There's snow business like...

Take a sledgehammer and wrap an old sweater around it. This is your "shovelglove." Every week day morning, set a timer for 14 minutes. Use the shovelglove to perform shoveling, butter churning, and wood chopping motions until the timer goes off. Stop. Rest on weekends and holidays. Baffled? Intrigued? Charmed? Discuss here.

Living in Australia we wouldn't know snow from clay [so to speak], but who knew someone has done a STUDY into snow shoveling as exercise!

Looks all too complicated - better just get a 16lb SH.

The good news is that 15 minutes of snow shoveling counts as moderate physical activity according to the 1996 Surgeon General's Report on Physical Activity and Health.
I wonder if 14 minutes cuts it :-)
One study determined that after only two minutes of shoveling, sedentary mens' heart rates rose to levels higher than those normally recommended during aerobic exercise.
Well, I guess my unscientific feeling that shovelglove is aerobic is accurate -- maybe too much so!

Thanks for the link!
