Nettee's daily check in

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Nettee's daily check in

Post by nettee » Mon Oct 03, 2016 5:51 am

Here I am on my first morning of No S take 3. I have started a rereading of the book. I have weighed in. I have put two S days in the habit cal for the beginning of October and I am ready to go.

Back tonight for my first success

I am starting no S again after a 4 month break and at my highest ever non pregnant weight of 12st 9 1/4 lb.

I have been very defeatist about everything but so pleased I am now doing something. I am looking forward to putting my rings back on and zipping up my coat with room to spare.

I do hope I can keep going beyond the two months this time - 2 previous attempts lasted just that long......

I would like to look nice at new year so 3 months to lose a stone or so.

Today went fine except for an absent minded grape which I am not holding against myself.

Thank you, Merry. I do hope so. Got though today without too much problem. Just quite hungry before supper - but it was all the better for it.

The book is making so much logical sense.

My Son had to bake tonight so I had a 5 min wobble and had a bit if mixture followed by a small amount of brownie this afternoon. It did not descend into a binge but I do have to count it as a failure but I won't colour it red.

Otherwise another good Day and mostly I am feeling pleased.

Back tomorrow for another success

To me, days like this show the success of No-S, even if the day isn't a green day. I think it's a huge success to not just dig in and eat a bunch of junk and throw caution to the wind--it's good, long-term thinking to get back on track with the plan, and it's good self-control. Way to go!

Thanks Merry, you are right - so many times in the past I have thought the day is red so I 'might as well' eat everything in sight. Quite proud of not doing that yesterday

Costa tuna melt panini for breakfast - yummy and should keep me going, feeling a bit naughty though even though I don't need to!

Success for Thursday

The scales are dropping like a stone this week despite Wednesday's wobble and yesterday's breakfast and fish and chips for supper. I sat in front of a bowl of Crisp's for an hour last night without cracking. Very proud of that one. :D

First week results: 4.75 lb down in 5 days. Hooray!

This is where I need to step back from the scales though - fluid weight gone and the slower losses begin.

First S day today. I plan to go back to my maximum of 5 s events per day and still no sweets. Hope it is not too much restriction - we will see how it goes.

Success for Friday and a good non excessive weekend. I did have a hot Chocolate yesterday which is not in my planning but hey hi it could have been worse. Back on the case for 5 N days this week.

Weight loss has been stalling as it does in week 2 but I weighed less this morning than last Monday and got to look to the positives.

Success for Friday - a whole green week which looks good on the habit cal

Leftovers for lunch yesterday which is always the best sort.

I now weigh 12st 1.5lb so have lost 7.75 lb or just over my first half stone. Three weeks in so I will reach the magic 21 days that Is in the book.

Great milestones but I realise that if I get too excited that is when things have gone wrong in the past. On holiday next week so just need to keep chipping away in a low key way.....

congrats on the weight loss! way to go...and I'm like you. I feel "skinny" when I lose some weight, and think "I've been at this for quite some time what a good girl I deserve a reward" and then start nibbling "just a bit" once in a while.

I am quite pleased that after a weekend of no discipline ( but no terrible excess) that I was back on plan today despite my holiday :-). I think I will need an S event supper tomorrow because a friend is coming for dinner and bringing pudding. If I can stick to three meals though with no snacks I will be very happy.

Hi Trace

I am away at the moment but I will try to remember to look at the make when I get back. I have had it for years (probably 11 or 12 years) and it is from the UK, as am I. It is a digital scale. Perhaps the quarter pounds are a bit meaningless and where madness lies but I am very used to it and always weigh first thing in the morning so feel it is fairly standardised (unless I have eaten lots of pasta the night before etc).

A whole lb does seem like quite a big unit for weight loss. But it must be a good feeling when the scales move :-)

I have had a quick look at Amazon and most of the digital scales do 0.2lb increments. I wonder if mine switch to 1/4 lb mode when measuring in stones?

Success today despite thinking about the profiteroles in my fridge. An S event last night when I went out for supper which was a birthday present. Did fine the rest of the day though and had cheese instead of sweet pudding.

The weekend starts tomorrow- I would loved to stick to no sweets but do worry for the profiteroles once it is not an N day.

Oh dear. A proper bingy S day yesterday - all sorts of chocolate and crisps all day so that I felt quite sick. Hopefully it is out of my system for a bit. I hadn't done that since my restart. Will go for a no sugar some snacks day today I think.

No scales this week so I have no idea how I am doing in that way. Will find out properly on Monday morning. I think that I have done quite well for a holiday in general though. .

That experience of actually feeling sick after chocolate/crisps etc has proved to be quite a restrainer for me now. I guess it's because we are off those things for 5 days, our bodies actually get unaccustomed to them! No bad thing, eh?! I've been toying with the idea of only having sweet things on Saturdays - and keeping Sunday to a non-sugar snack day.

That sounds like a good plan Rawcookie.

I upset my husband just after my last post as he had gone out and bought an S day treat breakfast for us of sweet pastries. Maybe I should have gone with it.

Anyway the scales have been kind and I am at an all time low of 12 st 1.5 lb this morning. Quite pleased not to have gained after a week away.

Success for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Pizza lunch at work yesterday and I had my plateful and kept going.

I was quite hungry this afternoon - I think my lunch was a bit small but I was fine waiting for supper time.

There is a fireworks night event tomorrow and I am not certain how much temptation there will be. I believe it is a hog roast for supper which should be enough of a treat to keep me going.

Thanks Rawcookie, the fireworks were dry thank goodness over here in Devon. Hope yours were too last night. I think the rain avoided peak times where we are :-)

Success for Friday with just the hog roast bap for supper. So a 'perfect' week. I didn't feel like I would need to go too mad yesterday but I did end up eating a lot of crisps. Maybe it is good as a reminder of what happens without the rules and why N days are so effective. Another S day to navigate today.

Success for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday!

I have been a bit quiet on here this week because I have been busy or maybe because the habits are all coming a bit more easily at the moment. I am not at all sure that this will last though - it does feel safer to post daily.

I have a children's birthday party this morning. Tricky on an S day. I need to come up with a plan. Maybe one non sweet snack chosen very carefully as a maximum at the party......

Don't let it throw you. I have lots of Mondays that stay static like that, or sometimes even go up a bit, but over time you'll see it go down. Usually in the course of a month, I'll have a couple about the same, and a couple go down--it can fluctuate. I've had 5-week plateaus in the past too, where lost and gained the same pounds over and over--and then suddenly it will start to go down again. This is why it's so important to focus on habit and not worry about scale readings (or take them in stride). Habit is all we can control, really. Hang in there!

Thanks Merry - you are so right. It is easy to be put off

I did go back on to it for the rest of the week which I am very pleased about as I was away at a conference and the were giving away chocolate. Two years ago I broke my quitting sugar plan at the same conference so quite proud of my progress. A medium to high level S day yesterday. The scales are looking ok though - still hovering around the same despite everything.

Success for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Still weighing 11 something and a new low this morning of 11st 12.5lb. Nearly 11lb down.

I am considering doing a testimonial for 10 lb lost in just under 2 months but feel a bit of a fraud because I weigh more than when I started just over a year ago. Also trying not to think too hard about milestones but keep things low key so that I don't fall off the wagon. Having said that my habit cal is looking lovely for November. One red and just three greens to go for next week.

My trousers are getting a bit big too now which is a good feeling.

Food wise I have been having pitta bread with brie and red peppers for breakfast this week. Quick and filling. lunches from the supermarket with usually a sandwich and a cheesy salad (feta or mozzarella) no crisps - sometimes fruit and yoghurt. Good hearty supper in the evening. Coping ok with the gaps between meals. It is S days that are the hardest - getting a treat in without going too mad!

Success for yesterday

A bit of a wilder weekend than I would have liked. It is good that I can reign it back in for the weekdays. I was quite hungry and tempted yeaterday but hung on in there.

Thanks Rawcookie

Success for Tuesday. Wednesday good so far. I am fast approaching the 2 month mark which is as far as I have got before. It doesn't feel like it is about to go wrong so I will just keep going and ignore the milestone as best I can - despite posting about it now

Well done! It is tempting to look ahead at those bigger milestones but like you, that sometimes trips me up so I try to focus on the smaller ones. Hang in there!

Thanks Amy, you are so right.

Success for Wednesday and November has only one red mark on the habitcal- yay!

December is more tricky but I will plan out my nws day's carefully and it should be fine.

Your posts are interesting to read. I'm in my first week, but have a weekend away starting from tomorrow, which is traditionally focused on wine, crisps and other goodies. I'm not planning on being an angel instead, but am concerned how easily I may fall back into the snack hole. You give me hope!

Way to go on November, Nettee!

The nice thing about December this year is that the major holidays all fall on a weekend, so in my mind, it makes it easier not to have a wild and crazy month full of NWS days.

Aww thanks guys - hope your weekend went ok Mimi.

I had another slightly crazy one with puddings and biscuits but got bank on board yesterday for a success

I was out on Friday night for a Christmas party and had three courses but I did have cheese instead of pudding that evening and did fine until the party so have put down a yellow on my habitcal.

Success today.

I have relaxed about S days and am not putting any restrictions on them but wonder if I should go back to no sugar or 5 's events'. If I relax enough perhaps I will calm down on the madness naturally. I did have quite a bit of a large chocolate bar on Sunday but on the bright side there is some left in the fridge. I do think the sugar makes Monday and Tuesday harder.

I experienced that for awhile (sugar making Monday harder), but that seemed to even out after awhile. I actually find I look forward to Mondays most weeks now! I miss the structure.

Yes I know what you mean about looking forward to the structure of N days. It is simpler to just know that I can't snack than the decide if something is worth an S every time.

Success for Thursday. Back at my lowest weight so far (11st 11.5lb) with a day to go before the weekend. Hoping for a new low tomorrow but I am now off work for just over a week so things do get trickier.

All I can do is stick to the rules..... We have a Saturday night Christmas party this week but not many other plans for the weekend.

Success for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday!

I have looked ahead and filled in S days for the rest of the month on my Habit cal with just Friday 30th as a NWS day because we are going away that day for a few nights for the new year. Christmas Eve and Christmas day are at the weekend anyway and I don't think I need to take the 26th and 27th bank holidays as S days.

I have had a reasonable week - worst thing was probably and indian takeaway on Thursday evening. I have stuck to the rules. The scales are not being very kind though - something about going to work does help with that and I have been at home. So fingers crossed for next week.

I am intending to have the odd mince pie over the weekend as I love them and have not had a single one yet. There is a carol service tomorrow where I know they will be offered so I am looking forward to that as an S event.

Success

I have stocked up on Christmas nibbles and am trying to suss out when to eat them. Christmas Eve might be best as it is a Saturday. I am imagining a relaxed Boxing Day with left overs and nibbles but did want that to be an N day in my original plan. Maybe I could make a plateful if nibbles at a time....

All very tempting

I've decided to mark Boxing Day as an NWS day - because I KNOW there will be things left over that won't keep until the following Saturday - and I KNOW I'll want to eat them!!!!

Another 1/4 lb down this morning 8)

Can't weigh in tomorrow and then it will be Christmas etc so probably my low for the year is 11st 10.5 lb which is 12.75lb off in just under three months. Not bad.

I am not writing off the end of the year though. I still have 5 more greens to put on my habitcal.....

Success for yesterday - December is looking good with just 2 nws days and no red days. My weight is up 2.5 lb since last week with Christmas and leftovers (eaten at meal times!) etc.

Just about to go to a hotel for three nights and am on S days for three days now. Back on it on 2nd January with an N day breakfast in the hotel before checkout.

Hope you all enjoy the New Year Celebrations.

Happy New Year! We had a lovely trip and I made the most of my S days. Today's N day is going fine so far and I am feeling positive for 2017.

My next goal is to have stuck with it and be under 11 1/2 st for our skiing trip in April. It would be great to fit into my sallopettes and have a good weight to tell the ski hire people. Maybe I also could be a bit fitter by then with the help of my activity tracker and 7 min work out app.

Really enjoyed supper tonight - actifry chips, spicy broccoli and chicken marinated in soy sauce, lime juice, chilli and a bit of honey (I think just within the no S rules)

Pantomime tomorrow - need to avoid the ice cream at the interval temptation.

Failure

We decided to make the ice cream we didn't get round to at a Christmas before the cream went off and that lead to using the egg whites to make meringue and lots of spoon licking &#128127;

I have been reading about Dr Xand Van Tulleken's diet in the daily mail.

Some good tips - eat cheese - it is filling, avoid 50:50 fat and sugar - it is addictive, avoid alcohol - it makes you eat.

He is suggesting 1, 2 or 3 meals a day plus one snack if necessary and calorie counting with low carbs also. Lots of cooking from scratch.

I am sure it would work but perhaps too much like hard work to stick to forever - he says he has done 6 years though.

A Sunday afternoon binge here with meringue, cheese, bread, crackers etc. I wish I wouldn't - It always seems to be the Sunday afternoon of the weekend when this happens. maybe it is related to the bits and pieces of sugar I have carefully chosen to have before that time which pushes me over the edge - Saturdays pavlova, toast and jam for Breakfast on Sunday and a after lunch biscuit on Sunday. Or maybe it is a last hurrah before 5 more N days.

I am wondering when I will get my page 2 on here and don't want to start it with something negative. I suppose I could always edit if that happened.....

Off we go again today. :D

Success

I cooked something out of a diet in a newspaper for lunch - courgette and carrot fritters. They were ok, I didn't like the turmeric and yoghurt mixture to go with it though. Also made sure I had lots of salad, extra carbs in the form of pitta bread and a cracker and extra protein in the form of cheese and some fish with it so I felt nicely full &#128521;
