Hello Allison!

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

I have definitely been sliding this week. I was fasting and going low carb, and all was going well. Then I started having carbs again and the cycle has started all over again. I keep tasting kids' dinner and/or tasting someone's ice cream (even though I thought I had pushed past that phase).

So starting tomorrow, I am reinstituting low carb and having an eating window from 11 to 3. I'll just have to work my way back to Omad. Entirely not eating when the kids get home is just not working. So possibly making an official 4hr. window and no breakfast is the answer.

AND ONLY ONE SDAY. Will take a family vote to decide which one.

Also I may write my meals here for accountability until I get back into the groove.

Today 3 big olives at breakfast, a gigantic salad/chicken kabob at Zoe's kitchen, 3 hf's nuts for dinner--did not eat the tater tots, but sampled the oreo ice cream

Hang in there. I like the sound of your newfound determination.

But I was confused by your description of your new plan -- only one day of pure fasting? Only one day of OMAD?

Do you gain with carbs? Could you do carb cycling with some days all the carbs and other days very low carb? It’s supposed to be effective.

I think it takes awhile to find a window that’s both sustainable and leads to meeting our goals but you’ll get there. I’m still figuring it out as well.

Hope tomorrow goes well!

I did do OMAD today and had a taco salad. Not the lowest in carbs but still happy to be working my resistance muscle out again!
I kind of am carb cycling in that I allow any kind of food on S days.
By the way, thank you Linda for pointing me to 6 Miles to Supper. I absolutely LOVE Kayla!! I even ordered a new fitbit :D Honestly I would like to use her plan to a tee.

Oh I’m so glad you are enjoying her videoed. She’s great. I tried following her plan but we are horrible and don’t really do a sit down dinner together so I just gave myself a 2 hr window during the week instead. Also I tried taking a day off completely but it did not go well. I now remember why S days never worked for me.

I decided to do 19/5 on the weekends instead and see how that goes. I’m also doing her 7 day weight average and that’s really helped me to keep everything in perspective.

Well it was a great green weekend. I got my fitbit, put 10k on it, monitored calories on Myfitnesspal, fasted through breakfast and had a modest 2 meals.
I used to be crazed with my fitbit, but I didn't remember how much so. All my records from 2011 to 2014 were still on account. And my weight charts from before I got pg with #6... All mid 130s. Geez I'd kill to see numbers like those again (even though at the time I know I was only looking for the 120s, sad 😔 just can never be satisfied)!
We're still getting rained on so no outdoor walking through tomorrow, but I'm excited that my fitbit is actually making me look forward to it.

So true and human of us that our "satisfaction" is a moving target, always relative to where we currently are.....one of the great mysteries and struggles of life!

And yeah -- hope you weathered the storm alright!!

No school today actually. Our main road is impassable and the creek behind our house is now a giant lake. It's pretty crazy because we really didn't get that much rain compared to most of the state. The kids are loving life--this is better than getting out for a snow storm! I don't think we've ever missed 2 days of school for rain in my lifetime!

Anyway I have locked myself into OMAD very early on today. I had a massive low carb breakfast consisting of 3 jumbo eggs, 3 slices cheese, 4 thick-cut p of bacon, cooked in butter, coffee with cream. I'm stuffed and will not be putting another thing in my mouth today.

Nicely stated automatedeating--- my target is generally flying out of control!

I'm going to try an experiment from now through next month. I've usually just been a vanilla No S (for about 4 years) but I find that I most always get a red dot the day my husband gets home from a trip. He usually works weekends and I do my best restrictions when he's not home. So because I get his schedule a month ahead of time, I can plan ahead and put my yellow/s days on his arrival times. And if he's off on the weekends, I'll do that instead. Basically I'm shooting for one Sday a week and occasionally 2.

I'm doing a fast/fat fast. Since the donuts yesterday, I had 4 olives last night and am now having a "lunch" of 3/4 cup pecans. Have a nasty cold so kind of unmotivated to get my 10k on fitbit. Actually I'm having the laziest day of my life thus far...hubby on trip and kids at school. I brought the computer to bed and am still hanging here at 10:30am!!!

Update: Went and took a 3 mile walk in park. But then ruined it by eating kids' leftover pizza, cookie and teddy grahams

2nd update :walked a 2 mile walk in the evening while ds2 had football practice. Then bought him Wendy's. I had a coupon expiring tomorrow for a burger with purchase. I got it just because it was free and gave it to ds1.... Of course he took one bite and I'm sure we can all guess where the rest of it went... Ugh what is with me lately?

So nice that you had some time to yourself + a walk in the park!

Tough about the kids' junk food. I don't have nearly as many kids as you, and mine are out of the toddler teddy graham age, but I have noticed that I no longer even register their junky food as potential "food". Then right when I'm so proud of myself, I think, omg - I let them eat that?

The rest of my week has been embarrassingly red. 3 of my kid's birthdays, my granddaughter's and best friend's are ALL between the 25th and 29th!!! So technically I guess it could be very yellow.
On a good note, I've been more "happy" eating than stress eating.
This is the first day I haven't gotten 10k on the Fitbit, but my birthday son had his football game, a major 2-hour meltdown, and by the time I got home, (at 7:30) it just was not happening.
Yesterday during his practice, I walked 3 miles in the neighborhood beside his field and the day before I walked 3 1/2 in my neighborhood. I'm really getting into this fitbit. Of course it's making me obsess on my lack of sleep, which generally runs about 3 hours a night.
I chaperoned at my fifth grader's field trip, went to lunch with my kindergartener, and volunteered for some things at school. Things are going pretty well.
I'm going to fast tomorrow. I haven't been so good at it this week, but hubby leaves for a 4 day trip, only has 2 days off, and leaves for another 4 day so I should be able to get some good fasting in there. The scale is definitely on the way up from all the eating this week.
Oh and we finally got the coroner's report/toxicology on my sister (who died at Christmas). It was a mix of alcohol, pain pills and amphetamines. COD was listed as pulmonary edema. It sounds bad, but I really really wanted to know and I can't explain but glad (?) it wasn't suicide. It happened just 5 months after my daughter's suicide so I was mad at my sister if she purposely did this to my family again. Probably sounds wrong or weird but just how I feel.

Since I started Fitbit, it all works more smoothly to input calories into My Fitness Pal, which then integrates with Map My Walk. Anyway this is really starting to be a big step in the wrong direction of counting my calories again (as I did for 30+ years).
I'm not sure what to do, as I love the in-depth picture it gives me and makes me motivated to get my steps in.
However, with this, I have also stopped my 30 minutes of cardio on my M5 or treadclimber because the fitbit doesn't register the steps. So that's yet another step in the wrong direction.
OMAD was working great for me until I starting counting every single ingredient on my greek salad. Now I just have to see if I can work up to deleting it!

Update: No I just can't! I got on to see if I could do it, and with all my yardwork today and lack of eating...when I said complete diary, it said if every day were like today, you'd weigh 143 lbs in 5 weeks. That's so motivating!!

I personally can’t count calories or anything else. It makes me crazy. And it also isn’t sustainable for most people. Remember that fasting works differently and it’s all about your insulin not calories. Your Fitbit doesn’t know you’re fasting and can’t take that into account.

Anyway, do what works for you but if it starts to make you crazy, know there’s another way! (I rather shorten my window than count calories. )

Thank you!
I am pleased to say I've been fasting for 33 hours now!! Actually the easiest one I've done so far. I stayed busy all day yesterday and got a 3 1/2 mile walk in, plus 20 minutes on the Max Trainer (m5 bowflex). Pulled some weeds, mopped the first floor and got 13k tips on my Fitbit.
Very unusual for a Sunday, which is typically my lazy day. Kids are off to school and I don't want to be alone in the house with nothing to do but eat. I may go find a big neighborhood to walk.

made it 40 hours, then omad :D
