Annanol's daily check-in

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Annanol's daily check-in

Post by Annanol » Thu Mar 15, 2018 7:42 am

Okay, just decided, I'll go for a daily check-in here, so that I can feel accountable for my process and won't start sabotaging it by not being honest to myself...

Day 1 just started here, so will be back at the end of the day to log my success or failure.

Success!

No problems whatsoever today, it was a busy day at school. The only moment I had, was whilst walking to my car, thinking about driving past the supermarket for some chocolate. But then thought: ‘am I hungry? Will it make me feel better? No!’ And that made me feel really good!

failure

I slipped up right after lunch. I thought I could take one chocolate Easter egg, as a sweet dessert. But no, ended up snacking on the whole bunch this afternoon. But I logged it a red day and will now move on. Onwards and upwards! :D

Not to congratulate you, but one measly Easter egg sounds like a lot of my Red days. Just so it doesn't become half a box of choc. eggs. You moved on and mark it as a fail, so you're on the right track.

Hi Annanol, good luck with your No S journey. I was a huge chocoholic and could probably put away many more Easter eggs than you...but 3 months in and I’m craving it much less, which is a miracle, believe me. If you manage to abstain for the 5 N days, you’ll be amazed at how the cravings diminish, and that’s regardless of how mad your S days are. Best wishes.

Totally in agreement with Whosonfirst and Octavia, the more green days you accumulate, the less cravings you have

failure

Somehow, Monday is always though. I need to find a way to not let my habit of after school snacking get the better of me. But, tomorrow is another day, no need to feel like a failure. My goal is to get more green then red days in this month. Wish me luck!

success

A really good day. I’ve made a list of reasons why not to binge/snack and why to stick to No-S. I intend to read my list daily, until my habits are well installed. My list is in Dutch, otherwise I would post it.

I'm so glad to hear your intention with the lists. I resisted using anything like that for years in my efforts, but it was pivotal with No S, especially the reading of them!

I'm one of the people here who absolutely needed to get those five consecutive days a week with no sweets. (This is in reference to your saying you thought you'd be able to have one chocolate egg and ended up jumping on them like a cobra. I did go crazy on S days but it was still less per week than I had been eating. I had tried many times to reduce the chocolate each day, or substitute other sweets, but I just did the same thing with them. My insulin system needed the break.

Just keep going.
