SpiritSong's check in

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

SpiritSong's check in

Post by SpiritSong » Tue Sep 19, 2017 8:12 pm

Re-starting No S again. My regular mods still apply. Friday and Sunday S-Days, and I am allowed a small snack between breakfast and lunch, if needed (because there is an eight hour distance between the two and I have trouble eating much breakfast at 5 am).

Started on 9/15/17. S-Day. Could have had a donut with work breakfast, but realized that being back on No S meant only having the sweet if it was worth it. The supermarket donut wasn't.

9/16/17 - First N-Day. Went well. Actually made myself lunch (I don't generally cook) with a Blue Apron kit.

9/17/17 - S-Day. Had chocolate cake for dad's birthday and quality sweets with dinner.

9/18/17 - N-Day - No problems. Did not have morning snack. Slightly cheated as we ate out and I had chips and salsa prior to dinner, but then I didn't eat much of my dinner, so the chips would have fit on my plate.

9/19/17- N-Day - Slight cheat again as the morning snack included a small piece of apple with chocolate on it. I probably wouldn't have had a snack at all, but my boss received one of those fruit bouquets.

I know what you're thinking. This chick is not going to lose any weight and then will blame No S! No, I am keeping this check in so I will have a record that can be used against me in No S court if I try such nonsense. 8)

Ha! Weight loss schmeight loss. You will know when to be more precise.

I was curious to know why you wouldn't start meditations right away. Do they have some kind of focus? It's not just general stuff? But of course it's your call.

They are weight loss related meditations (Gabriel Method). I am easily overwhelmed, so if I want to make this a lifetime habit, I need to go slooooooooooow.

9/20/17 - Only cheat was a mocha from my boss, but I was up late attending a Malala lecture, so the caffeine was needed.

9/21/17 - I was hungry a couple of hours before lunch and had my allowed morning snack. Normally, I may have been able to ignore it, but I am working on a big project at work that I need my concentration for and the hunger was distracting me.

9/22/17 - S-Day! Yay!

Beginning this process again is always interesting because of the "Oh, this is when I would have eaten something" moments on N-Days.

9/23/17 - Success.

9/24/17 - S-Day!

9/25/17 - I was just about to take the cookie my boss was offering when I remember, "Wait! I can't!" Luckily I had not touched the cookie yet so it was not rude to withdraw my hand. :) No S is definitely in my head, so that part is working.

One member long ago said when she was offered some food at work one day, she absentmindedly said, "No, thanks, it's Tuesday." It made sense in her mind, but probably sounded pretty weird.

I wonder what it would be like to live in a culture where no one ever tried to get you to eat except at meal times or special events?

9/26/17 - Success. Was offered a piece of no-flour chocolate cake (and usually I am the first in line for treats at the office), but I told her no, thank you, I'm not allowed sweets during the week.

Yes, I'm that person who acts like Reinhard is following me around, slapping food out of my hand, when I should be taking ownership. I'll work on that.

I'll go out on a limb and say Reinhard would NEVER slap food out of anyone's hand. So you ARE doing it yourself. Bravo! (I doubt he even talks about No S or overeating to anyone but us.)

Now you'll have to follow through on not eating sweets at work. Eventually, they'll likely stop offering, but if you cave after a declaration, you're fair game!

9/27/17 - I had a piece of chicken from my boss for dinner and needed something to go with it on my plate. I thought about having a fruit cup, but then opted for goldfish crackers instead. But, hey, I thought about having fruit! :D

I just realized I started my HabitCal on September 1st when I started No S on September 15th. It took only two weeks for me to notice.

LOL! At least it's easy to fix--copy all the entries onto the right dates and then put "blank" squares over the first 2 weeks.

9/28/17 - Had to take a fail. My husband brought me a Boston Market dinner, and the salad that came with it was too big to fit on my plate. If I thought it was still a reasonable amount of food, I would have done a virtual plate write-off, but I definitely ate more than I needed to. Oh, well, we don't have Boston Market that often, and at least I was too full to continue the fail with a sweet for dessert. And look, I ate a salad!

9/29/17 - S-Day! Had a sweet with my coffee for first breakfast. :D Second breakfast will be at work, as Friday is "Breakfast Day."

Merry seems to always know what to do about site stuff!

I'm such a cheapskate that I regard nearly any takeout meal as two servings, except for the salad. I'm also usually thinking how good and easy it will be for lunch the next day.

I don't see Boston Markets around anymore. Which state do you live in?

I'm in New York State. The Boston Market locator shows two locations in my area, the closest being 24 minutes away (which is why we don't get it that often).

Yes, maybe next time we have it, I will pack up half of it to have the next day (except for the salad since then I would have to pick out the croutons!). Good idea. It was my first encounter with the situation since I re-started No S, so my brain wasn't pre-wired to consider other solutions.

9/30/17 - Had to take another fail. I didn't eat enough for lunch and was hungry by 4:00, just as my husband went to take a nap. Got too hangry to wait for dinner.

I was going to weigh in for the first of the month tomorrow, but after two fails, I hope I didn't gain. Just kidding. It is just a data point, not the end of the world.

Had my first of the month weigh-in this morning, and I am down! Yay! I know the results are not scientifically significant since I don't weigh myself over a few days and average it or anything, but down is down. 8)

One half month on No S, and I am down 2.25 pounds. If the downward trend continues, perhaps I can begin November in Onederland!

Okay, party over for another month. Time to enjoy my S-Day and then get back on habit tomorrow.

10/1/17 - S-Day

SS, don't forget that you can have a beverage for those witching afternoon hours. Are you not a coffee drinker? Decaf, sometimes with a tablespoon of cocoa, and some creamer of choice got me through many a meal gap without it leading to having more and more, which often happens with chewing.

Any compelling activities you could plan to do to divert your attention from the hunger? Once I'm home, it's more likely to be something online, but occasionally doing something like washing my feet and applying lotion leads to my organizing bathroom supplies or something else unrelated that gets my attention off eating. But online is more common... otherwise, my house would be a lot more organized!

10/2/17 - Had lemonade with dinner, but not taking a fail. I was visiting my husband in the hospital, ordered unsweetened ice tea, and somehow ended up with lemonade. With nothing else to drink, and the fact that it was about 1/2 cup in size, I drank it guilt free.

Also managed to have a little wine when I got home without an accompanying snack.

10/3/17 - Success.

I was thinking about why I've dropped No S before, and mostly I think it was because having whatever you want whenever you want is fun. Of course, as adults, it is up to us to realize there are consequences for such behavior. And ruining the true pleasure of food is one of those consequences. (Obviously, excess weight is another.)

Exactly. At some point, if the freedom becomes less fun in the face of the costs than the pleasure it supplies, the tide can turn. People give up because it doesn't seem worth the trade or they resent it and don't feel they should have to or whatever. That's their call.

And honestly, if it meant counting calories forever, or eating a narrow choice of food, or having to stick to very small amounts, it wouldn't be worth it to me, either, unless I had a very serious condition that could be reversed by such measures.

Hope my bluff doesn't get called...

10/4/17 - Success
10/5/17 - Success. I was home with sick dog, but still didn't snack!
10/6/17 - S-Day. Pretty calm one. Enjoyed my Coke with the lunch my boss bought me.

I calculated that if I lose a half pound per week, I could be at goal weight on January 1, 2020. So when I think about cheating, I think about that date and how I want to move towards my goal instead.

Yes, I know real life weight loss doesn't actually work like that (week after week, loss after loss, for over two years straight), but at this early stage, it is the shining star to guide my path.

10/7/17 - Fail. Was hanging out on the couch watching TV and needed a snack. And since I was having a snack, went ahead and had a Pepsi.

Will have to work on better habits on Saturdays. Yes, I know that it why Saturday was supposed to be an S-Day, but I don't want to give up my Friday S-Day.

10/8/7 - S-Day!

Hi Spirit, are your s-days split? That would be really hard for me. I'm sure I'd get mixed up on what day it is. I can sympathize with the chips-on-the-couch scenario though. Evening snacks are my nemesis. Does that then make no-s my super power? Best of luck to you tonight.

Hmm, what do you think now about the concept of "needing" a snack watching TV on the couch. Does this come up on weekday N days?

It's fascinating how paired/connected things can be. From snack food to snack drink. Aren't we lucky how easy Big Food has made it?

But good job earlier having wine without its usual pairing of a snack.

All things considered, I think you're doing well. You've realized some important things and are taking mental and physical steps that will help.

Enjoy your Sunday!

I take Friday as an S-Day because we have Breakfast Day at work, and I don't want to miss that every week. Plus then I can do what I want on Friday night to celebrate the end of the week.

I run into trouble on Saturdays because meal times aren't as set as weekdays (I can eat an early lunch, and then dinner might be late depending on when my husband gets home) and I spend more time on the couch.

I go to bed so early that evening snacks during the week aren't a problem. Try sleeping like an older person, Gingerpie! Early to bed and early to rise!!

Yeah, the unstructured time is why the S days are on the weekends. But it's still workable, if Fridays are worth it to you.

Could you make the early lunch a brunch (no breakfast) and have a routine break/snack in the afternoon, then dinner whenever?

Couch time is definitely part of a fair number of my Saturdays.

Thanks, Gingerpie! I am trying to stay focused so this doesn't end up being my "honeymoon period." 8)

10/12/17 - Success. I did load my plate a bit for lunch as my employer provided pizza, garlic knots, and salad, but everyone else's plate was similar to mine since we were all taking it to another room (so no seconds). But I drank water instead of the soda and skipped the cookies.

10/13/17 - S-Day. I am currently enjoying Breakfast Day at work with half a peanut donut, a small oatmeal cookie, grapes, and a couple of strawberries. Later, I am looking forward to a Crown and Pepsi. (At home, I mean. I don't (generally) drink at work.) :D

We had a breakfast here a few days ago. I wasn't too sure going into it but it worked out well as some people brought savory items. Little social events like that can be a great treat.

NOOOO, don't do it! I mean, food at the office more often.

We should start a national movement of anti-office birthday cake. There's got to be SOME other way to celebrate.

There are about 28 people on my floor, so if everyone gets a birthday cake, that is more than two per month! Plus, I think half of them have birthdays in December, so that month was always pretty sickening between the cake and holiday goodies.

10/14/17 - Success! I ate a large lunch just to make sure I wouldn't snack and have another Saturday failure.

10/15/17 - S-Day.

10/16/17 - S-Event Day. Celebrating Bosses Day at work with food. Yes, coming off the heels of our food at work discussion, this probably isn't the best way to celebrate. At least I'm bringing chips and salsa and not sweets. 8)

LOL, okay, but look how people look forward to Friday brekkie. I was thinking that sitting down for tea (really tea, not afternoon tea with biscuits) together could substitute for cake in my office. ??

If that floats your boat , do it. We were talking about that constant barrage of food. Plus, most people want to keep the work week Vanilla. I think.

10/17/17 - Success. I was nervous that dinner wouldn't be enough. Since I am still using large plates, I had plenty of room for a small bunch of grapes. And then I ended up being too full to finish the grapes anyway!

I did a "cheater" weigh in this morning (I weigh once a month officially) and I am up. Oh, well. Probably wasn't a good idea to weigh after two S-Days, an N-Day when I overate, and an S-Event. If I am still up on November 1st, I will add one thing to my efforts, which I think will be the Jon Gabriel evening affirmation recording. I am re-reading his book as a prelude.

My first goal is Onederland, and my morning research shows I last visited that mystical land briefly two years ago. This time I plan to move there permanently.

10/19/17 - Ongoing. My husband brought me breakfast (biscuit sandwich and hash browns) and I found that I made it through my morning 35 minute dog walk much better. Perhaps I need to start eating protein in the morning!

10/19/17 - Success! Probably ate a bit too much at lunch, but I am not in the Phase where one worries about such things. :D

10/20/17 - S-Day! Had some chocolate sweets with my coffee, breakfast pizza at work, and a chocolate bar snack this morning. Ha, a bit much, but I shouldn't be hungry for much lunch today. Maybe a piece of cold pizza if there's any left.

Sorry to hear that you are not enjoying your job. I find it very hard to stay strong around food when I feel stressed, well done to you for resisting temptation. Hope things improve for you soon.

Thank you everyone for the job sympathy. I actually have a very good job and I am grateful; it's just that some days EVERY SINGLE THING is annoying and I hate everything about it.

I thought I might break and snack when I got home because of course the commute with the IDIOTS on the road didn't HELP my MOOD. (Okay. Stop yelling. You were in a bad mood. We get it.) But I was able to wait until dinner arrived (we order in more than we should -- I blame the hubby) and enjoyed my chicken finger salad with one beer. Sure, not a "clean eating" kind of dinner, but success nonetheless!

10/24/17 - Ongoing. I took the stairs from the first floor to the eighth floor after a meeting due to the wait for the elevators. I made sure someone knew to check the stairwell if I went missing.

10/25/17 - Resisted homemade cookies in the work kitchen, and had salad instead of chips with my sandwich at my work lunch. Enjoyed some hot cider with lunch instead of water, so I did have a treat. :)

10/25/17 - Success
10/26/17 - Success
10/27/17 - S-Day!

I have a feeling I am not going to make goal on Nov. 1st, so I will be adding the evening Jon Gabriel audio program. My problem is probably large portions and alcohol at dinner, but we'll wait to tackle that another month. Might as well deal with psychology early on and then maybe the portions will take care of themselves!

I was also thinking of lengthening my morning walks with the dog, but that can definitely wait until the sun comes up earlier. I can always add a mile with Leslie Sansone in the morning before my shower.

When I achieve success tomorrow, it will be my first 21 days of success since I re-started. :D

Weigh in on Wednesday. Instead of adding walking, I believe my "fitness" focus in November will be addressing my plantar faciitis.

Umm, oh yes you will!! How in the world have you been walking? I spend literally hours upon hours trying on shoes to find those that have enough support and I buy the expensive insoles to put im my running shoes. Sometimes, I add less expensive insoles to my work shoes because I'm on my feet a lot. Oh, and sadly, the actual attractiveness of the shoe is no longer a consideration. best of luck to you.

I hope the 21-day club will bring a return to your 2010-11 successes. You deserve to have some respite from the tug-of-war, as do we all who are are sliding some in the mud.

Mine just started up this summer (after adopting a new dog who must be walked every morning -- my last one could play in the yard off leash), so it isn't too bad yet. Unfortunately, I did try the "ignore it and hope it goes away" treatment, which doesn't work. Kind of like the "ignore it and hope the fat goes away" diet!

I bought some compression socks which really seemed to help over the weekend, so we'll see how they do at work.

Thank you for the good wishes, Larkspur and Oolala! I was in a bad mood and almost had a red last night, but in the end remembered that it wasn't really worth it. I think the psychology of No S is sinking in better this time.

10/30/17 - Success. Ignored brownies and corn muffins in the work pantry.

10/31/17 - Holiday? LOL. We'll see if there is anything I can't say no to. The library at work is having cider and donuts, but they don't really sound all that appealing. Plus I have weigh in tomorrow. No candy at home to have to resist.

10/31/17 - Success. Didn't have any treats.

Had my weigh in this morning and it looks like my weight has stayed pretty steady all summer. So the morning walks since June, and No S since mid-September have had no effect so far. Argh.

So, I'll have to look at it as setting the foundation and see what else I can do. I know I said I was going to start listening to my Jon Gabriel audio, but I think the last time I moved the scale, water was the trick. So I am going to work on upping my water intake in November. And maybe weigh in once a week rather than once a month.

I will also be working on my plantar faciitis by rolling and icing my feet. I ordered a pair of Kuru shoes to walk in, and some heel supports for my other shoes.

So that's my November plan. Here's hoping for some visible results!

11/1/17 - Success. And I actually made dinner (thanks to Blue Apron) so I had a vegetable (kale slaw). :D

11/2/17 - Was having a bad morning and thought about having chocolate, but Mature Me told me to be a grown up and stick with the plan.

My new shoes are supposed to arrive today! Can't wait to try them out on my dog walk tomorrow morning.

Well done "Mature You". I do a healthy hot cocoa when I'm craving chocolate and it usually works 1/2 water, 1/2 almond milk, tbsp raw cacao powder. No, definitely not the same as chocolate, but sometimes works :)

Piyare - I wasn't really craving chocolate. It was more the feeling that I deserved a "pity snack." I didn't.

11/2/17 - Green
11/3/17 - S-Day! Enjoying office breakfast as I type.

Last night, I ate the rest of my kale slaw with the addition of some turkey, Swiss cheese, croutons, and honey mustard dressing. It didn't look like much but it was plenty for dinner. After a month and a half on No S, I have realized I can eat a lot less in the evening, especially since I go to bed so early.

I have also been turning down the chips that come with my sandwich at the office cafeteria. The sandwiches they make are plenty big enough for lunch without the addition of chips or even the carrot sticks they offer. And to think sometimes I would follow it all up with a candy bar.

11/4/17 - Success!
11/5/17 - S-Day

Yesterday, I had a filling breakfast, so I had no problem eating a late lunch (I made it and it took over an hour). And since the lunch was so filling (included lentils), I had no problem waiting until dinner.

And after announcing that I was going to weekly weigh-ins, Amazon had a scale on sale that sends the info to an app on your phone for tracking, so I am going to start daily weigh-ins tomorrow (the scale arrives today). Since my number doesn't seem to be moving at all, I may need that extra feedback to keep portion control in mind.

Finished up the lentil leftovers for dinner last night. Got gas again. :(

11/6/17 - Success

Had my first weigh in on my new scale yesterday morning. It motivated me to keep up with my water program, so that's a plus.

My new shoes and heel seats seem to be helping with my plantar faciitis, so I am super happy about that.

Otherwise, hoping for some progress on the scale soon.

I think I have figured out why I had success before and not now. I checked my HabitCal and back in 2010-2011 when I had my No S success, I was working out at home, rather consistently. The dog walks just aren't enough to kick my system into gear.

Looks like I need to clean up my exercise room and figure out a weekly workout schedule. Which is fine, except I will still have to do the 30 minute dog walk. This is really going to cut into my morning computer time! :P

11/7/17 - Success

With all this IF talk, I never really considered it for myself. But as others have pointed out, with No S, we are practically IFing already, so why not go the extra step? I am generally not hungry when I get up in the morning, so holding off on breakfast shouldn't be much of a problem. Last night, I was done eating by 6:30, so I can eat breakfast between 8:30 (for 14 hours) and 10:30 (16 hours) and be an IFer!

I need to clean up the exercise room, so the workouts won't start until Sunday, but together, perhaps exercise and IF will be the one-two punch that knocks my number down the scale!

11/8/17 - Success

I fasted for 15 hours and it wasn't bad at all. I think it does help put an extra spotlight on what I am eating. When it was time to think of what to have for dinner, I had to keep in mind that simple carbs wouldn't hold me for 14-16 hours and I chose chicken chili for the protein and fiber.

11/9/17 - Fail

I made a Blue Apron meal that included grilled cheese and apple sandwiches and salad. While my husband was willing to try the sandwich, I knew he wouldn't want the salad because of what it contained, so I finished it. And that meant seconds. I don't feel guilty at all because I it was fruit and vegetables of which I don't eat enough.

I made it 16 hours without eating. I felt hungry about a half hour before my breakfast, and because all I eat is a 200 calorie Kind bar, I was plenty hungry for lunch. I think 16/8 is going to work out great for me, as long as I watch out for mood swings at work. :D  :D

It’s not too hard, is it, to go 16 hours if you are used to NoS. I’m definitely noticing some lost inches, although the scale is very slow to move. I remind myself that the longer overnight fasts are thought to be better for health. So even people who are trim do it for health reasons. It seems to be another step toward enjoying food more while thinking about it less, which is another plus. How’s that exercise room looking?

The exercise room project was originally scheduled for tomorrow, but since I started 16/8 this week, I think I will put it off until my vacation around Thanksgiving. :D

I have Clean Clothes Mountain in my bedroom I can deal with instead. Plus my 8 Hour Diet book is supposed to arrive today so I'll be reading that tomorrow.

11/11/17 - Made it 16 hours before eating, even on a Saturday. I can't say that I was super hungry. More that I was looking forward to eating.

No, I haven't tackled Clean Clothes Mountain, but I did read the whole 8 Hour Diet book. :D

11/12/17 - S-Day
11/13/17 - Just over an hour before I can eat something for breakfast. Feeling fine.

Weight was a bit higher this morning than on Friday, but it was to be expected after two S-Days, high sodium eating, and not keeping to my water schedule. Still, it was two pounds lower than last Monday's weigh in. :D

11/13/17 - Success

I ate a lunch that pleased my taste buds but not my digestive system. I was wondering what to have for dinner, and remembered that I fast now and a skipped meal really wouldn't hurt me. So I am having peppermint tea, which feels really nice in my tummy.

The good part is I get to have breakfast tomorrow, and I will probably be hungry for it. (I keep track of the 16 hour fast, but don't worry about the eating window. So I can have breakfast, lunch, and dinner tomorrow and not worry.)

I think I was out of sorts from the 1:30 pm to 5:30 am fast, which by the time I ate lunch ended up being almost 24 hours with nothing to eat but a small breakfast sandwich and small muffin. Live and learn. At least I got to see a two pound drop on the scale.

I am going to add strength training in December to make sure I lose fat and not muscle. Yes, Larkspur, that means cleaning the exercise room!

11/19/17 - S-Day

Since I am able to have an early lunch on Saturday, I usually end up having only two meals (early lunch, early dinner). I think I under-ate yesterday because I woke up hungry this morning. So since it is an S-Day anyway, I broke my fast early. It was still about 14 hours.

11/20/17 - Fail.

Got pissed off at work (mad, not drunk) and it turned the whole day. When I got home, I wanted a mixed drink with soda and had one. And then some chocolate and peanut butter.

Not a good week to fail since I will be having my two NWS-Days for the month on Wednesday and Thursday, but I can't plan when people are going to be extra special stupid at work. I will have to work harder at staying hydrated and hope not to gain this week.

11/21/17 - Success

Although I had another dream that I failed.

11/22/17 - S-Day (office party)
11/23/17 - S-Day (Thanksgiving)

Goal is not to gain and then shoot for Onederland once this holiday has passed. I am on vacation next week, so it is time to clean up the workout room to prepare for my new December exercise habit. It will be 3.5 weeks since I started IF, so I think it will be a good time to start some strength training to protect/build muscle.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I will be enjoying my S-Day with snacks during football, but since hubby and I are on our own today, we'll be having simple turkey tacos for dinner. So no overstuffing on 10 holiday dishes plus pie. 8)

I realized this morning that since I weigh in on the "daily" scale only on work days, I won't be weighing in for 11 days (I'm on vacation), except for my December 1st weigh in on the other scale. Here's to seeing Onederland and not some nasty surprise! :D

11/24/17 - S-Day (regular Friday S-Day)
11/25/17 - Fail
11/26/17 - S-Day

After three S-Days in a row, I was super hungry Saturday morning. Not healthy hungry, but thinking of binging hungry. So I figured IF was the last thing I needed and ate breakfast early, and then ended up having a couple of snacks.

I'll be home on vacation this week but will do my best to get back on schedule with my eating as if I were at work. 10:30 breakfast, 1:00 lunch, and 6:00 dinner.

The end of November/beginning of December was one big fail. No S was so easy this time around, and the fasting was proving pretty easy. Then Thanksgiving arrived and I had too many sugar indulgences (not even binges), and I think it threw my body for a loop. "Hey, are we back on sugar now?" So the Monday after five days that included four S-Days and one fail, I felt too famished to fast, and I was home all week on vacation and indulged in snacks.

So we begin again. Old Ways = Old Weight.

Yesterday was green until dinner was late and I ended up snacking afterwards. I did manage to fast until 10:30 am both yesterday and today.

12/5/17 - Green so far!

Hi Spiritsong,
Weird what havoc a change in schedule can bring. Hopefully, you'll find your balance again soon,

How are things going? I for one am not expecting to lose during December-- if I feel good, have nice meals, and hold the line, that works for me. I'll revisit weight loss in January.

Cheers!

The leak that started at Thanksgiving led to all of the bath water draining out of the tub. I'm just not feeling it this month, perhaps partly due to December stress.

My plan is to start up again in the New Year. I know you're not supposed to put it off like that, but I am really low on motivation for anything, much less working on fat loss.

Sorry you're feeling low-motivation. Fasting always seems to mess with my body and mind in really negative ways! I hope you're feeling better soon. You know we're here :-)

I gently suggest you do take a break from working on fat loss and focus instead on establishing sustainable habits. I don't see any reason to toss the baby out with that bathwater.

Whatever you decide, remember to speak kindly to yourself. This can be quite a hectic time of year.

I'm back. Again.

Okay, so the new year didn't kick me into gear. But today I made an appointment with a new primary care doctor for early April (I haven't seen my last one in about 10 years and since I'm turning 50 this year, I figured it was time), so I have 9 weeks to get my act together.

So it is back on No S and working out, starting Saturday (Friday is my regular S Day and Rest Day). And no scales! This time it is not about weight loss. I need to pretend I am going to be this weight for the rest of my life and work on being a fit and healthy overweight person. My blood pressure was normal at my last gyno appointment, so I am off to a good start! :)
