dodgy advertising on the No S site

Post by Graham » Tue Apr 29, 2014 8:37 pm

I'm going slightly off-topic here: has anyone else been getting these strange adverts while they browse this forum that look like they're a bona fide adobe flash player download but it's actually another company trying to install software on your computer? Or banners that look like some sort of download you need to do?

The advertising on this site used to be vaguely relevant phoney diet and weight-loss products, but now some of it is getting quite deceptive, it makes me uneasy.

By using Adblock you can do away with all these adds.

That was extremely helpful Mamie. I have now installed adblock plus which is similar but gets slightly better reviews and it seems the nasty ads have gone! Such a relief. Have a good day,

Hi Graham,

You're right -- they are awful. I'll swap them out for amazon ads I can control. I guess I have a mental ad blocker because I've ceased even noticing them.

Hi Reinhard,

I didn't realise you had the power to choose what types of ads would feature, but I think the changes you propose will make being on the site a more pleasant experience. :)

Totally my fault, Sonya -- I should have looked more carefully before pulling the trigger. I really do appreciate these alerts and take total responsibility for this misfire.

Giada,

Sorry for the long delay -- this was a tougher call, because other posts by this user looked normal. And so I backed off and then promptly forgot. I think I'm going to spare it for now.

Anyway, thanks for the report, and please don't hesitate to keep them coming!
