Nancy S Daily Check In

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Nancy S Daily Check In

Post by nancys » Wed Oct 24, 2018 1:17 pm

I am back, after trying every diet on earth I think. My goal is to follow No S for the next six months and let what happens happen. I'm going to try for accountability by checking in every day. Here is to no more diet shakes, depriving myself of good food and eating processed nasty tasting diet bars.

Welcome back and good luck :)

I'm curious as to what made you leave?

The allure of quick weight loss promised by other programs. I have a problem with patience. But this time, I am working on focusing on other things besides just the weight loss, like a better relationship with food. I just to work at not being distracted by new diets that give rapid results.

Welcome back! I am so with you about eating real, good-tasting food. We are here for you! I log pretty much every day and what makes it easy for me is to not consider this forum just about food. It's my online diary and a place to reflect on what is going well in life -- and what isn't! Food is just one aspect of that. So I really support you doing a daily check-in!

Day 2 - Success. Although we ate out both lunch and supper but I am focusing on the habit right now. I'll improve what goes on the plate later.

Success on Friday - although I had the after-dinner mint unwrapped before I realized it is a sweet. My son ate it though.

My weekend S days were out of control! I went way too hard on the sweets and there was no schedule for eating so a lot of snacks and such. By 7:00 last night, I was craving some structure and looking forward to Monday for the three meals with no snacks. Going to have to work on weekends definitely!

If you keep noticing your weekend habits they will gradually change...

A good day today - success! I passed up ice cream at my favorite lunch spot today with my husband and son and I didn't miss it as much as I have always assumed I would. And, while it is totally our of character for me to ever pass up ice cream, neither of the men in my life even commented on it.

I also adjusted my plate at supper. I was loading it up way too much and as I was looking at it, I realized I was being foolish and adding extra food just because it fit on the plate, not because I actually needed it and I put some spaghetti back. Finally beginning to think there is something to this 1 plate thing.

I think Soprano is right. My weekends were pretty ridiculous my first few months. I'm still eating more than I'd like, but things Have definitely calmed down. I do think we gradually get into a rhythm understanding that not having snacks and sweets during the week isn't lifelong deprivation like so many other diet plans, but just a different way of enjoying them in enforced moderation.

Congratulations on passing up the ice cream! Sometimes we do build these things up in our mind to be more than they actually are.

I'm impressed you took food off your plate!

Success yesterday although my choices were suspect. After eating what I want for the past week and a half, I find I am craving a salad that was a staple of my WW time. Probably going to treat myself to that for lunch today. Cooking to have friends over this evening and I'm not making dessert - a huge change for me.
