Denver 1973 Sunday check ins!

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Denver 1973 Sunday check ins!

Post by Denver1973 » Mon Mar 20, 2017 2:02 am

Just getting started. I will try for success and weigh myself on Sundays. I feel this will help keep me accountable.
3 meals a day focusing on lower carbs for first two meals and totally cutting out beer and wine.
This is NOT always...still gotta have Popeye's Chicken at lunch some days!

Welcome & gl! I always weigh on Friday for best case scenario but if Sunday works for you, go for it!

My daughter loves Popeyes! ;)

One week down....

Post by Denver1973 » Mon Mar 27, 2017 10:49 pm

Glad I am "on program" again...tweaked a lot after a day but that's me! After the unexpected passing of my father just about two weeks ago it changed my outlook on life. Moderation is the key, I am usually an all or nothing type person and that is the reason why I want to try this lifestyle. Hoping for a very good outcome!
Here's to moderation!

Thank you for the kind welcome notes!&#9829;

Sorry for your loss. Welcome to NoS. Let your father's memory somehow be a positive trigger when NoS is challenging you. Good luck.

Quite a week...two birthdays celebrations;including Chinese food, blueberry pie and wine! Did have one major fail day...where I broke every S rule X 2...which happened to be yesterday. (Saturday) Feeling terribly guilty.... Trying to look forward to Special days (like Easter)where I want to feel and look good for; to keep me on track.

Thanks again for all your kind words, thoughts and prayers!

Hmmm seems to be a hick-up, but that's okay. Not giving up. Looking at not going back for seconds as another biggie in my obstacles at the moment.

What a week, quite honestly I did not even want to post. ...I have been "off the hook" with my eating and drinking 3 days straight. RE-grouping and focusing on being healthy again. This week plenty of water.

You didn't break any S rules last Sunday. It's common for people to have a lot of 'em at first and even at various times.

The eating habit is very strong, as is the knee-jerk resistance to reining it in. Perhaps see if there is ONE meal gap you can start with. You may eat a lot at other times of the day, but get that one down and then whittle away at the others.

Do write down what your main motivation is (preferably NOT weight loss alone, as that it typically NOT very successful in the long run) and read it every day, calmly and with enough attention to let it sink in. Remind yourself what about this plan attracts you and how much you value that.

Plenty of people who eventually had things smooth out had rocky times. Just keep reminding yourself what the alternatives are, not in a panicked way, but rationally.

You can do this!

Oolala53, Thank you for the encouraging words...I believe this plan can withstand the test of time....you are living proof and an inspiration to me!
I like your motto about 3 plates a day...so simple but yet something that many, many people have made so complicated with all of the carb, macro, gluten mumbo jumbo.
Hope you have a good week! :D

Nothing else to do but chalk it up to part of the learning curve and hope it makes your resolve stronger- with firmness but without panic.

Oooo, banish that thought! Let's assume it's "extinction burst"...

"The burst is a temporary increase in a behavior that usually precedes a reward, a plea from the recesses of your psyche as soon as the conditioned response is no longer yielding results."

I don't think it will necessarily precede easy S days. I think it's more of a way of letting N days stay relatively easy. But it COULD precede a dying down of S day urges, soon, too.

Time will tell.

Holding my own...fell off the grid during the holiday. :)
Keep telling myself not to do anything drastic or fun-draining. Biggest goal at the end of the day is to cut out the binge eating and raiding the refrigerator while sleep walking. If I conquer these... let the chips fall where they may!
See y'all next Sunday!

I think those are two very worthy bright lines. Reducing the bingeing was my big goal in the beginning. I didn't even disallow it on S days! I was so grateful for N day compliance. The bar is set a little higher now...

See you.
