automated eating tracker

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Thank you! It was a fun day and afterwards I ordered new skates! I've worn inlines since college, but now I'm getting "jam" skates! :-) They are low and like sneakers and for dancing! :-)

I ended up not eating the dessert. It needed to cool in the fridge. I'll have some today I guess.

A dog is a good motivator to walk some more! :D Except my dog.... she is even lazier than me. And skating, wow! It's actually a great idea because it's fun and you burn calories! :D

Happy Belated Birthday Auto! Welcome to 44! :D

Those skates sound cool! I have not heard of those.

I see some people on the bike/walking trails occasionally inline skating but I haven't seen it too much. This weekend I saw a 60ish-year-old man wearing old school roller skates on the trail.

...it’s funny but recently I’ve been off social media more and more, and not wanting to go back. I sort of can’t remember what it’s for. If I had a kind of brand to peddle, it would make sense, but I don’t. But maybe I should....arghhh, it’s so confusing. When I ask friends what Instagram is for, I end up goading them with my stubborn refusal to understand. Eg. Me: ‘so what’s Instagram for, especially when you already have FB?’
Friend: ‘well, it’s more for photos.’
Me: ‘yes, but what for?’
Friend: ‘well it’s good for putting over your brand, like your public image...’
Me: ‘yes, but what for?‘

Etc etc. It seems to me that you post things to put over an image, and other people read the posts only to make comparisons with what THEY are doing.
Then I wonder if I’m being negative, and that it’s better to be a part of something than refuse to engage...? Yesterday I went on FB and saw I had missed friends’ birthdays, and a long-standing colleague had lost her dad. So I left a few messages. Sigh! This is a no-win conundrum, I fear!

Hope your weekend goes well.

Octavia - I keep my close friends' birthdays in my phone! No FB needed! :-) And about the colleague's father - again, if you worked more closely with this person or if you were. ... personally closer, you would have heard sooner. And.... again personally, if it were me I wouldn't want everyone messaging me right away after losing a loved one. So I don't think those situations warrant feeling the need to be on FB. I am not on FB and I (delightfully and thankfully) miss party invitations (well pre-COVID when there was such a thing). I think you know how disappointed that makes me feel. NOT!

I can't imagine going on Instagram, either. I use Google Photos and I have a great time organizing my photos. I make albums of particular special events and then share them with my mom and my sisters. If I have a fun picture, I just text it to my closest friends.

Another thing to protect myself is that I have all notifications turned off on my phone, and my phone is always on silent. I also don't have a voicemail account set up. That may be my most favorite boundary of the last year. People get pretty annoyed about that one.

Octavia - silent phones unite! :-)

Alene - Not sure about the dairy, because I basically have brought that back in the past week and my numbers are still great; however, less fruit and yogurt overall, which are typically my main source of carbohydrate. So I think it's the overall lower carbohydrate, honestly. However, the only way I can do that and feel so good is by increasing the protein and the highly bioavailable micronutrients from animal products. But I just don't know if I can be this restrictive forever. I worry about my thyroid or sex hormones or adrenal hormones, etc (although currently all my blood tests are normal - I am just thinking about down the road). I HAVE to balance my carbohydrate intolerance with a diet that is sustainable forever. I'm going to need "S" days even if it means some days I have higher blood sugar than is healthy for my blood vessels (numbers above 140mg/dL is where diabetic complications can begin - heart disease, kidney damage, retina damage, nerve pain). But based on my already-existing mild kidney damage, my complications started earlier than some people's may have, so the health issue for me is a serious motivator - but I still need a release valve! Last night I had popcorn, which my kids and I love, and I just made sure to not eat the whole bag, lol. My blood sugar was great with the reasonable portion size. I also do well with a high-quality real ice cream, as long as I control the portion size. And even pizza, as long as I watch the portion (that's a super super challenge for me though - I always wanttto eat ALL the pizza). Things like potatoes or rice, though - it's as if there is no filter between when they hit my mouth and when my blood sugar skyrockets.

Goodness, that was a very long answer to your question. I've been noodling on this a lot, and trying to think sustainably. The yogurt and fruit provide me with the calcium and vitamin C that I prioritize in my diet, and so much potassium as well, etc., etc. Lots of good stuff in that meal, so I want to keep it around. I just can't eat enough leafy greens to get the calcium I believe I need (for my own personal hypercalciuria condition), and I don't trust the bioavailability of it anyway. I've tried eating sardines, and will continue to do so occasionally, but I don't look forward to it. And eating needs to be pleasurable (like my yogurt). :-) Strawberries and broccoli or other salad stuff are my main source of Vitamin C, but I am concerned I am not getting enough right now. I can't wait until the Cuties are back at Costco (and good-tasting, not like they get at the end of the season). I wonder how Natives in the northwest got Vitamin C in the winter? Maybe pemmican? (that's dried salmon with dried berries in it). Well, and organ meats like liver have a decent amount of Vitamin C. Anyway, I digress.

On the social media discussion:

it's funny but I have actually started using Instagram more since the pandemic. I have 7 people who follow me. All family or very close friends, so I just share pictures of our day to day activities or weekend stuff with the kids so that they can keep up with our family since contact is so minimal now and we are all more isolated. I find Instagram way less overwhelming than Facebook. I suppose I could also start a blog and give everyone the link, but this is easier for now. I do not like Facebook. I am rarely on there.

Looks like you are figuring some stuff out for your eating auto! Its a tricky balance eating for health AND sustainability.

Pinkie - I definitely think it's whatever we feel most comfortable with - just like eating, we are all different. I just feel bad for people that think they NEED to be on social media so that they don't let friends down. Again to draw a food parallel, it's like when we feel we have to eat the food that others offer us. :-) Can we make analogies to everything with food, LOL!?

Linda, your poor hubby works his tail off. I know of so many doctors that are so busy at work, they really have no time for self-care! It's ironic and sad and frustrating, too.

Feeling down and draggy today. Challenger has a cold (cold, right, not COVID?!) and I'm just lethargic. But I think part of my mood is that I am behind on the videos I need to be making and I am feeling a bit stuck. I've been working on a series on Heart Murmurs, and for some reason I cannot get myself organized and doing good work. I'm feeling kind of dumb and incompetent, to be honest. I know that sounds extreme; of course this feeling will pass. But it's been building for about a week and I think today I kind of hit the wall. I might just start over on this whole video series.

Sorry you're feeling a bit stuck. You are anything but incompetent, and I know that you know that. As you said, these feelings will pass, as they always do. What is it about this series that is more challenging? Anything else in your life that is a dark cloud hovering that might be making you feel this way? A good, brisk walk and thinking about it all in a fresh new way might get the juices flowing! Hope the mood soon passes.

Ah, thank you Alene!

I think the issue with this series is that it can be quite complicated and the company I'm contracted with wants my videos all under 5 minutes. So for about a week I was trying to keep it just one video. At this point, I've decided to break it into 3 different videos (so 15 minutes total) - obviously that gives me A LOT more time to adequately explain the info. Also, for these videos, I use heart sounds to give examples of different murmurs, and I've had a very difficult time getting the sound quality the way I like it. So the "dark cloud" I think is that despite all my efforts, I know these videos won't be quite as professional-sounding as I want them. But, just this morning I was laying in bed and had several editing ideas that I quickly wrote down and will work on today. So we'll see! Update - I got 2 videos done today! I decided to break up the topic from ONE to FIVE!!! Each video is 5 min long, so I definitely decided to give this topic much more time and that made things easier. Ultimately, I do believe it's best for students this way. It's lovely if you can manage to teach a topic (well) in less than 5 minutes, but I really do think beginning students are better served by a systematic and patient approach.

Thanks Alene and Linda! It's funny - I keep thinking how weird it is for me to be this tired for an entire week. I remembered when I was in college I would joke that I had my quarterly "mono". Maybe not a great joke, in hindsight, but I do remember it making me laugh at my situation. That's how I feel now. What the heck is wrong with me?

So I decided to go a little wild today and take an S Day/on the couch day. It's pouring down rain outside, so it seems fitting. I took the kids to Dairy Queen and we all got Blizzards.

I still feel completely wiped out but I've got to just be gentle with myself. Challenger is pretty well recovered; Creator is still hacking and snuffling but on the mend.

We started watching "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind" on Netflix. But we paused it - I need a nap. Sheesh. I'm a mess.

You’re not a mess! Your body is just trying to tell you to slow down. Good for you for listening. Youll be back to your old energizing bunny self soon enough. Jealous of your rain.

Yes, you are definitely not your usual energetic self! I'm sure that's hard for you because you are usually so productive. I hope this weekend finds you feeling better.

...on the topic of resting etc....remember what Ekhart says, about the damage we do by resisting the natural ebb and flow of our energy. In fact I’ve just found the bit in The Power of Now - it’s on p.152 of my old paperback copy. ‘Your physical energy is also subject to cycles. It cannot always be at a peak. ....many illnesses are created through fighting against the cycles of low energy, which are vital for regeneration.’

But I’m like you, I get frustrated and worried by my dips and troughs. Maybe I’ll reread The Power of Now...

Hope you have a good weekend. X

Thanks everybody for the kind encouragement. I really needed it and appreciate it. I do think there was just something going on inside me that needed to be a slug for a week. But it was so hard to accept. Channeling Eckhart Tolle! :-) Time for a Reread, like Octavia said!

I basically took a couple of S Days.

Friday
B: coffee w/cream, collagen proteins, MCT
L: yogurt w/berries, Blizzard from DQ & some french fries
D: nachos w/cheese
dessert: more ice cream

Saturday
B: coffee w/cream, collagen proteins, MCT
L: yogurt w/berries
D: 1 piece of pizza, a huge plate of nachos w/beans & cheese
dessert: ice cream

Today is Sunday.

128.4

Eating
B: coffee w/cream, yogurt w/berries
L: too busy skating!!!
D: pizza
dessert: cheetos

I'm feeling quite discouraged still, tbh. I got my most recent A1C back, and, after eating extremely restrictively for the past month, my A1C was 5.2%. This is amazing and wonderful and completely normal - down from 6% a year ago. So you'd think I'd be ecstatic, right? Wrong....

BECAUSE, I think I have met my "restrictive" boundary. I can't eat that strictly for the rest of my life. So what does that mean? Am I doomed to get type 2 diabetes? Waaaaaah, waaaaah, waaaaah, where is my pacifer?

This "burnout" is EXACTLY what Jenny Ruhl writes about in her books on diabetes. They are really excellent; she always focuses on sustainable carb restrictions that can be kept over the long haul. She recommends metformin or other meds if the only way to keep blood sugar down is to eat in an unrealistic manner.

I am not sure if my extreme low carb eating was why I couldn't get off the couch all week. I also had some stomach cramping this past week that scarily reminded me of my C.dif days. On the other hand, I had felt fine for the first month or so eating that way, even extra good some of the time. Sometimes it's hard to know if something is mental or physical (oh how entwined the two things are). And I could have been fighting off the same cold that the boys had, who really knows. So many variables in everyday life make my ideal experiments impossible to carry out.

Like many of us on these boards have been saying lately - I need to get back to basics. My basics, granted, are a little different than vanilla NoS, but I DO have a long history now (over 2 years) of eating in a sustainable way that had me feeling energetic, svelte (haha), and strong. With moderate carb restriction, my A1C was not normal, but also not yet diabetic. My average blood sugars were good on my CGM (103mg/dL typical average). Can you tell I'm trying to focus on the positive? :-) I really am!

I'll tell you what works for me: my high-fat, high-protein yogurt w/some berries. It is satisfying for me, it provides boundless macro and micro nutrients in a compact meal, it's easy, portable, and allows me to support local farmers and regenerative agriculture. My kids like it, my dogs like it, my gut loves it (dare I say, relies on it?!), it's all around good. I got rid of dairy (mostly) for a month. Been there, done that. The yogurt is returning with triumph.

My basics also include lots of walking. Lots and lots of outdoor walking with my pups.

OK I feel better for having vomited all of this swirly headspace onto my thread. :-)

Taking the boys roller skating again today.

Congratulations on the reduction in blood sugar. Am I correct that this measure is based on the last 3 months?

If so maybe eating in the more restricted way might work for one or two days a week?

Glad you are feeling better, keep those positive thoughts :)

Thank you Soprano! Yes, it's generally considered a 3-month average; however, most of what I've read explain that it is heavily weighted on the previous 2 weeks. I really like your idea about bringing in some ultra-low carb days, then most other days could be my regular moderate approach. I feel like that could be sustainable.

Auto, I’m right there with you on the “limit” where self care feels restrictive. I heard someone call it the edge once & I liked it!! She said the edge is different for everyone & what feels restrictive to one person doesn’t to another & that the only way to be successful is to find your edge & respect it!!

Glad you’re bringing back the yogurt :D

Sorry you have been feeling down and draggy. I also need to re read the power of now. It is a good reminder about the physical energies.

That is tough! Eating sustainably in a way that is good for your health needs too. I also like Sopranos suggestion of just having a few days of low carb. It does sound like yogurt makes you feel good though!

Jen, I really like the idea of the "edge." That makes so much sense. Auto, it sounds like you have found yours and now you just need to figure out how to work with it and do what you can within that to be at your best health. Has your energy picked up at all? I hope so!

Hi everybody - thanks as always for the constant support this forum provides, especially when I am struggling.

As I look back on 2020, I've really been struggling all year. January was rough because we got Flowerpup, and then HappyHerder bit her badly after one week. I had an anxiety attack that lasted weeks. Self-care wise I feel like I honestly have not recovered since then.

Once COVID hit, things became different in my schedule and food. In April, I walk/jogged over 15,000 steps each day! Nevertheless, I've been gaining weight since February of this year......

But I woke up this morning feeling different. I can't quite put my finger on it, but something feels like the old me. Hopefully this feeling lasts......

I have decided to go on a road trip. Just Flowerpup and me. For about a week or so. Heading out Nov. 6th, I think. So I have to get ahead by about 5 videos in order to really relax. I think I'm going to camp, rather than hotels. But it might depend on how rainy it is (we've already had a pretty rainy fall!)

Tuesday, October 20

FBG: 102mg/dL

Eating
B: coffee w/cream, 2 protein bars (yes, another weird thing that I have for the boys but they never eat them - I figure while I'm off the rails I'll eat them up, lol)
L: peanut butter on toast, 2 cups of milk..... 1 hour post meal my BG is only 107mg/dL; 2 hours -
D: fell apart. I had 2 snack bags of cheetos, chips w/salsa, another protein bar

Moving
I plan a long walk after finished 2 videos today.

Thanks Soprano and Pinkie! I'm leaving November 6th and will return home by Nov. 15th. I'm in the planning stages, but first was the discussion with Sexy about kid transportation while I'm gone. He's on board, so I think this will work!

Y'all, I just about had a cry-fest melt-down this morning. I might still - there's no telling..... I decided to read through my thread from when I was on top of the world - lots of energy, good blood glucose, losing weight. I thought it would inspire and motivate me. That was about Fall 2018-spring 2019. The next phase was Fall 2019 - Spring 2020. I stopped drinking entirely, and my fasting blood glucose went way up - like 20 freaking points up. Same foods, same exercise, only difference was the complete abstinence from alcohol. It's really stark when I read through my journal. So what I tried to do was tighten way up on the carbs, but that did not fix my glucose. So I feel angry and sad and scared and confused right now. I also just generally haven't been feeling good or my usual energetic self. I feel depressed and like my body is sick or something.

I don't have a solution. I feel lost and sad. So reading through my thread made me feel helpless, as if I've already tried everything and still I'm gaining weight, losing energy, and not controlling my blood sugars. It's like I'm on some horrible downward spiral in my body that is out of my control.

One glimmer I'm having is that I just need to quit drinking again and that will help my mood. But I know from last time that when I quit drinking, the first month I was particularly tired and had to use a lot of willpower. Also, my stupid blood sugar will just suck again. I hate it. Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I’m so sorry you are having such a rough time. It seems very unfair considering how much work you put into to everything. That must feel really frustrating to say the least. It really is crazy that your blood sugar is better with drinking but your mood is better without it. Geez! 🤦🏼‍♀️

You may already know about this site but wanted to post it in case you don’t. This is where I’m doing my 100 day challenge and it’s really helped me a lot:

I don’t have time to write as much as I’d like but big big *hugs*. This too shall pass. 🌺

PS
I know how you feel a little bit. I’ve been running for 3 months & gave up alcohol yet zero weight loss. 😢

Thank you so much, Linda. I really need and appreciate the support.

I also didn't lose any weight when I stopped drinking.... who are these people that lose weight when they quit? :-) Indeed, I think I used/use wine to avoid nighttime snacking!!

Auto, I am so glad Sexy is on board! That definitely makes things easier.

I am sorry you are feeling so bad. :( I know I keep saying it, like a broken record on everyone's thread but do you think some of the depression/fatigue could be pandemic related? I have been depressed and upset and hating my life in ways I NEVER have before and looking back at old pre-pandemic photos makes me really sad. It's just so far in the background now that I think I don't realize how much of an impact it has. I know stress makes me gain weight too.

I am sorry about the alcohol too. I agree with Linda, it sucks that it helps your blood sugar but not your mood. Is there any other substitute that would help your blood sugar besides alcohol?

Auto, sending you the biggest hugs. I'm so sorry you're going through this frustration. You are trying so hard to do all the right things, and your body just isn't cooperating. I wish that I had some advice that would be helpful. I think your road trip will be a big help to your right now. Having all that time to yourself sounds amazing. I hope it lifts your spirits and gives you new ideas and perspectives.

Thursday, October 22

Weight: 129.8
FBG: 109mg/dL

Thank you Pinkie and Alene. I am already really starting to feel better. I honestly think that I was fighting some sort of virus the past 10 days that made me inordinantly tired. I'm not sure if it was even food-related at all. But of course I really went off the rails and lost my **** for a few days. Par for my course, eh?

But OK, I'm feeling more stable this morning. When I am on point with eating, and limiting my drinking, my fasting blood sugar is approximately 95mg/dL. This is technically too high for optimal health, but it also technically is not associated with blood vessel damage and other diabetic complications. And most definitely my post-prandial glucose is optimal, so long as I eat the way I typically do (and the way I happen to like, so it's very sustainable). So. I might just need to settle for "good enough". Believe it or not, after years of fighting this, I might be ready to do that.

I didn't get much work done yesterday. Alene, if you're reading this, I guess I took a personal day. I was supposed to be making a video on amiodarone, a drug used to treat cardiac arrhythmia. Anywho. Didn't do that. Spent the day reading through my thread (that always makes me miss people that aren't currently active on the boards, too!), considering what changes I CAN make, and walking the dogs. It ended up a good day.

Three new things my "personal day/googling" ran me into:

1) I found this website called the "The Breathing Diabetic" and he makes a big case for breathing exercises as a method to lower blood sugar. I'm sure it's nothing magical, but the physiology of breathing/parasympathetic response and how that lowers blood pressure is quite convincing. I haven't read the research articles yet, but apparently there are at least a few clinical trials where breath work improved diabetic blood sugar control. I was super into Ziva Meditation for awhile, so getting back into breath work makes a lot of sense for me. Another aspect is breath-holding, where you practice doing that and supposedly it improves tissue oxygenation abilities. It's all quite interesting, and it just so happens that I have always loved breath-holding competitions. LOL. I was the kid in the pool begging everyone to time me while I held my breath. So I ordered a pulse oxymeter for fun (you see if you can get your oxygen sats down into the high 80's or something like that), and I ordered those mouth taping strips. Have y'all heard of this? Mouth-taping at bedtime to ensure nasal breathing during the night? It's all the rage these days, lol!! So, I'm not expecting anything super special, but this breath work/taping is a nice way for me to feel a bit more in control of my health and gives me a focus and a way to remain optimistic.

2) I'm less convinced, but sort of intrigued, by this website that described using your blood sugar as a way to "hunger" train. I've actually run across papers that showed this to be pretty effecive, and so I tried it a year or two ago. The problem was they wanted me to wait to eat until my blood sugar was below 85mg/dL. Well, that was too difficult for me. This particular article noted that problem for people with blood sugar issues and so their take on it is that you find your "personal blood sugar trigger" and wait to eat until your blood sugar is below that point. They do advocate that eventually you really focus on regular mealtimes, so it fits nicely with NoS, actually. But I am skeptical about this because a) I've always heard that diabetics have their blood sugar just KEEP going up in the morning if they don't eat, because their livers aren't listening to insulin - then the food gets a big enough insulin squirt from the pancreas to finally lower the sugar. Anyway, I'm experimenting with this on myself this morning. I woke up with 109mg/dL and I'm waiting an hour to see if it lowers. I suppose my personal trigger would be 100mg/dL to start with (they have a method to figure it out, but I know my blood sugars quite well already). The other thing I'm skeptical about with this method is that I've never found a consistent pattern with my hunger and my blood sugar. I do think it's probably there, but I think that it's my SWINGS from high to low that trigger hunger, not necessarily a steady and slow change. Anyway, I'll pay attention to these patterns in particular for a few days and see what I think. Last - my fasting blood sugar definitely changes based on my eating and alcohol, so it could be that I am missing the patterns because of that.

3) "Cutback Coach" This is an alcohol moderation texting thing. It's free for 30 days. Each Sunday they'll have me enter my alcohol moderation goals for the week (certain dry days and then drink limits on drinking days). Then each time I pour a glass of wine, I text them and they keep track and give me encouragement to stop or whatever the goal is for the day. I'll give this a try. Before I quit alcohol entirely in 2019, I had one excellent run of moderation (using a website called Moderation Management). But then, 3 months into it, I fell completely off the rails. I was so pissed that I quite entirely after that. But I am reminded how well I was doing for those 3 months. I think I'll try this again.

Oh, gosh, I gotta get these boys to school! And I'll be wearing gloves on my walk this morning! It's gotten cold!
-
So I'm trying this "wait until my blood sugar is below my personalized trigger point". Harumph. I woke up at 109mg/dL (7am), then by 10am was at 102mg/dL. Went on another dog walk and blood sugar went UP to 111mg/dL. According to this plan, I should wait to eat. Well, I'm hungry! It's now 11am and my blood sugar is 108mg/dL

Eating
B: black coffee :x while I watched to see if my blood sugar would drop
L: At noon, my blood sugar was down to 91mg/dL so I had my normal yogurt w/berries
pre-food: 91mg/dL
1 hour: 87mg/dL
1.5 hours: 100mg/dL
2 hours: 113mg/dL
2.5hours: 111mg/dL
So according to this silly plan, I'll wait to have my dinner until my blood sugar is less than 100mg/dL. I sort of can't believe I'm doing this funny experiment.
By about 5pm, glucose was down to 93mg/dL. So today I had to skip breakfast, but lunch and dinner ended up right on time. Weird experiment.
D: beef salad bowl and 3 onion rings

Moving
2 nice walks. Starting to feel myself again. I'm even making good progress on my current video.

I'm at Speed Skate practice with Creator. He's trying it out, since there isn't much else going on kid sport wise. Those speed skates are crazy weird! Apparently it's very painful for the ankles in the beginning.

Hi auto, hugs from me too. And I’m glad to hear that you feel a bit better. I too sometimes feel unwell, like my body isn’t in balance, for no apparent reason. I do my best to eat and exercise moderately, do all the right things...it just doesn’t always help! There are mysterious forces at work, maybe we’ll never understand them....and like you say, it could be something as simple as a virus. A Personal Day sounds like a great, healing idea! I think I could do with one, too. Not doing too well on No S right now...

I’m glad you’re starting to feel better!! I think we all go through times when everything feels great & other times when it doesn’t feel that way at all!! It’s so hard to deal with the bad when ultimately we all just want to feel good, all of the time

Octavia - I hope you take a personal day too! We should have a forum-wide "personal NoS day". :-)

Jen - yeah, you'd think that I'd learn to stop fighting it when the low times come. But then again, I suppose if I stopped fighting it, I might stay in despair for all time?

OK, so it's Friday! October 23rd! My good friend's birthday is today.

127.8
FBG: 105mg/dL
The plan is to wait until it's less than 100mg/dL before taking in any further energy, going on the (somewhat silly) concept that if my blood sugar is elevated above 100mg/dL, I have no need for further energy at the moment. Now, the reason I think it's a bit silly is because in diabetics, the problem is that they have all this energy in their bloodstream but they can't get it inside their cells. Hence much of the fatigue involved with the disease. However, even though this plan doesn't exactly make sense to me scientifically, it is giving me a bit of motivation since hey - it's an experiment! :-) So whatever. I'm trying it.

Yesterday it was almost exactly at noon when my glucose dropped below 100mg/dL. But I wasn't really bothered or hungry about it. Today, though, I'm hungry and wanting to eat. It's only 9:45am and I keep checking. LOL. Still 105mg/dL. But I guess I'm finally learning to drink black coffee. Black coffee is better than no beverage on this cold morning.

Eating
B: black coffee :x - will have a milk coffee if blood glucose drops enough
I was hungry but my blood glucose didn't drop until 11am. Then ate lunch.
L: yogurt w/berries
pre-lunch: 98mg/dL
1 hour: 105mg/dL
2.5 hours: 112mg/dL
5.5 hours: 91mg/dL
D: beef bowl salad

This is a very interesting blood sugar experiment you are doing auto! Are you noticing any change or is it too early?

It sounds like a good experiment - sort of counter-intuitive as you explained, and yet with the contradictory, illogical, capricious nature of our bodies, why not try something different? Go for it, and report back! :)

Hope your weekend goes well x

Pinkie - What I'm noticing is HUNGER! I am starting to think that my weight gain during COVID is as simple as me never letting myself get hungry. I would drink creamy coffee all morning, and I think those calories added up! Back pre-COVID (ah yes, like you mentioned elsewhere it's like surreal and hard to remember normal times), I never had time for more than 1 or maybe 2 cups coffee in the morning, then I was on my feet and running all day for work, coming home hungry for dinner. So. I guess this could be helping. Another possible thing is that my glucose was down this morning, for the first time since I went off the rails last Thursday for 5 days. It is fascinating how the wild eating kept my fasting blood sugar elevated so long.

Octavia - my capricious, contradictory, illogical body!!! Yes! :-)

Saturday, October 24th

This morning feels very relaxing. I slept great. I have a puzzle to work on, a yard to (hopefully) mow this afternoon when it is drier, some laundry to work on, some toilets and floors to clean, some boys to hug, some dogs to walk, and a good series my hubby and I will watch tonight (it's called Queen's Gambit; we are in episode 2 - he is a chess addict and I like the poor story of this young girl).

Speaking of TV, I do have a recommendation. It's on Amazon: The Most Dangerous Ways to School Our whole family watches it together (I'm telling you - this is practically inconceivable to me that we all like the same show), and I love that my boys are interested and seeing how fortunate we are to live in such luxury and comfort in our country.

127.6
FBG: 84mg/dL (yippy! I got to have milky coffee according to my "capricious" experiment (Octavia I love that word for this particular experiment).

Eating
B: coffee w/milk
after my hike it was 1:30pm; blood sugar was 93mg/dL and I was hungry! so had....
L: beef salad bowl and a teriyaki steak strip, 1 protein bar (basically this was like a dessert with my lunch)
dessert #2: protein bar (these are like candy bars for me I guess)
D: yogurt w/berries
dessert #3: ice cream

Skating last night was SO fun! I am eternally grateful that they are able to be open - of course at extremely limited capacity and with a ton of rules, but so so thankful! Creator showed improvement in his "cross-over" turn after just one day of speed-skating practice. That really shocked me, pleasantly of course. 11 of the kids from Challenger's school were there. I worked on my turns, little jumps, spins (I'm bad at all these things), and fell several times. That was my "weight-bearing" activity, I guess. :-)

Oh, and here's a funny: the girls all had bare mid-driffs! It's apparently the "COVID fall style", which amuses me to no end. The youth will find a way to express themselves! If no one can see their faces, well Gosh Darn they'll show their bellies!

LOL at the teens and showing their bellies! Makes perfect sense to me!

That is so interesting about the hunger. I know what you mean about getting hungry. I notice that on some days I never truly get hungry before a meal. Sometimes I Just don't want to wait, and being home with the food right there does make it more difficult. Thanks for the recommendation on the Amazon show! Maybe I can get my girls to watch it after they get their schoolwork done for the day. It looks interesting.

Pinkie - I'm going to really focus this week on letting myself actually get a bit hungry between meals. The blood sugar experiment is definitely an aid with this.

Sunday, October 25

FBG: 98mg/dL

Eating
B: coffee w/milk, 1/3 of a banana, avocado on toast
I didn't track specific times after my breakfast, but at one point I was at 127mg/dL. 2 pieces of toast! Sheesh (optimally I wouldn't go above 120, but I'm satisfied as long as I don't go over 140mg/dL - that is the point when blood vessel damage begins)
At 1pm I was down to 93mg/dL and got to eat lunch! :-) which was of course:
L: yogurt w/berries
At 5:30 my blood glucose was down to 98mg/dL so I ate dinner:
D: teriyaki steak, protein bar, 1/3 banana
When I got home I was going to have ice cream but my blood glucose was still 117mg/dL so I didn't.

Moving
Lots of cleaning already this morning. I did a super thorough bathroom clean - everything squeaky clean and shiny. Kitchen, floors, slider, laundry. I'm on a roll!

Taking Creator to speed-skating tonight again. It's nice for him to have a sport again. Challenger's basketball is still going, so I'm very thankful these kids are still getting some decent exercise.

Creator's Vitamin D level was a little low, so I'll be supplementing these boys for the winter (didn't test Challenger, but will supplement him too). Mine is fine! :-)

Loving following your experiment.

How do you test vit D. I don't normally take supplements but given covid and winter looming thought about getting vit D tablets.

Hi Soprano! This experiment is actually kind of growing on me. There's something about thinking to myself, "hmmm, I have plenty of energy for my body right now so I don't need to eat anything extra".

Soprano, as far as the blood tests go: I asked Creator's doc, during his regular check-up, for the Vitamin D blood test and A1C. I haven't got the bill yet, but she made clear I'll probably have to pay for it (about $65 I think). For myself, I often now use online healthlabs or labsonline (websites where you pay for the test you want, they send you a lab slip and you present it to a local blood draw). I just test what I want and try to avoid going to doc and having to explain myself. They never understand because they are so overworked and exhausted that most of them don't have time to sift through nutrition controversies. I don't blame them, but I avoid them, haha. Do you know I had a nephrologist once tell me, (when I expressed concern that I have hyperinsulinemia and was requesting a fasting insulin test) - "it would be impossible for you to have elevated insulin or you wouldn't have elevated glucose!" This dear doctor (he really was very nice and I'm sure he's brilliant) had no idea about the rampant problem of hyperinsulinemia/insulin resistance - and he treats type 2 diabetics every single day. all day. I will say he did finally give in. Like I said, he's nice. But he just shook his head. (BTW my fasting insulin WAS slightly elevated. So there.)

Monday, October 26!

128.0
FBG: 97mg/dL

Eating
B: coffee w/milk
after my hike, my blood glucose was 121! I retested - I thought that MUST be an error. But second test was 117mg/dL. So I guess the excitement of the walk...? so now having black coffee while I wait for it to drop to below 100mg/dL and then I'll eat lunch.
L: yogurt w/berries
D: burger w/cheese, pickles, avocado, bacon,onion, tomato
today ended up a big fail! I ended up having FOUR glasses of wine, a bowl of ice cream, and a protein bar in the evening. :?:

Moving
Heading out for a walk with Flowerpup - on our walk, a sweet golden retriever joined us. He followed us for 30 minutes, and he and Flowerpup had a grand time playing. I found an address on his collar, and he happily got in our car and we took him home. No one answered, so I was trying to figure out what to do next. Then up drove the family - a mom and her two adorable girls - and everyone was thrilled to be reunited. :-)

I've had a moderate epiphany, although I know there are "seasons" to all of my work patterns. What I think I've learned is that I really need to exercise before I settle down to do my video work. Now, I think if I've been consistently hiking a lot, then I can have a morning where I am super focused and productive on my mental work (in other words, I can skip a morning hike from time to time). But in general, I need that physical outlet before I can be mentally on-point. I have been trying to switch and do more walks in the afternoon, reasoning that my most productive times are in the morning. But that strategy had been not clicking quite like I wanted, so now I'm "sacrificing/investing"? an hour in the morning for my typical walk (like I used to pre-COVID).

I love how you’re waiting for hunger!! I’ve noticed myself when I’m on the higher end of my set point weight that I feel less hunger. I like “watching” your experiments & seeing how they turn out. I think that’s what I like the most about these boards, seeing everyone’s trial & error :D

Auto it is really scary the lack of knowledge Doctors have around type 2 diabetes, though I do believe this is slowly changing now both in the UK and USA.

I've been following a few accounts on twitter around the subject and it seems people are controlling/improving it either by low carb or fasting or combination of both.

I have my A1C again Nov, should be interesting to see if the small changes I have been making have helped!

Your blood sugar experiment really is so interesting. I find it interesting that your blood sugar was elevated after physical activity. I always thought it would be the opposite.

I know what you mean about needing the physical activity to hone in mentally. I really find it helpful too.

Soprano, yes the change is happening but SOOOOOOO slowly. Molasses slow. And at the same time that many are learning the truth about how common carbohydrate intolerance is, there is increasing pushback from the vegan community.
So I'm not sure where we will all be in 10 years - if we end up with meat costs becoming so expensive that only the wealthy can have access, well, that is not good for the people that end up replacing meat with processed carbohydrates. They will miss out on valuable nutrients and at the same time become more obese, diabetic, and suffer more from all the chronic diseases that plague our societies due to processed foods.
So some days I have hope that more accurate nutrition information will become available to all, not just the relatively wealthy and well-educated; other days I feel sad that ultimately it will be those that are already the most disadvantaged that get fed the govt. guidelines foods (school lunches, food stamps, etc).

A bright spot of hope is that continuous glucose monitors are now becoming available to everyday people - direct to consumer. I listened to a lovely podcast today by a company called Nutrisense - I highly recommend it to everyone here on the forum:
https://www.bradkearns.com/2020/10/27/k ... imization/

My favorite part was when they discussed how the immediate feedback of glucose changes can really be a wonderful guide to behavior modification with dietary changes. She gave an example of how she and a colleague (both dieticians that work with the clients) had different glucose responses (one went up a lot, one barely at all) to foods such as bananas and sweet potatoes.

Tuesday, October 27

FBG: 103mg/dL

Eating
B: bacon & eggs, potato casserole (Sexy and I went out for a breakfast date), coffee w/cream
L: blood sugar still pretty high thanks to that potato casserole (but damn was it good) - 118mg/dL
still waiting - it's now 3pm and blood glucose 102mg/dL
D: ground beef mixed with organ meats, broccoli
2 glasses of wine
Argh!! Another fail night! Ice cream followed by TWO protein bars. Good news is those protein/candy bars are out of the house. They apparently push every single one of my "eat and never stop" buttons.

Moving
Took both dogs on a nice hike. I usually don't take HappyHerder on the hikes that I have to drive to, but I did today. He shook in the car but it was only 10 minutes, so overall I think it was worth the stress for him. Maybe?

Hi Soprano - yes, I've studied and use apple cider vinegar, although not always consistently. It does lower my blood sugar by a few points - nothing super notable though so I tend to stop remembering to take it. On the other hand, I use it generously on my salads and I love it.

Eating
B: coffee w/milk - I went ahead with this despite the high FBG because I was angry about my blood sugar. Yes, there you have it. Very mature of me.

D: fish, 1/3 of a banana, and a glass of milk
2 glasses of wine
dang - fail again with ice cream

I think the advent and complete over-use of cellphones has probably contributed to the writing, complex thinking, and memory skills decline we see not only in young people, but also in adults. :( I am trying really hard to use my cell phone less around my daughter --even though she's only 6 weeks old. I want to break my own bad habit of being too dependent on that sort of tech. I am trying to do all my planning via paper now vs. digitally so I don't have to constantly look at my phone throughout the day. I've also taken a lot of social media off my phone so I can only check it on the desktop.

Terribly, Pinkie! This experiment was a giant fail! My morning blood glucoses have never been so high! What ended up happening is that I had to wait to eat all morning, which made me ravenous. I know that my "coffee w/milk or cream or whatever" might not look like a ton in the morning, but it is definitely important for me to feel satisfied! So then later in the day I was still starving after dinner, and I've been eating ice cream or candy (or even protein bars) at night!!!! I think you probably know me long enough to know I am generally not a big night-time snacker. So the following morning my FBG would be extra high because of late eating (and junk eating at that!).

So. Done with that experiment. If I ever wondered if intermittent fasting was right for me - it is NOT! LOL! Well, actually I have lots of times stopped eating early, let's say 4pm, and then "fasted" (if you can call it that) until the next morning. That seems to work nicely with my particular circadian rhythm. But in order to do that I need to eat nourishingly earlier in the day.

OK. So onward with the ultimate experiment: life. :-)

Friday! October 30th!!

129.6
FBG: 108mg/dL/103mg/dL (I have a new meter and I have been cross-checking it with my old (and trusty) meter and it is consistently 5mg/dL higher, so I'm not sure how to report my readings - the actual number or the number I think is probably correct.....

Eating
B: coffee w/milk
L: yogurt w/berries
D: steak
ANOTHER FLIPPING FAIL - some of those dang fun size candies that we have around for Halloween, then after skating I took all 4 of the boys I had with me to get McFlurries on the way home. Honestly, that part was pretty fun.
THEN I had 2 glasses of wine (that part is not exactly a fail, but in my mind I hadn't expected to drink tonight).

I tried a similar experiment too that did not work!! I don’t wake up super hungry & decided to try having only frozen blueberries which I really like but didn’t really feel like a meal. Physically I’d be satisfied but found that it left me mentally unsatisfied & feeling short changed which lead to worse eating later. Sometimes the best lessons come from the fails though :D

Wow that is so interesting! At least now you know. I experienced the same thing with IF. I could eat a TON and never feel satisfied. My stomach would be full but my brain wouldn't be.

I think your current rhythm works for you pretty well!

Sounds like your experiment was a success in terms of data-gathering, auto - even though it didn’t provide a long-term solution. Darn the capricious blood sugar, the illogical hunger signals, the contradictory energy levels! We’re all experimenting I guess. I think it’s natural to try to see patterns in the ways our bodies and minds work, and it’s frustrating when there seems to be some sort of missing link, some ‘factor X’ which makes for an unpredictable outcome. It’s human nature to try to understand. Onwards with this noble quest!

Hope your weekend goes well.

Interesting experiment, and you have learned some good information about your body and how your mind works as well. How have your videos been going? All done with your outdoor work for now?

Saturday, October 31!!!

126.8
FBG: 86mg/dL - whaddya know? That's perfectly normal.

Alene - videos going overall REALLY well. And I love the work. I just love it. I am a little behind on my "quota", but I am not overly stressed about that. Some days I push really hard; other days (like today), it just doesn't feel right. So I'm going with the flow of my natural productive times. And yes! Mostly done with outside work! I need to do a little weed-wacking along the yard border so that it doesn't bug me when I look out the window, and I need to do one quick weeding of the strawberry and blueberry bed (remember my yard is tiny so all this work will only take an hour or so).

Thanks, Octavia. Yes, I'm so noble in my questing. 8)

Pinkie - what's funny is that I NEVER have been remotely interested in fasting for any length of time. I think, now that I've done this "blood sugar-based fasting" I can see that my body, in this case at least, had inner wisdom that it's not for me. At least not at this point in my life.

LOL Jen, your experiment sounds kind of like the opposite of mine! I guess the take-home message is that we should try to eat according to our natural appetites, assuming that we have sleep and stress otherwise in a good place (since those things really mess with our natural appetites).

So last night had another great time roller skating with my boys and their friends. And guess who speaks to me in public now? Challenger14!!!!!!!!!!! He has ignored me in public since he was 7 years old. And the last few times we've been out together, he'll actually speak to me........ I'm gob-smacked. Is this for real? Will it last?

Weather looks clear but cold for tonight. Creator is going as the "Plague Doctor" (perfect for COVID, right?), and I'll be reusing my cozy kangaroo costume. We assume that there will be very few houses participating, but there are over 600 houses in our subdivision, so Creator and I just plan on walking a lot farther tonight. Fingers crossed that every 10th house is participating. :-)

Eating

Your Halloween sounds amazing!! I miss the days of walking the neighborhood with my kids!!

And you are so right about sleep/stress & for me boredom messing with our eating!! And also right about trusting our natural appetites. I think that’s when we struggle, when we try to change who we are at our core!!

Auto, I am just thrilled for you that Challenger is speaking to you in public! :D That is such a very hard age. Boys can be difficult in different ways that girls can. My teenage son and I had a couple years where I just felt like he didn't like me at all. It broke my heart. We have a very good relationship now, but at the time it made me cry. It sounds like a very fun time! Also awesome that your FBG is back in a great range!

Jen, I think you are really spot on about trying to change who we are at our core. It just doesn't work. I felt that way about trying to do IF. It seemed like such a good idea, and so many people seem to have great results and feel great, but not me! Even when it got easier physically, I just didn't feel good. I feel great physically and emotionally when I eat more frequently. I fought that too when trying to do NoS and make it work for me. I'm eating more often now but feel very good! We just can't try to squeeze ourselves into a box that doesn't fit us.

Hi Auto!

Wow sounds like a lot of fun with the skating! And I am glad Challenger is speaking to you in public! Did he speak to his dad in public at all or was it just you he didn't talk to? I would have a hard time with that.

I hope you and your family had a good Halloween!

Pinkie - Challenger has been like this with both my husband and me since he was about 7 years old - it was quite unusual of him. On a good day, I say he was "precocious".

Alene - my FBG has good days and bad days. Honestly, I haven't even been checking it this week so who knows where it's been at. But it does cheer me up on the good days! :-)

Well, at least Challenger was equal opportunity not speaking to a parent in public. :) That does sound kind of unusual. Kids are all so unique!
Yep, I have been struggling with productivity too. I can do plenty just sitting here but I don't want to. I think I am nearing fall burnout.

Sounds like another fun night of skating in store!

I’m yearning to go skating now! :)

Lovely to hear about Challenger and his public communication breakthrough!

Re. forcing ourselves into boxes, etc. - it strikes me that this is the fundamental challenge for most of us here on the forum: to work out what is really best for us. Perhaps regimes like No S are simply a stepping stone on the pathway to self-knowledge. For me, it’s so hard to define this happy place between my physical needs, my valid sensual desires, and my unhealthy, distorted cravings! But it strikes me we are all learning together and helping each other...which is fantastic.

well Alene - productivity isn't where it should be, but I did get a decent amount done yesterday.

Octavia - I'm grateful, grateful, grateful for the opportunity to skate with my boys. Challenger looks forward to it, and he has had me worried about his mental health a little lately. I know that at any time this freedom can be taken from us, and so I want to enjoy it while it is here.

ugh - late night fail of cheetos and doritos.

I finally have gotten a bit more productive. I finished 2 videos in 2 days - that is excellent for me. I am still behind (I am perpetually behind on this contract, which is so NOT like me). I think the root problem is that I agreed to making more videos than is realistically possible for my style. I like to do a lot of research (days and days, I'll admit, even on topics I'm already versed in), then condense everything down into a 10 minute synopsis of the most relevant info for healthcare students. So I agreed to something that is a faster pace than I can do and maintain my style. I will either always be behind (so NOT a happy place for me), or I can adjust and start taking a different approach or learn a different style. Neither solution is perfect; neither solution is horrible. Anyway, the good news is that I'm very happy with the last couple days of work. Tomorrow's topic - cyanosis.

Thanks Alene!

I'm in a funk again. I should reread my thread from 2020 because I feel like I have been somewhat regularly feeling down, avoiding my normal exercise, eating all the crap. I swear I'm a little depressed but fighting it tooth and nail. I have never in my life had this thought (which I have regularly these days): I need to keep it together and find a way forward for the sake of my kids. I need to stay positive.

Hey Auto, I am sorry you are having a hard time.

I know what you mean about feeling a little depressed. Its something I usually don't struggle with either. These are hard weird times. I am glad you got some videos done though. Staying positive and focusing on the good has really been helping me, although sometimes I find I just need to wallow in my negative feelings for a while. I started journaling in the morning for about 10 minutes, would something like that help?

Hi Auto sorry to hear about your recent funk. I’m right there with you. I’m having pandemic burnout I think. I’ve been fighting it the last few days but decided to just embrace it today and am curled up on the couch. Hoping tomorrow I wake up refreshed and ready to jump back into things. I get pushing through but sometimes we gotta rest and just feel all the feels! 💜

Thank you Linda! Hopefully we will all start to perk up a bit more. I'm taking my boys (well Creator for sure) and going to visit my parents and sister down in Oregon this weekend. They all want us to visit, but I'm concerned because we'll be staying in my parents' house. I certainly don't want to be the cause of them catching it. Ugh. But we are going, so everyone wish for the best.

Heading down to Oregon to visit my parents and sister. I'm a little concerned that my parents will catch COVID from me and die. But they want us to come see them. Have fun with your parents auto!! I feel like it’s almost “healthier” for our parents to get to see us & our kids than it is to hide from COVID, at least mentally!! The dr who we talked to after our son had it said you are much less likely to spread it with no symptoms so that makes me feel better about seeing my parents when we are all feeling good!!

Have fun auto! I totally understand your fears. Fingers crossed that everyone stays healthy! I worry every time I see my dad even with social distancing that I might accidentally give him or his wife COVID, but mental health and connection to our loved ones is so important too and it sounds like it will be a great trip.

Did you end up going on your just you trip or are you postponing that for now?

Yes, we went on the trip and had a very nice visit with my parents. Both of them claim they are entirely at peace about COVID and if they die from it, they are at peace with that too and feel they have lived good lives. Wow. They both have living will/directive to NOT be put on a ventilator (if it came to that).

I'm very glad we went because now our governor is locking us down again. After we went out to dinner, we worked on a puzzle. Yep. Must be lockdown again.

Auto: I’m glad you had a nice time!! My parents are the same way!! And my dad says that when you really look at the numbers that even if one/both of them did get chances are they’d be just fine. I feel like it’s keeping them a lot happier with that attitude than living in fear :D

Auto, Im so glad you had a good visit! I think I may have mentioned this before but my husband's parents have basically told us the same thing (minus the living will). They would rather live the rest of their life with their grandkids and family and have it possibly be shorter than live a longer life without. It is pretty powerful to hear though.

Soprano, Jen, Pinkie - thank you for voicing these things. Sometimes we feel all alone in this COVID craziness, despite it being all anyone talks about... there are serious quality of life questions that we need to consider. Soprano, I felt really good to know that my parents have thought these things through on their own, and are making their own decisions. That's the important thing, I feel - that we each get to decide on our own the risks we want to take.

Challenger14 is suffering. That boy loves sports and his friends, he's dealing with all that comes with being a 14 year old boy, and he doesn't have the perspective or well-developed coping skills of an adult. I'm worried about him.

I read an article yesterday that reported the infection fatality rate (IFR) for COVID-19. Data through July. IFR is currently estimated overall at .68%, obviously though the risk varies based on age and co-morbidities. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7524446/

Moving
Another great hike with Flowerpup. I think for Lockdown 2.0 I'm going to try and fit in a hike every single day.

OK also I am going to start a new DETERMINATION. That is - my boys need me to drag them back from the ledge. I will not stand by as my family falls apart mentally.
FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH #1: Today, this afternoon, these little stinkers are going to clean their rooms top to bottom. I have hidden their electronics and until they are done, no electronics. I think it will take us the rest of the day. As a reward, they'll get dinner and electronics. LOL. Now, perhaps you are thinking - how does cleaning their rooms help? Well, I believe that satisfaction comes from hard work and seeing a difference made. They are going to like it! Once their rooms are clean, we'll buy some special lights, decorations, and, for Challenger, a new dresser.
FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH #2: Beginning either this evening or tomorrow, I am forcing them to go hiking with me every day during Lockdown 2.0. This is huge, because they always complain and I let them stay home because hiking is MY relaxation and I don't like them to ruin it for me. But, now their mental health is on the line, and it's not about me. This is about them. They are coming. Whether they like it or not. I do not bring this type of hard-line with them very often (well, not ever really), and I KNOW it will be horribly hard on me. But this is their LIVES we are talking about. If there was ever a time for me to fight the good fight, it is now. I truly believe that the exercise and fresh air will be a salve to their souls (even if they don't recognize it right away).

Love the force to be reckoned with and you are so right.

Thanks Soprano. I should have added that I think a mad Challenger is better than an apathetic Challenger.....so even if he's furious with me, that's something better than this apathy he's sinking into.

Wednesday, November 18

Yesterday I got into a little bit of a text fight with a dear friend over COVID and lockdowns (because I had had too much to drink!! Never drink and text.....). I'm against them, in case you all can't already tell. Anyway, I felt terrible about the interaction. I am coming apart at the seams.

Eating

D: leftover steak & fettuccine
zero glasses of wine
multiple fails: ice cream, popcorn, chocolate covered almonds

Moving
Short walk with Flowerpup before work; afternoon hike planned with the boys; puzzle with hubby before bed (oh wait that's not moving but it felt nice to plan for it haha)

I know what you mean about your kids and apathy and needing to be a force to be reckoned with. I think that is a great idea to get their rooms cleaned and decorated and to have them come on your hikes! Sunshine, Vitamin D, endorphins, super excellent! Good luck!

I am sorry to hear about your text fight, I know people are hot on the subject of Covid and lockdowns. I hope you and your friend can build a peace bridge and work it out.

Thanks Pinkie. All's well with my friend. She and I are polar opposites on the political spectrum but always have been able to have good discussions and respect each other. It was my fault for drinking and texting for sure, but luckily when I apologized the next day she quickly forgave me and we moved on (I hope anyway). She is the one that completely lambasted me earlier on something so now we're even. Hahaha I am JK.
