Jibaholic's Check-In

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Jibaholic's Check-In

Post by Jibaholic » Mon Dec 02, 2019 10:26 pm

I've tried a few things off and on, including No S, but I've never stuck to anything. If I'm going to stick to anything, it is this.

Mod: no snacking on the weekend. I can still have seconds and sweets.

Dangers:
-----------
  • Cereal at home
  • Jar of peanut M&M's at work

So so day.

Breakfast was bagel with cream cheese
Lunch was a chicken breast sub with chips from Subway
Dinner was Chile at Wendy’s

I did have a snack of some leftover Halloween candy I saw. It wasn’t much but reinforces how easy it is to impulse snack.

Went out on date night so had a big dinner (chips and guac as an appetizer and fish tacos)

Also had gum in the afternoon, so I haven't been great on the snacks and sweets to start. OTOH, I've been a lot worse too (3+ bowls of cereal, bingeing on the peanut M&M bowl at work etc.)

You are just getting going. Keep at it! I can't imagine your being sorry a couple of years from now using it, but I imagine you will be sorry if you don't.

Here's to a green Friday.
