Take a sledgehammer and wrap an old sweater around it. This is your "shovelglove." Every week day morning, set a timer for 14 minutes. Use the shovelglove to perform shoveling, butter churning, and wood chopping motions until the timer goes off. Stop. Rest on weekends and holidays. Baffled? Intrigued? Charmed? Discuss here.

Friends, Shovelers, Countrymen,

I read this article in today's on-line Washington Post

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 01672.html

with great astonishment that this movement of ours slipped below Ms. Bey's radar. The options described, while crafty and occasionally innovative, do nothing to match the versatility, frugality, and schedualistic insignificance of shovelgloving. If we can garner the attention of Steve Freakin' Levitt, I would think that the WP would be savvy enough to follow suit.

So I urge you,
Shovelglove Nation...

Sledgeheads...

Fellowship of the Country-Strong...

(Fourteen)Minutemen or Minutepersons...

Church of Reinhard, LDS (Latter Day Shovelers)

To get on the e-horn by e-mailing move[at]washpost.com and spread the message of Shovelglove. Save the uninitiated from a Martha Stewartish digression into this small array of craft projects, and discover where the workout really gets going.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention -- and the rousing call to arms.

I was inspired to take the unusually assertive step of emailing the author.
