O43 Check-in

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Success today and yesterday. The end of last week sucked.

I have been getting my DDP Yoga workouts in. Last Friday I got the Extreme workout in. More of an Insanity type workout than a "true" yoga workout.

How are all my pals doing? School starts in a month, which is good,I am spirraling without the structure of work. Fifteen years until I retire, my wife is already dreading it.

I shelved the DDP Yoga, I started having all kinds of lower back pain. So I am doin the once a week Super Slow workout and concentrating on my back and stomach. Today was a very good workout, and I actually feel good from the waist down. The owner of the rehab center where I resistance train asked me why I quit in the first place. :?: It is what it is.

Well, headed to Northern California in few days.

Chat tomorrow.

I'll be in California until Saturday. I will be taking S Days, but I seem to have a bit of a stomach virus so I am not eating a lot anyway. Nothing like being nauseated, with intestinal cramps between Wells and Elko.

Weekend has been good. I have apparently under fed the last two days, which never hurts.

I did not get sore from Wednesday's workout, and looking forward to this coming Wednesday's workout.

I am back on Cymbalta, my grandfather is in his last few days, weeks, months? And I have had some anxiety. It seems (Cymbalta) to take the edge off.

Tomorrow then!

08.14.13

I have been failing on a spectacular level lately. Monday and Tuesday were a wash. Today has been good. So far scrambled eggs and toast for breakfast and a garlic chicken sausage, wheat thins, and a pickle for lunch.

I need to start flying straight, I appear to be showing some pre-diabetes signs...i.e., eating stuff and getting drowsy, dry mouth, and what ever else. I ate an apple and a nectarine the other day and about went comatose.

Got my weekly Power of 10 workout in this morning.

Update: Success! Dinner was teryaki chicken, salad and watermelon. I played golf for the first time in almost a month. It showed, and I have a sore back for my effort.

Good night.

Success!

Breakfast: 8 oz whole milk, two scoops of Body Fortress protein powder, one tbs. Nesquik, banana. I think the whole milk made this more filling and I got to lunch no problem.

Lunch: fried shrimp, fried rice, Diet Coke. This made me sluggish for part of the afternoon.

Dinner: Chef's salad with bleu cheese, boiled chicken/apple braut, whole milk. I did pop two cherrie tomatoes into my pie hole in the garden while rummaging for tomatoes. I don 't care about that.

See everyone tomorrow.

Failure

Something got me eating candy in the AM. By the PM I could barely walk. It is interesting the affect sugary foods have on me now. I lose physical strength and at times slur when I talk. The Mt. Dew didn't help either.

So, it seems a "well balanced" meal helps with the above issues. I go in, in a month to get re-tested for hormone levels, I guess I'll get another Diabetes check then.

Exercise: None, unless tapping my foot to "Tommy" counts.

I am out of my routine. Had an Instant Breakfast this morning, and by Two PM was gnawing the paint of the walls. A Snickers bar later and I was pushing coma stage. I'll learn.

I admire this Check In simply for the amount of fast food in it. It is a real life "diet". So keep up the good work.

It reminds me a lot of my own journey.

Failure

Today was what it was.

I am shifting to low glycemic, but keeping it within the No S parameters. My eye exam on Monday revealed that I might be diabetic, or starting on the path. Time to nip that in the bud.

Tomorrow is my Power of 10 workout. Looking forward to that.

I did get my workout finshed in the PM. Today's workout is what working out is supposed to be like.

I also had bloodwork done for the diabetes. I'll deal with it through diet. I.

Today was already a failure. But, progress was made.

I think I stated previously I had been having diabetes like symptoms: grogginess after eating, shakes, eating and having to eat again, low blood sugar, sweats, etc.

I had been taking a hormone replacement therapy. I stopped last Friday and today was a 180° turn around. I haven't felt this good in a month.

I guess there are no shortcuts.

Between Grandpa's near death experience, my daughter's wedding, and now my pop's open heart surgery, I have been packing the food.

Interestingly, my weight has been stable. I am continuing the once a week Power of 10 workouts. I have, surprisingl, more stamina than you would think without doing any "conditioning" training.

So, I should be back soon.

You'll get there and I'm glad to see that you're being kind to yourself about it - there's enough to deal with as it seems. It will get calm again soon!

10.03.2013

I ate a lot today. Not epic, but a lot. I started with a half backsided breakfast, and went from there.

Got my Power of 10 in today. So did my wife. Good workouts for both of us.

See you all tomorrow.

What an awful three days, so far, this week. I popped a couple of Lyrica for some back pain...that stuff makes me put the pedal to the metal when it has been coming to food. So, no more Lyrica.

Power of 10 tomorrow, nine holes on Friday.

An 18 hour fast and glucose testing today. Truthfully, the 18 hours was nothing. Although, it took so long to get the testing done I was given a free lunch at the hospital cafe'. In light of my possible diabetic state I chose...the fish sandwich and fries. And a DIET Mt. Dew. :(

Today, after I get over feeling glucose poopy, I am going to use the Bullworker. Tomorrow 110 skips with the jump rope.

Failure

Ate to early in the AM, not enough protein.

A feeding frenzy after lunch.

Then I got home, the doc called, I am pre-diabetic. So, their guidelines, reduce the junk, and the calories. Plus ramp up the "conditioning". My wife wanted to sell my Airdyne on Craig's list. I guess that won't happen now.

See everyone tomorrow.

I did get the DDPYoga Strength Builder in this evening. It's been six months. :? It was taxing.

Oh, so sorry to hear about the pre-diabetes. I can tell you're very frustrated and like you said, all very expected and normal reactions from you. You'll get back on track. It's probably like the stages of grieving: denial, anger, bargaining, acceptance..... or something like that. I think there's a 5th stage in there somewhere.

A unique failure today. Eastern Idaho lost power. At 5 AM the substation went down. The high today was 9. Even Walmart was closed. I snacked on Hostess cupcakes.

We didn't have any pipes break.

Edit: I did get a 20 minute dumbbell workout in. Tomorrow I'll use the Airdyne. It's to cold to skip rope in the garage.

Weekend: Dec 28-29, 2013

S Days

No exercise this weekenr, recovery is a good thing.

Food, I ate, but not as much as on a "normal" weekend. I think the Metformin, a blood sugar reducer, is also reducing my appetite. Which makes sense, increased blood sugar levels seem to increase appetite. In researching it, it is a "wonder drug" from the 1920's that was "forgotten" when MDs fell in love with insulin.

The one side affect is stomach discomfort a couple of hours after taking it. So, I think I'll only take one tablet a day instead of the two.

The yoga is working my back over, so tomorrow I might start heavy bag and heavy rope work. I just hate the thought of lifting weights, and even though I dig the yoga, it gets painful.

Yeah, I think metformin has an appetite effect separate from the blood sugar effect.

Love eggs. I am looking after my friend's chickens while she is away oh holiday. The eggs make it so worth it.

The Metformin has upped the ante on my stomach discomfort with multiple trips to the lounge the last couple of days. I thought I had either a "food born" bacteria or a virus, but I dug a little deeper into Metformin side effects, and sure enough.

So, I am going to continue to lower calorie intake, via No S, and exercise.

Free eggs, what a deal.

Hi there, so id mediform a script or over the counter supplement?

My husband wants to try the garcina cambogia (something like that).

I love eggs and when I eat them for breakfast it helps with wanting to eat too much later in the day. My best friend has a few chickens and when I see her she gives me some...yummy..especially because in the summer they get into all her plants :), so very organic!

Rose Bowl is some american football thing right? Known only in. The movies in my part of the world. Board games i do know. We played Risk and settlers of catan on NYE. Got beaten by the 11 y old in both. I won Talisman the night before though...

Anyway happy new year. No eggs on New Years day after all my gloating. i have the feeling chickens don't like fireworks much.

Success!

Breakfast: home made breakfast burrito, Diet Code Red Mt. Dew

Lunch: a thermos of Western Family chicken noodle soup, ham sandwich, 1/4 of a dill pickle

Dinner: Rice a Roni (I think) herb vermicelli noodles w/ diced chicken, and salad

Well,

I did not sleep last night. For whatever reason that seems to get me eating more the next day. So today, I ate.

Failure

I have a meeting later on (yippy skippy), so I doubt I'll get any exercise in either.

I'll see you all tomorrow.

It was a nice change. Today was an egg burrito with Vietnamese hot sauce.

But, today, as was yesterday, a Failure!. I am not sure why. Usually I can pinpoint the problem. Not this time.

But, I didi do the Diamond Cutter this morning at 4:45 AM.

Fail!

I am wondering, when I went off the Metformin Jan 1, if that didn't rev up my appetite? I started taking it again this morning, 1/4 tablets to begin with, and a full bottle of Immodium. Supposedly the body adapts to it. I hope so. If anything it seems to work as an appetite suppressant for me, without the insomnia and hyperactivity.

No exercise Friday, but plan on a Diamond Cutter today.

Thank you. Versatile if anything.

As for "sane eating" well, not so much. Although today, Jan 28, was a success. I have cut down on the weight lifting, and yoga. I found a set of heavyhands in a box in the shop, and have started using them when I walk.

So, onward to tomorrow.

Failure,

Got that out of the way before 10 AM.

School was cancelled due to -30 with the wind chill. Eating, not so good. Exercise, pretty good. I have been trading off between DDP Yoga and Heavyhands on the treadmill.

Today, off day from exercise. Baking a round of bread at the moment.

March 1 2014

I am down five pounds since mid February.

I am eating less, but not necessarily No S at the moment. I know it is a "legit" five pounds since I stopped taking my water tablets. So, instead of the big fluctuation day to day, this has been a steady decrease.

I am back doing Body by Science workouts as the yoga was/has been killing my back. The doc, as I may have stated before, suggests swimming, but the one pool for thirty miles charges $4 a dip. So, I am going with what works and causes the least amount of pain.

We'll see, maybe I'll post again on Monday.
