How to handle the holidays (repost)

Post by reinhard » Wed Nov 23, 2005 2:59 pm

I imagine this is an issue on some of your minds, and I can't think of anything to say on the subject besides what I posted last year:
No matter what diet you are on, you are going to
overeat on Halloween. You are going to overeat on
Thanksgiving. You are going to overeat on Christmas.
(replace these with your respective national/religious
holidays). You might as well enjoy it.

Don't obsesses about holidays. A few days a year are
not going to ruin you. The bigger danger is that
you'll hold reluctant holiday excesses against
yourself and get demoralized for the post holiday. The
post-holiday is a legitimate concern. Focus your
energies on that. Give yourself one day of Christmas
so you don't take 12 (or 365). It's the leftovers,
both physical and psychological, that are the issue.

Halloween is the S-day par excellence. It's a holiday
where the central form of observance is the eating of
sweets. I for one intend to observe it devoutly this
year.
Original message here.

Sorry for the halloween emphasis (should have reposted earlier). Happy thanksgiving!

Since tomorrow is US Thanksgiving Day, I just wanted to say:

THANK YOU, REINHARD, FOR GIVING US THE NO-S DIET AND FOR YOUR CONTINUED ENCOURAGEMENT AND WISDOM.

I hope you and your family have a wonderful and blessed holiday. :D
