Thanks for the congratulations Debs

I was sure I had seen the term "nossers" somewhere on one of the boards, but after reading my way through the whole lot in a week, I was a bit bamboozled and when Dave queried the term, I just figured it was my daft brain coming up with nonsense. Sorry to have taken the credit for your name - I think it is cool by the way, thus my poached usage of it - lol.

Have a great day.

Today is day 84 (21,42,63,84) which means it's 21x4.

Still plugging away, which is a testament to the sustainability of this program. This is by far the longest I've ever stuck to a diet or a regular execise routine, with the fewest slipups.

Once again, Reinhard, I take my hat off to your elegantly simple insights with Everyday Systems. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You have given me powerful tools to wield....

I've made it 21 days weighing in this morning with a 3 lb weight loss. I followed the basic premise of the plan, not eating snacks, seconds or sweets on No S days. I did not try to change what I normally ate because I didn't want this to feel like a diet. I'm pleased with the three pound weight loss considering that I never went hungry, never felt weak and was never deprived. Thanks Reinhard for sharing this. I like the structure but yet the simplicity of the plan. It's very livable.

For my next 21 days I hope to add more exercise and will try to eat healthier by adding more fruits and veggies. See you all then.

Congrats Daisy!!!!!!
You managed to not be deprived, you learned a lot, you toughed out a couple of weeks which tested you, sanded and stained a table, *and* lost three pounds to boot!!!
Sounds like a great big success!!!
I'm happy for you Very Happy

This year's homeschool year began 21 days ago today. I have had a morning snack every school day for the past 15 years, but, as of today, it is conquered.

Three cheers for the No-S Diet!!!

Congratulations and welcome, Blue Daisy. A pound a week, no pain and suffering, is very respectable rate. Looking forward to round 2.

Congratulations again, Jan. You're our rock.

Hello again. That's me finished 2 three-week stints. And now for the grand unveiling....(Trumpet fanfare)

3lbs lost in the last 21 days for a grand total of 9lbs in 6 weeks!!

That's very respectable and I am quite overjoyed by it.

I haven't SG'd in the last three weeks, so I wonder if that has affected the weight loss in any way? I am not sure if it helped or hindered the process (muscle gained opposed to calories consumed).

For the first three weeks I SG'd irregularly and lost 2lbs per week.

...but that was the start of it all, and it always slows down after a bit...

Well never mind!! It's getting far too complicated, and Nossing is meant to be easy on the brain!

Thanks again Reinhard. No S is a fantastic little principle that has far reaching benefits. I've also found UR to be a great benefit, and found it very easy to perform this time around (given that I have to walk to and from the bus stop each N Day)

See y'all in another 21 days. Cool

Congratulations, Dave. I wouldn't wrack my brains too much about why more comes off one week than another. Big picture, with these behaviors, you'll do fine. I've got much more muscle now than I ever had and I'm also 40 pounds lighter. It's a little sickening to think how many pounds of fat I must have been carrying around.

I cannot believe that I am 42 days down already - where did the last six weeks go? I still feel like I have been doing this all my life, it is so normal and natural with no stress. It definitely gets easier as you go.

I have still not lost any weight as per the scale, but I definitely feel better and my clothing is fitting better. I am starting to see a little muscle definition so that explains the scale not moving.

I am looking forward to the rest of my life with no stress about food.

Reinhard thanks again for a great plan.

Count me in for the 21-day club as of this past Sunday, 2005-10-09. I've had varying degrees of success, but no failures, since I began counting the days. My only failures (as seen in my daily log) related to my personal goals of walking 2 miles minimum a day, which I failed to do on only a couple occasions, but my No-S'ing has been stuck to as much as possible for the past 3 weeks.

Look forward to seeing all of you in another 21 days when I do it again! Thanks for all the support from everyone, and thank you Reinhard for the tools and the inspiration to use them for maximum benefit. I not only appreciate these systems, I preach about them to anyone who is interested. I love when people ask me what I've been doing to lose the weight, or why I'm getting stronger, or what the hell am I doing with that sweater-wrapped sledgehammer leaning against the desk next to my computer and then to be able to tell them about your systems. I figure if I convert even a few people and it makes a difference to them like it has for me then it will be well worth my effort. (and if they won't convert I will crush them all beneath the might of my glorious sledge!)

Keep up the good work everyone, and I'll try to do the same!

Hi everyone,

This is just a short post to say that I've finally gotten to the point where this is mostly habit now. It's taken me a bit longer than some, and I'm definately not a 'perfect score', but funny stuff is rare and correct NoS and regular Shovelglove habits are the norm these days.

I shall continue to post in my daily checkin, cos I find it helpful to do so.

Thanks to everyone here for your helpful comments and friendly advice. Especial thanks to Reinhard for coming up with such a sane and rational collection of everyday systems and, more importantly, for sharing them with us all.

C.

Carolejo,

This is great news, congratulations!

Most people won't be "perfect scorers." There's no shame in that, on the contrary. It's a great inspiration to see people struggle and overcome.

Hi Sister Michelle! Good for you!!!!!!
I will try my hardest to stay away.. Though I did eat three slices of grapefruit and two handfulls of almonds last night.. Twisted Evil
Can't lie to a nun!!!
Still I am considering the day a 95% success...
So I'm counting it!
I didn't fridge raid for several weeks now..
But I created a great deterrent which I hope to post on my thread soon..
Way better than Zeul and Cerebrus! LOL...

Don't forget that we have 6 days included in the 21 days on habit challenge which are S days...
I messed that up about four times before I realized it, thanks to Reinhard explaining it to me...
Razz
Those weekend breaks make it much easier!

ps.. I did twenty one days for the first time in August last year.. This is a refresher course for my habits!
Start 2006 off with a bang!!!

So...Let's do this thing!!!
Peace and Love,
Cool Deb

Hi all,

I hit 21 days over the weekend.

I've lost around 3 lbs., but I'm most impressed with the little things--the habit building, the enhanced food enjoyment, etc.

Feeling good and keeping on....

thanks,

Hey, I'm IN! Made it through day 21 today...sipping on my decaf. to celebrate. Looking back, it was not easy, but I am so glad I have found this new way of eating. Woohoo!!! Like David, I was down three but due to some strange water weight mystery, I am up all three this morning. I am disappointed, but not discouraged and plan to CARRY ON!!!

Hi guys
I am back - I am counting last year as the practice runs - Laughing Laughing Laughing

On the 29/01/06 I scored my first set of 21 days for NoS for the rest of my life and I am well on my way for the second set.

NoS is the best thing I have ever found for bringing food under my control rather than me under it's control. I still have the odd oops! but on the whole I am eating healthier, feeling better and confident that I have established a health way of life for myself.

Practice runs and grounds for whining notwithstanding, this is an accomplishment -- it fact, it's more of an accomplishments because of these difficulties.

Forgot to Post: Last Monday marked my second set of 21 successful days on No S!

Weight loss is negligent, but commitment is high. Although my meals seem very reasonable and there has been no funny business, my weight fluctuates between the same 1-2 pounds I lost the first week. I go in spurts of forgetting to drink the water in sufficient amounts, so that is something I can easily work on. I am walking about 2 miles most days.

On to the Triple Crown!! MJ

Double welcome, schmiddtty.

We'll sort out that tiny detail of the negligible weight loss Smile.

With your high commitment and great habits, it should just take the tiniest tweak. Hope something posted in the "general discussion" forum helps.

Hello Peoples!

I've finally managed to do a second block 21 days straight on habit WITHOUT FALLING OFF THE WAGGON ONCE IN THAT WHOLE TIME!!

This is a huge thing for me. I've been following this way of eating now for more than 7 months with much more success than failure, but for some reason can't seem to be perfectly good the whole time, and Christmas..?! That was like a 2 week eating fest! My birthday at the start of last month - another week of pigging out! This is now the longest time I've ever stuck to it without cheating. It's very slow, but I've still lost a ton of weight in that time though - in the region of 20 lbs and still going down. As I refused to weigh myself this week, I can't tell you exactly what I weigh at the moment, but it's definately in the region of 87kg, possibly even lower, and I started out at 96kg. Much more importantly, I'm now down 2 whole clothing sizes! So, despite NOT being a textbook poster-child of good dietary behaviour, I'm very happy about the results. Even when I break the diet, I still don't seem to eat as much, or as much junk even, as I used to pre-NoS.

So, there you are. I'm STILL HERE.
Very Happy
C.

Carolejo,

This is fantastic. Thanks so much for posting it here. This is very impressive on several levels: the weight loss, the fact that you've stuck with no-s through some turbulent times, and that many rounds into a tough fight you can deliver a knockout punch like this. Congratulations!

Well, I'm finally here! 21 days without any failures in the whole time. This is a major accomplishment for me and it feels great. Now to start on the next 21. I really like this plan and I would reccommend it to anyone

Made it today. First 21. I am really very proud because this is the first attempt at any diet that has lasted this long in many years. Thank you Reinhard for coming up with the idea and the time you take to make it accessible to all of us for free!! You are an awesome dude!! One of my rewards is going to be a No S coffee mug (or in my case, tea mug). Thank you too, to all of you who offered support. You are the greatest. And now I agree with Redwinger, on to the next 21.

Congratulations Sue!!!!!
It must be a great feeling!!!!
NoS just gets better and easier with practice and as long as you don't just drop out for weeks completely, even the minor screwups won't hurt your long term success!

I am happy for you!!!
(See you here in two more weeks! Wink )

Peace and Love,
Cool Deb

Hello everybody Smile

I made it to the 21 days, I am in the club!

For the first time in a very very long time, I am not obsessing about food, and it feels so great. And I have lost 7 pounds. This is so cool, I can't believe that I am actually looking forward to doing a "diet" for many months and years to come.

Welcome, Jennifer! Congratulations.

I think I'm at about my 5th year anniversary now, and it's only gotten easier and more pleasant. I'd barely think about it at all if it weren't to encourage others.

Hello everyone!

I made it in the club.

It's a good feeling. I am very glad to join you here.

This was harder than I expected it to be, but also much more rewarding. It seems longer than just 21 days.

So thanks from me to our host reinhard and everyone in the community here!

Congratulations, Last Martian! You bounced back from that one laconic "failure" in your log like it was nothing at all. Very impressive! The "double digits" days on habit goal you mention there is a very ambitious milestone, so feel free to check in again here before then.

Thanks. Very Happy

Truth is, I was incredibly, royally annoyed at myself over that failure. I was basically sulking something fierce when I made that entry.

This doesn't really make sense, but it was actually more upsetting to me because it was a fairly minor transgression. If I break the rules I should at least get some fun out of it. Twisted Evil

Also, I have in the past kept to a pretty strict diet for three months, so I didn't expect three weeks of moderation (with free weekends even) to be that hard.

But turns out that moderation is a tougher gig than self-denial. Shocked

Day 21 and on: SUCCESS!!

Moderation may be a tougher gig than self denial, but it's eminently more rewarding.

So, like, are there jackets or anything for making it in here?

NO?!

Just the sublime sense of satisfaction of having attained a milestone and carrying on in the same vein for the rest of my natural life?!?!

Sign me up!!

Seriously, it really does feel like a good habit is forming in my new eating patterns, and it's WAY easier to resist that bitch of a mistress: Temptation. Heck, even my wife (not a bitch in any way, shape or form) is encouraging me in regards to "N" and "S" days. She totally rocks.

And so does this system (in an 'everyday' sort of way) and Reinhard for instigating. Which'll get you a 2-minutes minor penalty in hockey, but accolades 'round these here parts.

Welcome, Simon! Glad to hear you're really feeling the habit taking root and not just ticking days off a calendar.

Cafepress doesn't do jackets that I'm aware of, so for now you'll have to content yourself with the sublime satisfaction Smile

Now if I could just translate that empty growly feeling in my gut (happens daily at about 11 am) into a warm fuzzy feeling in my heart, I'd be rockin'!

Still, I FEEL way better about myself than I used to.

As soon as I lose some more of the insulation and develop the abs of a coal shoveler, I'll be on top of the world.

I'm thinking leather bomber jackets with the No S logo on the back. Kinda like those magic 8 ball jackets.

Well, it's day 20 for me...but considering tomorrow is an S day, I could eat an entire pig slathered in chocolate sauce and topped with potato chips and still make 21 without breaking a sweat...wait a second, call wolfgang puck, I think we might have a new taste sensation!

alright, feeling good, habit is building and feeling maintainable.

Like the bomber jacket idea... unfortunately cafepress doesn't carry those either.

Hi Peechee!!!
That is great!!!!!!
Congrats!!!!

ps... you can try to make Sunday an N day, but I suggest just taking a small extra S day for the party and just tone down the weekend, rather than totally make it an N day...
But do what works for you Smile

Thank you Deb, just hope it carries on being as easy - I'm sure I'll fall off the wagon now and again, but I feel so good doing this, before I was snacking between meals when I wasn't hungry (just eating out of habit) and now I feel much healthier by not eating so much. I am going to weigh myself tomorrow to see how much (if any) weight I have lost and will post that on the daily check in.

Thanks for all your support and encouragement Deb, I hope in the future I can do the same for you.

Kindest regards - Daisy

My second visit to the 21 Day Club - have now been doing No S for 42 consecutive days - I love this plan.

Here's my progress for anyone that may be interested

Start weight on 24 May 162.5lbs

Todays weight 5 July 157lbs

Total lost so far 5.5lbs

Not a fast loss, but definately a loss and I am more of the slow and steady type, so I am pleased with this. If I could carry on at this rate then I will have reached my goal before the end of the year.

I made it!! 21 days officially!! Actually I made it this past Thurs. but I left for a long weekend to London in the morning and didn't want to post until Thurs. night, but then I didn't have internet access the whole weekend. Anyway, I'm in a great place right now and am looking more towards the big picture and the rest of my life. I am now looking forward to 6 months from now which would be January 19. I know that if I can maintain no-s just one day at a time I will be able to make it a life habit. Even in three months on October 19th I hope for it to be more ingrained and automatic by then.

Yay Jenn!!!!
I am really happy for you!!! Mr. Green

When I first was able to do 21 days on habit, it literally took me a whole year to get to that point...
Your hard work will not go unrewarded and yes, it will become more automatic with time...

Oh! I am so jealous of you going to London!!!
I hope you had fun Smile

Congrats again!

Iíve made it to my first twenty-one day checkpoint! Thanks to those who encouraged me, and that includes everyone who shared the stories of their journey - I read you daily, even though I donít check in.

Iíve got rid of 5lbs of unwanted baggage so far; a little less than I had expected, but itís coming off faster than it amassed and, on analysis, I see that the days when my scales donít flicker downwards are the ones following a non-walking day! I know that some folk donít like to check their weight frequently, but for me itís a reward.

I find it amazing that I donít snack anymore; even on s-days, as this was my lifelong lifestyle, but I followed the guideline regarding plateFULLS in the beginning, and itís paying off. Now I need to start using a smaller plate! This is so good for me, after decades of up and down, to have finally found a workable, liveable, lifestyle. I am very grateful, Reinhard, for your beacon.

Welcome, hikermom!

Welcome Rosemary!

Since you've now managed a respectable positive count, laid a foundation for your habit, it might be easier to just count violations from now on. That's what I do in my check-in. Gives me some accountability without much work. But if you're still feeling doubtful, counting successes is probably the better way to go for now.

Reinhard

Actually 22 days. Both NOS and shovelglove. Very Happy
Steve

Edit.
I read the whole 8 pages of this tread last night and realized I should say a little more than "I made it".

This is a big deal - I have never ever stuck with any diet or exercise program this long. NOS is second nature now - pure habit. When I wake up I just go on auto pilot and make a pot of coffee and do shovelglove (plus a little) while it's brewing. Then I take a shower, feed the baby and myself breakfast and go to work.

I feel better physically and more importantly I feel better about myself and life in general. I am finally really enjoying having a happy healthy baby boy like I should.

I look forward to the 2X club

Thanks everybody
Steve

Steve,

Congratulations and thanks for the extra edit details!

There's something so satisfying about having good habits that goes beyond even the good achieved by the habits themselves. Regularity, order, even apart from the thing you are doing, is a satisfying good in itself. It's like a rhythm of behavior, something musical, as opposed to unmusical chaos.
