other planty things can be hard on the digestion even at the best of times. I don't normally have problems with dairy, but it has no appeal when I'm ill, so I avoid it then.

Sheesh, Dandelion, I completely understand your frustration. I hope your doctor can find a cause...it really does sound thyroidy.

BTW: I did NOT know that about the fat/estrogen connection. I mean I knew that fat stores estrogen, but did not know that the body tries to preserve estrogen by holding on to fat. That explains SO much. Thanks again!

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/20 ... 144131.htm is a start.

I also have been hearing recently, that the different fat storage patterns between men and women may make a difference in the ability to go long periods of time without eating - like with intermittent fasting. The claim is that fat stored in the typical female pattern is not released for use as easily as fat stored around the organs making it more difficult for women to fast for long periods of time. Sure, everyone is different and some women have no trouble, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Dandelion, I hope you get some answers soon. Yes, weight loss can be very frustrating. I'm 39, and even at this age, I can't eat how I did a few years ago.

Ugh. Feel like I'm having a relapse. Not the sore throat, but the tiredness/body aches. It's all meeting/work days this week. I came home today and fell asleep and didn't wake until 7. I can't believe I was that tired - or that anyone let me sleep that long! After this week I will probably only go in to work 1 day a week (hopefully it won't need to be more often) and work from home the rest of the time.

I can't even think about food or eating, NoS or otherwise. Everything is so chaotic right now. I am so looking forward to having more time (and energy!) to cook.

Oh, Dandelion, you have sacrificed your body for the needs of those pupils of yours!!! What a dedicated teacher you are, but it's sad that you gave so much of yourself that you are physically needing so much rest right now. I hope you are able to find that rest.

I guess I'm not one to talk, because I just got diagnosed with strep too! Of course, since I had read that you're only contagious for 24 hours after the antibiotics start, I figured I'd be feeling great by tomorrow (hahaha). Hmmm, still waiting for that "great" feeling to arrive!

The docs said that teachers are usually the ones that get strep as adults. :) And they said that before they knew I'm a teacher.

My first Monday of summer vacation is nearly over. It's silly that all I could think of to do is clean, clean, clean. It's even sillier that I've never figured out how to clean without totally wrecking the place first.

I'll try to pace myself eventually, but right now while I'm in the mood, I'm going to go with it.

And today was crepes, crepes, crepes :)I'm lookin' at you, Linda:)

I made crepes for breakfast and dinner today. And I bought more things for fillings for another crepe breakfast tomorrow :) I'm not even putting my crepe pan away. It'll just live on top of the stove til I get tired of making them. That may be a while :)

Lol, they're so good! But you made them homemade? You put me to shame. I definitely need to make another costco run though!

So what kind of fillings have you been making for them?
