Finally getting some green under my belt - feels good! Making "bright lines" around my 3 meals a day is working...

19th: a few bites of meat that were not on my plate!
20th: a spoonful of peanut butter as I was cleaning up the dinner dishes. Argh!

Ready to Go! Giving myself a little leniency, if I'm at a meal and need a little more food it's ok.

Hi! I Just discovered the No-S diet and feel this is the right approach towards healthy eating for me. I started on june1st and so far it's been great although the no snaking is something i've never done and at night i'm finding it dificult.

I'll join the challenge so i can keep acountable and so i can have other people to talk about the No-S diet.

14th snack after dinner (not large, but just plain 'forgot' and oops after the swallow--but why was that an excuse for the 2nd swallow?)
15th lemon cake with lunch (I must practice my 'no thank you' skills--at least it really WAS a treat and enjoyed.)
19th & 20th anniversary trip (will not be an idiot but reserve notion that an "S" might be involved on each of those days)
22nd oh dear, lemon cake again (and still no 'no thank you' skills because this is really a seriously good cake! I may have to change my Thursday lunch plans...away from the lemon cake that seems to keep appearing until I'm more 'in habit')
27th mother's birthday (forgot to mark on calendar setup) -- I really MUST avoid that situation of the past two weeks where there was lemon cake offered at lunch on Thursday
28th snacked
29th oh dear, Thursday--no lemon cake, but there was Roger with a freshly baked chocolate cream pie...can't he just leave his pastry chef skills at home...and didn't I go to his retirement party a couple of months ago? What's up with this Thursday thing with him being there bearing baked goods? Worked late, by the time I got home over-hungry and had seconds. (Normally there wouldn't be enough for seconds, but DH also had a bit of a day and picked up Chinese) Two S's in one day *sigh* Oh well, tomorrow is another day.

Welcome, Marina! Snacking in the evening is a challenge for many people when they first start (I used to snack a lot then too). I find a cup of hot tea or some other kind of drink helps me avoid the munchies (or at least takes the edge off)--that really helped me when I was transitioning. I hope you have a great first month!

CAn someone PLEASE occasionally bump the thread up when you update? Tx

Sorry it's not working for you. I wonder if it's device related (are you posting from a computer, or trying to post from a phone or tablet?)

On the computer, I always click "quote" on someone's post who has a calendar set up. Then I erase the coding at the beginning and ending of their post (the parts that have the brackets and say "quote =" etc... Then I can just modify it as needed and type anything I want and click submit, without having to type out a whole calendar myself.

I would like to join in too! I'm going to track my success starting from Monday. Hope this works...

   01 02 :| :|
:| 06 07 08 09 :| :|
12 13 14 15 16 :| :|
19 20 21 22 23 :| :|
26 27 28 29 30 :| :|

Not a great start to my nos tracking career... I completely forgot a dinner I had on Monday night that had been scheduled for months. It's was with a group of girls I only see a couple of times a year, if that, and we all have babies now. We go out so few times a year and see each other so little (we've all moved to different parts of the state) that when I see them I want to relax and be free to eat and drink whatever I want. It was a great night and in the end the failure really only amounted to eating a dessert.

Tuesday morning a lady had made some brownies for playgroup and personally offered me the plate and she was really sweet and started telling me about the recipe and blah blah blah. Long story short, I felt socially conditioned to accept one :( Oh well, one to watch out for.

In good news though, in the past both of these things would have made me write the whole day off and go nuts. But this time, I nos'd all day Monday and only clocked off when I got to the girls dinner. On Tuesday, I ate the brownie at playgroup but then had a salad for lunch and nos'd for the rest of the day. That is huge psychological progress for me!

No matter what I do to the spacing on line 2, it still comes out off, but it's done.
Yes, the program doesn't remember spacing. The only way to make it line up is to use "05" instead of just "5" etc...
oolala53 wrote:This is trying the suggestion above:

19 20 21 22 23 Neutral Neutral
26 27 28 29 30 Neutral Neutral

Hexed.
Actually, what you did here was to copy a calendar right from someone's post. That won't copy the formatting, which is why you end up with the words "arrow" and "neutral" instead of the emoticons. What you need to do is actually hit the "quote" button. Then do your select and copy from the material that has been quoted.

Or, hit the quote button but remove the quote brackets and everything the person wrote except for their calendar (when you remove the quote bracket formatting, it will no longer look like you are quoting someone.

Oolala, here is what it looks like if I simply copy and paste your calendar right from your post:

Arrow Arrow Arrow Mr. Green Embarassed Smile Smile
5 6 7 8 9 Smile Smile
12 13 14 15 16 Smile Smile
19 20 21 22 23 Smile Smile
26 27 28 29 30

And here is what it looks like if I "quote" you, but before I remove the quote bracket formatting:

12 13 14 15 16 :) :)
19 20 21 22 23 :) :)
26 27 28 29 30

...
And here is what it looks like if I "quote" you, after I remove the quote bracket formatting (I can actually see colon arrow colon, instead of just the word arrow when I'm composing--the colons are necessary parts of the formatting for this emoticon):

     :) :)
5 6 7 8 9 :) :)
12 13 14 15 16 :) :)
19 20 21 22 23 :) :)
26 27 28 29 30

One more time--here is your calendar with the "05" used in that second line to make it line up a bit better:

     :) :)
05 06 07 08 09 :) :)
12 13 14 15 16 :) :)
19 20 21 22 23 :) :)

I'm so glad! Focus mainly on N days for awhile, they usually do improve at least somewhat (and sometimes even if they don't, good strong N days are enough to counter-act them)

(These are no-sugar days; I've found added sugar makes me feel so awful that I need to take myself off it completely - thus no respite days. You'd think knowing I'm going to feel awful would be enough, but no.) (okay, one respite day; kept it to one small treat though)

How's everyone doing? We're about halfway through--keep going strong (and it's not too late to end strong even if the first part of the month was off).

Red today after two Gold Medal months! Oh well. Just an off day. Tomorrow is another day.

Finish strong everyone!

Merry,

You are still in the running for a Silver. The best I can hope for is bronze this month (having just read that page in the book, I now know what you are talking about  )

Aw, thanks!

Probably not--I have a several-day event coming up that will take more than two NWS days, and because it's unique, I'm probably going to enjoy some really good food...I'm thinking one more red day will be coming my way! BUT...we'll see! You never know!

Hang in there, Bronze is still nothing to sneeze at and is better than just letting the month go! (I laugh at the little mind games I play with myself to keep me going sometimes!) Anyway...green today! Barely! This is an unusual week for me, I haven't been tripped up by "regular" days in awhile.

Thanks, oolala and Merry!

Right now i'm focusing on establishing the basic No-S routine. I've given up on losing weight for now. Some of my plates are pilled with food and that's ok; i plan to address this further down the road.

I will be getting the potassium award (least stable metal) for June, what with traveling and end-of-the-school year stuff, but I've had some very moderate days even among those, so I feel pretty thankful to the discipline of the structure. It's actually been an advantage to be on the road with a bit of a tight time frame to get places with a person who needs to have food available because we had mostly good, unjunky stuff, and we've ended up sometimes shining on buying meals out for the sake of expediency. I've had some wonderful avocado and hummus based meals with plenty of veggies for scoops or as the underling to dressings. However, my friend doesn't set much store by sitting and eating meals in a leisurely manner. Sigh. It totally works for her. I can't foist my habits on others, just as I don't want them to foist theirs on me. Even if my habits are responsible for keeping about 90% of the cultures who use it slim and relatively healthy. (BTW, I will probably cut-and-paste some or all of this to my thread.)

My baby got her fifth ear infection for the year and with the doctors and specialist visits and the no sleep and the screaming, I had about a week and a half wiped out. I don't even know if they were all fails or not? I do know my habits weren't old enough/ingrained enough to be truly automatic and I just stopped caring because I was trying to survive. So I'd assume that most days there would have been infractions? But I just didn't care.

The other issue was the microwave died at roughly the same time, so some of the diet defaults I might have been otherwise able to fall back on (like microwaving my oatmeal - a breakfast that can sustain me for 5 or 6 hours) were not available. And its harder to cook oats on the stove holding a crying baby while a toddler crawls up your leg. So I had crappier breakfasts or no breakfast at all which led to predictable results...

And then last week, I did care. So I got back on the horse and had a perfect week! Ate healthily and followed the rules. And the weekend felt great!!

I realise I can't fall off the wagon every time life throws a problem at me. Which is why I need to work now to make the habits true habits - so I don't need to think about it and use the automation to get me through the tough times...?

True, but sometimes life is--and just because this is how you responded this time, doesn't mean you'll respond that way every time. I do think it gets easier as time goes on to come up with workable alternate defaults though. You could think of some ahead of time, which might help the next time a crisis comes along. But I also think you responded well--crisis is over, and you got back to No-S--you didn't just continue the crisis mode eating. Kudos to you!

I'm having a horible week... My father has 6 siblings. 2 were already diagnosed with paranoid personality disorder and 1 with schizophrenia. Well, in the last couple of days one of my aunts started to present hallucinations and delirious thoughts. I'm really sad and worried.... which led me to eat like there was no tomorrow and have disabling migraines.

Marina, hard news to hear. I'm sorry! I hope your father is okay. Please have faith that that kind of pairing of bad news and eating can be split apart and become the exception, not the default. I'll write you about it separately.

Thank you, oolala. My fear is that it will happen to my father. Dealing with bad news and an eating disorder is hard, but with time i'm sure i'm going to find a way.
