Nettee’s daily check in 2019

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Nettee’s daily check in 2019

Post by nettee » Wed Apr 17, 2019 8:11 am

Hello No S. I am restarting after a long break. Feeling positive and ready to go.

I have reread the book and am feeling remotivated.

I have two green squares on my habitcal from Monday and Tuesday and have not had any sugar withdrawal headaches yet.

I resisted chocolate at work yesterday, a major achievement after my recent red mist of sugar addiction.

I have recently been on a 12 week diet and health app program which worked beautifully for 6 weeks until I lost focus and spent the second six weeks gaining the weight back again. However I have stopped drinking caffeine, regained an enthusiasm for running and been reminded about some good principles of nutrition.

Starting weight on Monday was 13st 5.5lb (eek). Recorded here so that I can see how far I have come over the next weeks and months.

Links to my old thread and testimonial here:

https://everydaysystems.com/bb/viewtopi ... =8&t=11101

https://everydaysystems.com/bb/viewtopi ... 13&t=11235

My old habitcal records are really inspiring as I can see so visually how long I stuck with this before.

Here is a link to my habitcal (the ‘extra’ currently means a 20min run twice a week and a Parkrun on a Saturday):

https://everydaysystems.com/habitcal/vi ... et&t=Extra

Back tonight with another green success

Success

A good day today. So pleased to be back here on the no S board. I have downloaded the Happy scales app for recording weight loss. I enjoyed all my meals. Was very hungry by supper time but that is ok.

I am planning a run in the morning and have ordered a big food shop including some healthy and tasty no s food such as steak and pita bread among lots of other things.

Thank you both

I’ve just finished my second 20 minute run of the week and am pleased that it was further than Tuesday’s run. Next step is to see if I can go faster on Saturday’s Parkrun too.

Go for it liveitup, running is a surprisingly addictive and fun thing to do. My goal for tomorrow’s parkrun is to keep running for 30 minutes with no walking until that point. I am not fast so will still have at least 10 minutes to go but it will be longer than I have run for about 20 months.

success for yesterday.

We have a bank holiday today in the UK today but I am not going to take an S day for it. I may do on Monday because we are feeding our parents that day.

I think I will give myself a success for today. I got a bit too hungry while making dinner and did some stretched virtual plating but nothing too disastrous.

My first S day in a long time tomorrow. I have no plan which is not so good but hope not to be an idiot. I am going to see my mum - perhaps she will offer me a hot cross bun - that would go down well.

Happy Easter all.

I did my parkrun yesterday and I ran my 30 minutes followed by a 2 minute walk and then finished in just under 41 minutes. Very pleased.

The S day was ok ish, although I did eat things for the sake of it I think. I had my one hot cross bun at Mum’s which was a proper S day treat and then just a lots of pointless grazing once I got home. Never mind. Easter today and I have a plan for a very small Easter egg 🐣.

Maybe I will try to stick to that as my one S for today.

Hello - not a bad S day. I stick to my plan for most of the day and had my egg at 4. Some nibbles before and after supper on healthy things and then I had some of my children’s eggs that they were eating in the evening.

Tomorrow is another bank holiday and we are having family round for the day. I do want to get back into N days though. Should be able to make it work as long as I don’t buy in anything tempting for snacking on.

Had a slow run this morning but at least I got out there I guess.

success for Thursday. I did get a migraine and wonder if it is because I am not eating enough or having to big a gap between meals. Maybe my early supper on Wednesday followed by quite a small breakfast on Thursday morning. And a run on Thursday morning. I will aim to eat a bit more than two crackers, a bit of cheese and some strawberries this morning.

I have also developed a cold and wonder if I should skip parkrun tomorrow.

On the bright side the scales are being kind to me and I have lost nearly 4lb now.

Wow, congratulations!

If you're still feeling ill tomorrow, maybe just take a walk so you can keep up the habit, even if it's just a slow 10 minute stroll around the block. Or, take it off and rest so you can recover more quickly!

Thank you liveitup. I felt better this morning but set out in a yellow weather warning for wind to do one of the few parkruns that wasn't cancelled today feeling very intrepid. In fact it was sunny, there was no rain and mostly sheltered from the wind. So I achieved my objective of running all the way round this time and it’s my fastest time this year. Rather proud of myself.

I also had a success yesterday and have not yet turned into an idiot today :D

Thank you Octavia.

Unfortunately I did turn into an idiot after Saturday’s post but they were S days so never mind. It is Monday morning and so can have a green day today.

My daughter made me run with her in the Junior parkrun yesterday so I have another green on my exercise habitcal.

I think it would be good to have an anything goes S day in a Saturday and a one S day on a Sunday. See if I get on better with that this weekend.

Success for Friday

Whoohoo I made it through the first three weeks. :D

I was quite tempted last night but held it together. I hope I can get through the weekend without going too crazy. We have another bank holiday on Monday which makes it harder to get back on track.

No 5k parkrun for me this morning as I need to take my daughter somewhere else while my husband is working but I did my 20 minutes yesterday evening and will run the 2 k junior park run with the kids tomorrow. Maybe it will do my legs some good to have a gentler week.

I did my 2k this morning which is a bit like an interval trading session trying to keep up with my daughter between walking rests.

My one S Sunday was going beautifully until I had a melt down at about 5 and ate a whole medium sized Easter egg plus its mini egg and four squares of other chocolate.

Oh well, N day tomorrow, back to it.

You didn't ask, but I think it is a very good idea to reinforce the specialness of saving baking for S days with your kids. The American habit of baking and having sweets around all the time is way out of line with older traditional cultures, especially the intensity and portion sizes we're used to, and keeps upping what we consider the acceptable baseline of sweets intake. But it does have to be done without a lot of heaviness. Anyway, something to consider in the future.

Onwards!

Thanks guys - you are right about the children. Far too much sugar in their lives.

I am off to parkrun this morning- maybe my fresh legs will get me round quicker! Are you walking or jogging every day, automatedeating? How long for?

Success for yesterday.

Two S days ahead but I have not been planning for all the treats I might eat this week which I hope is a good thing. Also less sweet treats around in the house this weekend now that Easter is further behind us.

Hi Nettee! I am going every single day!!! Can you believe that? My goal is to just get out there everyday.
I am a 7 day streak as of today.

Generally between 30 minutes and an hour. I listen to a podcast while I'm out, but yesterday I just preferred to listen to the birds. They were so happy.

Wow well done automatedeating. Sounds good.

I cut my 5k time by 3 minutes on Saturday - partly because I had rested so much I guess but will go back to my two training sessions this week so things don’t slip.

My S days were reasonable over the weekend which is nice although the scales don’t seem to agree with that assessment! Back to Monday and 5 N days coming up.

success for Thursday and failure for yesterday. I went out to a party with nibbles after supper and drank something sweet and ate a few nibbles. I was quite pleased though because when I got home I considered eating all the things at home I have been resisting as it was a red day already but I didn’t.

Thanks :D

Two Successes so far this week. The weekend was not too crazy - we had a guest staying so some big meals but the snacking was ok. Also did my parkrun on Saturday.

I am struggling to keep up with my inbetween parkrun training though.

Good job on the weekend parkrun.
Good luck for "in-between" parkruns. :-)
I started an account on coach.me to keep track of RUN. I try to go 7 days a week - this morning was only 10 minutes but oh well! Better than nothing! My username over there is Auto E. I'm also tracking NO ALCOHOL and CLEAN.

Well done Automatedeating- that sounds interesting, I will have a look.

Success for Wednesday and Thursday. I have reached a new milestone on my happy scales app this morning too. 8lbs down now on No S. A few days off work coming up so hoping I can keep the motivation going.

I love that you call your runs "parkruns". It just has a great ring to it.

Nettee - my sister visited on Sunday and we went on a 40 minute - no stop - run! I couldn't believe I could even do that, since I'm so used to my walk/jogs. :-) Maybe eventually I'll be a real runner.

Automatedeating- if you can do that then you are a real runner - well done.

Yes parkrun is a real thing! It does have a ring to it and is very motivating as somewhere between 100 and 500 people turn up at each of 7 different and pretty locations close to me at 9.00 every Saturday morning and we all get an official recorded time for running 5k. It is free and inclusive. It is spreading around the world so there may be one near you.

success for Tuesday and failure for yesterday. Back to work this morning so hopefully easier to have some successful days before the weekend.

1st day of the month and a fresh page on my habitcal. I have a green for parkrun although I only did 3 k with a mixture of walking and running with my daughter. Very proud of my older daughter completing her first 5k parkrun.

Two breakfasts and some crisps so far on my s day. The second breakfast was in a cafe after the running and a really tasty treat.

Yes I think the social side of running is brilliant too.

Saturday was a bit crazy but I was pleased with Sunday with just one S in the afternoon.

Back to N days today and a normal week.

Failure for Monday. Pre dinner nibbles and one lead to another sadly. The weekend was not great. The scales are a bit static just now and I am feeling that this is never going to work. I need to remotivate because it is working slowly and I can stick to it most of the time for a long period.

Also a nws day on Friday as I was out for a big birthday celebration. Nothing too out of control that day.

You've got this Nettee. The beauty of the NoS structure is that you don't need 100% compliance. Aim for 80% green days and you'll probably see some progress.
