Buying a sledgehammer in germany

Take a sledgehammer and wrap an old sweater around it. This is your "shovelglove." Every week day morning, set a timer for 14 minutes. Use the shovelglove to perform shoveling, butter churning, and wood chopping motions until the timer goes off. Stop. Rest on weekends and holidays. Baffled? Intrigued? Charmed? Discuss here.

Buying a sledgehammer in germany

Post by yaki » Wed Jul 19, 2006 7:59 pm

Hi! I just discovered this whole everydaysystems thing today, and I'd like to start implementing Shovelglove, Urban ranger and Weekend Luddite (not No-S because I'm trying to gain some weight, or at least some muscles). I live in Germany, and sledgehammers can be found for around 20 euros on ebay.de . The problem is, they all seem to be only around 75 cm long. What is the minimum length I'd need? Also, I tried out shovelglove with a spade, and it got me sweting, so I'm clearly not in very good shape^^. Still, I really like this whole idea of an everyday approach to everyday problems. So, I'd appreciate your help.

Willkommen, yaki!

My hammers are all 36 inches = 91.44 centimeters

There seem to be a humber of Vorschlaghämmer here, but no precise dimensions are given:

Judging by the weights, I would assume they must be around the same length as mine -- they'd just be too heavy for a shorter, one-handed hammer.

According to wikipedia.de, a proper Vorschlaghammer is from 60-120 cm long. I imagine anything long enough to use two handed is fine.

From german to german (sorry folks, but it will be the only post in german i promise)

Hi Yaki.

MfG

So, that's it. We will now only post in english. Other languages are for pm.

Germanherman,
