Robin's Check-In
Hi everyone. I'm new to No S. I was chugging along pretty good for almost two weeks and then had a couple of monumental red days. I thought I'd make a commitment to report on red days only here.
I have been doing really well on No S and losing some weight. However, last week I went on vacation. We took the RV out west to Utah and Colorado. I did well most of the trip. But the last days riding in an RV back home did me in. I had a craving for a snack and there wasn't access to the normal things I use to distract myself when that happens and finally I gave in. For whatever reason, after I give in once it feels really, really hard to get back on track. I end up breaking all the rules. For two days. But today I'm getting back on track.

Re: Robin's Check-In
Welcome Robin!
As someone that has left No S and come back since 2010, I have to say that just checking in here every day whether or not you succeed or "fail" makes a huge difference! I hope to see you around

Thanks for all the support and encouragement!
Friday was a red day for me. I ended up mindlessly going back and snacking from the pantry after dinner. It's an old habit, and I fell into it again. I'm finding that it's very helpful to me to have a clear and to a meal - leave the kitchen, maybe go for a walk. Otherwise I hang around in the kitchen and eventually end up eating again.

Re: Robin's Check-In
Developing a new habit of a short walk after dinner sounds like it could be great for you!
Also, when I was first trying to quit drinking wine, I would leave the kitchen - take a bath or a walk, get going on laundry, etc. Staying away from the kitchen/couch area was imperative.
Good luck finding a systematic approach to handle those evening hours.

Re: Robin's Check-In
I had the smallest slip up today but I think I need to call it a red day. After dinner I convinced myself that "A couple of bites won't matter" and eating a few bites of a leftover dinner roll. I didn't do the walk right after dinner! I think that would help a lot. I'm doing it tomorrow.
Re: Robin's Check-In
I took the dog out for a walk right after dinner yesterday and it worked really well. By the time we got back I was out of eating mode.

Re: Robin's Check-In
Today is a red day for me. I ate lunch and I'm not even sure what happened, but I found myself going back after lunch to snack on a bunch of stuff. I've been doing really well, but today I just felt - I don't know - off, I suppose. A little tired, a little stressed, and I just found myself giving in. Not sure why. I think next time I feel the urge to continue eating after lunch, I need a strategy for something that will distract me. Maybe go listen to 10 minutes of a podcast, or watch a funny video.

Good idea to find a replacement device. If you can go on a walk (while listening to that podcast), all the better. Getting away from the food is the best.
Maybe have a piece of gum to signal "lunch is over."

Re: Robin's Check-In
I actually do this! I can only have one piece of gum a day because the artificial sweetener messes with my stomach otherwise, and I pick right after lunch to have it. I find it to be really helpful, as long as its spearmint or something and not something sweet that makes me hungry again.automatedeating wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 9:42 pm

Robin you are doing great, we all slip up. The thing is to learn from it, on its own it won't cause a weight problem it is what you do afterwards that matters.
