Well, here I am again. I have set up a new thread and am ready for all 2017 has to offer. I cancelled my Weight Watchers membership. I just got blood work that showed I am normal so no need for any drastic diets I can't stick to anyway. My goal this year is to stick to No-S the whole year and stay off my blood pressure meds. I took myself off of them two weeks ago because they were causing horrible side effects after all these years of use. I know I can stay off them with exercise and moderation. I'd love to lose some weight this year too....but that's not going to be my focus. Habit is my focus this year. Habit habit habit!!!

Same here, Tobiasmom! And I think you have a powerful motivation in wanting to get and stay off those meds that cause you so much trouble. You can do this!

1/1: S DAY. A bit wild in the afternoon and evening but pretty good the first half of the day.
1/2: RED. I'm not gonna lie...started out my first N day with diet head and tried eating low carb. Blech. That ended with some soda at dinner and a little ice cream. 🙈 It's gonna take me some time to get this. And I'm willing to take the time to learn....

Yeah, experimenting with what goes on the plate will come in due time.

Are you marking habitcal, BTW? Not necessary. Just curious.

1/3: GREEN! So happy with this one. I haven't committed and stuck to much of anything for one full day in quite a while!!
B: spaghetti with marinara and mushrooms (leftovers from night before)
L: cheese ravioli and salad greens with ranch
D: salmon, black beans and corn

Strange to have pasta for breakfast and lunch in a day....but that's what I had available to me today. This afternoon we went bowling and I enjoyed a black cup of coffee while the family ate fries. Feeling so great about that choice! One promise to myself kept. That's what I am really working on. Keeping promises I make to myself. My main promise is that I will not
follow any other diets for the year. Another promise is 3 plates. 3
plates of enjoyable normal food.

I'm tired this evening. The lack of sugar is noticeable...but soooo good for me!!

Hey! Well done you 👍 No sugar can be so hard, I'm struggling with no sugar but also longing to stay 'clean'! We can do this. I am committed for a year too. We will travel the road together. 😊

1/4 Wednesday: RED 🙄😬
I didn't eat enough breakfast cuz I was on the run but really hungry after my early morning swim. This led to a snack which then led to a sweet...and now I am just holding on for dear life until dinnertime to eat a full Normal plate and move forward. No more all or nothing. So I had toast and nuts with a cookie. Big whoop. I don't need to eat all day and wait for tomorrow! This is a learning process. I will figure out a way to eat a full plate of breakfast next time so that I'm not left tempted to splurge. I know that's a weakness of mine so I've gotta nip that right away.
Good news is that I swam laps again this morning!

Good for you on getting your swimming in and don't be too harsh on yourself for a red day - it took me months to figure out how to eat around my yoga class and I'm sure you'll figure out what kind of breakfast you need to sustain you through swimming (which does seem to create extra hunger, in my opinion). Hang in there and do your best today!

Well handled wrench! (no WTH)

I may be preaching reckless driving behavior, but if I get rushed, I find that I can eat more food (and slowly) in the morning in the car. I don't do it all the time, but only when rushed. I will take good hunk of cheese or a few spoons of nuts and an apple and/or bread, all foods that I can pick up. It's not ideal, but neither is wolfing nor eating too little (which is a much later skill).

Just an idea. You've got options!

1/5, Thursday, and 1/6, Friday: RED

So just one Green Day last week. Not great...but I will strive for better this week. I have a full year to really navigate this plan. My biggest struggle? The afternoons. I get snacky and I convince myself I should maybe count points instead... 😩😩😩🙈. Then the downfall continues....

Keep focusing on what you did well, and give yourself time to tackle the most difficult moment. It's probably going to take some trial and error to find what works. Also, excellent Oolala advice for really difficult moments on a recent comment on this check in thread:https://everydaysystems.com/bb/viewtopic.php?p=177287#177287

Hang in there! You can do this!

Another thing you can do when you are having a rough day is to remember how great it feels when you make the choice to stay on plan. Think about what you could drink instead of having a snack in those afternoon times--plan ahead for those times since you know they will come often--then you'll have a good strategy in place. You can build on the great choice you made and help yourself make more good choices.

Afternoons are the most difficult time for me as well!! Right when I get home from work I want to snack!! Today I plan on going into it with my eyes wide open fully aware that the urge to snack will be there! Instead of snacking I will get myself big ole glass of ice water and sit down.and read a bit of my No S book before I tackle home chores. I need some time to wind down after my day and I associate relaxing with food. Sigh.... Gotta change that. Still.have that wind down time without the food!.And, I will also think about reporting back here green. We've got this!!.😀

1/7, Saturday: S DAY
1/8, Sunday: S DAY
Both S days involved junk and overeating. 😝

1/9, Monday: So far so good....
B: two banana oat muffins (no sugar), coffee
L: small salad, two pieces of toast w butter, part of a protein shake that was gross so I tossed it
D: the plan is BBQ chicken, corn on the cob, baked beans
Exercise: swam 30 minutes this morning. Working my way up to 20 laps right now.

A friend is trying to convince me to do Whole 30. I'm not a huge meat fan so I don't think so. Either way I am sticking with my three plates and trying not to overthink it.

Well done on your swimming! It took me a while to build up to 20 laps, too, and then about half a year (of swimming about once a week) to get up to 40.

Hope you ended the day on a green note!

Consider telling your friend gently that you're pleased with your plan and will reconsider joining her on it six months from now, if you're not still pleased. Odds are she will have gone through the honeymoon and divorce by then.

After some reading on here, I realize that I'm still super obsessed with reading up on this diet and writing what I eat, weighing, et cetera. To try to alleviate this I am going to come check in monthly and only weigh myself monthly. I want to try to just focus on three plates of food and not write down what is in it or whether I was green or red or whatever. Just focus on habit.

So I will see ya'll 2/1 for my monthly check-in. I have had mostly red days this week. Too much obsessing about what I should or shouldn't be doing. Just gonna stop thinking...haha.....and eat my plates. I love this plan...and I know it's the key to healing my obsessive and very dysfunctional relationship with dieting and food in general. Even though it is super uncomfortable, I am going to detach from all my obsessive behavior as much as I can. Imagine the time I will have! ha.

Great idea! I am re-reading the book and starting a habit-cal to at least track something. I keep checking the boards and love reading everyone's journey. I just don't want to obsess about WHAT I am eating for now...
All is good. 👍👍

225 (-5)

I haven't been checking in here much. I think it's a very supportive group so I plan to come around more. But either way....I'm in this for the long haul. 👍

Monthly weigh-in: 225 (stayed the same). Total loss since 1/1: 5 pounds

I had quite a few red days this month so I will say maintaining the five pounds I lost last month is awesome. My goal this month is to keep going and try to have less red. I turn 40 this month so there will be a few celebration days for sure. 👍👍👍

Well, I had my 40th birthday two weeks ago ...and For two weeks I have been red!! Two weeks of birthday celebrations! No reason I couldn't eat green during the week and celebrate during the weekend. Oh, well. I only turn 40 once. Moving on.

I'm hoping to finish out the month strong, though! 👍

Happy Birthday! (Plan now how to celebrate 45 some way other than reds Wink )

Only six chances to be green in March left! You won't be sorry, if you hold out. Let's hope it will feel so good that you'll want to just keep going.

So I was up 3 pounds for March. There's no surprise why. I was pretty red this month with lots of celebrating and a side of maybe I should do this diet or that.

April is a new month. I am going to stick to the basics and keep going. This "diet" has NO end so however long it takes me to get this is what it's going to take.

I think I am going to try for a 21-day challenge to make the habit and journal my meals. That seems to have helped in my past attempts with No-S to keep me a little more focused. No calorie counting or anything diet-y. Just recording three plates of yummy food and probably also S days for a while.

I gently suggest you also make a list of the benefits, especially in well-being, you'll get from truly surrendering to this lifestyle. What unpleasantness in your life are you putting up with to keep your old habits? I think Reinhard had intrinsic investments that he may not have even known were motivations that helped as much as the bright lines and habitcal. Those green days then subconsciously reinforced those other motivations. We average Janes may need to make it more explicit.

That is, if I haven't said this before and you haven't done it.

It made a huge difference for me back in 2010.

You might even consider making a habitcal just for reading your motivations.

I know I said it last month, but I think tracking the meals/habit for 21 days might help me with less red. So here it goes...

Sunday:
B: bagel with peanut butter, coffee with cream and collagen
S: old-fashioned donut
L: garlic bread, Pringles
D: vegetarian chicken patty sandwich, tater tots
S: vanilla pudding
Activity: 225 stairs
(In one month I am taking my hubby up Koko Head here in Hawaii for his birthday. It is 1,000 stairs. 😩 So I am adding my stairs each day
To train so I don't die on his birthday! 😜😜)
I'd also like to get back to swimming, but the pool here on base has been broken for four months!!!

I read years ago that a person could train for a race by consistently practicing at only one-third the distance. that might be a little conservative for stairs.

Do you break it up into parts or do the whole 270 at one time?

Don't give up!

Tuesday: RED
B: breakfast tacos, coffee
L: black bean burger, chips, apple slices
S: crackers
D: Burger King veggie burger, fries, and a Coke on the way to a long homeschool meeting 🙈
Activity: 315 steps

Wednesday: GREEN
B: coffee, mini muffins
L: pb and honey sandwich, chips
D: fajitas
No stairs today. Gotta let my knee rest a bit. But will add 90 tomorrow to keep my pace up.

Oolala: I do the stairs all at once. I just go up and down until I reach the day's goal. I hope if I keep adding about 45 stairs a day I will make it to 1,000 by June 10!

You'll be doing 27 flights. Dang! You are getting conDItioned, girl! They say stair climbing is one of the fastest ways to get there. You have a lot of patience to keep going up and down. BTW, many building codes in commercial buildings say there is a limit to the number of stairs before a landing, meaning they recognize that most people need some kind of break. I guess for you that's going down.

This is making me think I should be willing to go out to the block that leads to my house- it's an incline- and just walk up and down it multiple times. Not quite as convenient as being inside the house- I'd have to actually get dressed for public viewing- but pretty close, if I'm willing to just do the same street repeatedly.

BTW, when I looked up how many steps are in an average flight, it mentioned that the longest stairway in the world is over 11,000 steps. http://www.odditycentral.com/travel/running-up-11674-steps-in-the-worlds-longest-single-staircase-race.html

Good work on doing steps, I'm sure you'll be okay. That would kill my knee at this point. One of our favorite places to hike when dating was a place called 500 steps at Gov. Dick park in the South mountains near Mt. Gretna, Pa. Of course we were still teenagers.

A day of rest can help the muscles repair and grow. Then you feel stronger!
