The Shovelglove IS a martial art!

Take a sledgehammer and wrap an old sweater around it. This is your "shovelglove." Every week day morning, set a timer for 14 minutes. Use the shovelglove to perform shoveling, butter churning, and wood chopping motions until the timer goes off. Stop. Rest on weekends and holidays. Baffled? Intrigued? Charmed? Discuss here.

Ok, came accross this on Metafilter today. http://militera.lib.ru/research/suvorov6/01.html. Apparently, the infantry shovel is used by Russian Spetznaz as a weapon. Here's an avi showing how!

That avi is funny. Especially when you play it to music.

Wow.

I like the part about how if you shoot at someone he'll shoot back at you, but if you come at him with a shovel he'll panic (because you're obviously nuts?).

Tony Soprano better hope that Russian never comes back. Funny, I seem to recall a shovel was involved in the "escape" scene.

This reminds me of how in "All Quiet on the Western Front," the old hands would instruct the raw recruits to forget their bayonets and rely on their shovels instead for hand to hand combat. Apparently, "you can take a man's head off."

Anyway, don't try this at home! The head you take off will probably be your own.

Thanks for the link, prodigal.
