walking and weather

Post by oolala53 » Sat Feb 18, 2017 3:07 am

I asked Reinhard about how often weather had stopped him from walking to work and he said it hadn't. Here in SoCal today, rain was predicted, but it was mostly just windy until about an hour ago. So, by golly, I put on a scarf and a coat, hung my umbrella on my arm, and walked to a local restaurant for lunch. (Day off for long weekend.) It's still only 58 deg. here, and by only I mean not cold. So it was actually warmer when I went walking, but it was so overcast and windy I had assumed it was colder out. (And I have concrete floors, which also connote cold. )

But anyway, I did it. A measly 3,000-ish steps, but more than if I hadn't gone. Not sure I would do it in the rain. But despite our higher rainfall this year, it really is not an issue enough to be a good excuse.

Holy moly, it's been nearly a year since I posted this. Have had some hip problems that had me cautious but walking seems not to make things worse. Yet I'm still not regular. We've had more rain than usual. And more cold, by our standards. I feel like a wimp saying that when I know an old friend in Madison will put on her coat and go out in 25-degree weather. Oh, well.

Maybe add a year to your estimate? Last two days here in Pa. 7 and 10 degrees F. in the morning. I skipped out on 7 mainly because of the wind chill.

You're right. I was a year off!

It's 75 degrees out and I'm STILL not going for a walk. Criminal!

Just got back and it was a toasty 28 F-but no wind. After all the rain a few days back, you need ice skates in some areas.
