Starting today: Question about tea

Post by sharon227 » Fri May 18, 2018 12:22 pm

Hi all. My doctor recommended I check out No S, and as I was reading last night, I realized HOLY COW I DO A LOT OF SNACKING. It's more like constant grazing and foraging and popping things in my mouth. I've started No S today! I'm wondering whether having just tea (no milk or sugar) mid-afternoon should be OK and count as drinking like water. Or is that a crutch I shouldn't use, to sit down at the table and consume something between meals, even if it's a 0-calorie beverage that's not water? Advice? Thanks all.

Hi there. As long as the beverage isn't a sweet (like a frappuccino from Starbucks, for example), it's allowed between meals. If you're really struggling to make it to your next meal, even a non-sweet caloric drink, like a glass of milk, an unsweetened latte, or similar, is okay.

I drink tea quite often (I drink it plain, with no sweeteners) and find that it can help get me through to the next meal or just provide a nice after-dinner treat if it's one of my favorite flavors. I also drink quite a bit of flavored seltzer too. Tea is fine, even if you add a little bit of milk or sugar to it.

Thanks very much. I think this will help a lot. Enjoying tea - or as you say, some chilled seltzer in a pretty glass - should help me if the time between meals starts feeling too long!

I'm so enthusiastic about starting this. I've long felt that how I eat is as important as what I eat, but I was never able to articulate a plan beyond "slow down and pay attention to your food." Which is kind of vague. This makes so much sense as a way to make sure I pay attention and savor my meals and don't just mindlessly graze.

Thank you so much for the welcome. What a great community to go along with a great plan.

I truly didn't realize how much I was snacking/grazing until I started this. It's going to be interesting as I work through making the change. I'm already looking forward to my S-day afternoon snack and it's been one day of no snacking. But I really really like the idea of keeping my eating to mealtime. It feels so much more "civilized" than popping things in my mouth every time I'm in the kitchen. Even if those "things" are healthy.

Welcome! Here's a link to the page that explains the basics of the diet. The podcasts tell a little more about the record keeping. Have fun enjoying your meals when you haven't snacked!
