O43 Check-in

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Time to refocus. As Barry Schwartz suggests there are just too many choices out there, and I often jump from choice to choice.

I am still lifting.

I will report back this evening.

I obviously did not report back "this" evening. Losing about a half pound a week. I have been doing HIIT on the treadmill a couple of days a week and doing isometric workouts with a Bullworker.

If I remember, see you all tomorrow.

Hi over43,

No worries. Gentle persistence will pay off in the end. I'm a terrible evening snacker. I've stopped buying anything I like for snacks and I still find things to snack on. I snack a lot less though and you don't have to be perfect to see results. I promise.

One trick II've started and really helps: I make a special trip out on Friday to buy my treats for the weekend. That way they aren't in the house to tempt me during the week.

Good luck today.

Thank you for the post. That is a good idea about the snacks. Unfortunately there were snacks at work today.

Fail

I think my biggest problem is I have not been eating big enough breakfasts.

Exercise: Seven minute GXP workout on my wife's elliptical. I will probably add a Bullworker workout a bit later.

Success!

I joined a weight loss competition. It is by percentage of weight lost, not total pounds. So, yesterday (April 21), I ate breakfast, lunch and dinner. No snacks, sweets or seconds. The rest of my workmates are loading up on eggs, bacon, chops and salad. It gave me anxiety yesterday listening to what they could, and could not eat. Win or not, I will put in a good showing for the No S crowd. Right about now the winner will score about $150.

Today will be tough, I am at work, and in meetings until 9 PM. I did buy a couple of pints of Vit D milk to help me get through.

April 21, 2015

Breakfast: Eggs, bacon, mocha

Lunch: Two Taco Bell Tacos, half a real Coke (6 oz)

Dinner: Italian "Wonderpot" (see Budgetbytes.com), salad

Exercise: 8 minute Bullworker workout in my infra-red dry sauna. (35 minute sauna total)

Way to go, Over43! Show 'em what we can do! Ultimately, you will be the healthier one, I think. And maybe a year from now you can show them that whatever weight you did lose stayed off, with this moderate manageable system.

Thank you for stopping in.

I might as well get this out of the way early:

Fail

Following up, I had to double up on neuro-blockers this morning. One of the side effects is the perceived need to feed. Today about 10:30 AM I downed a Snickers, two plain doughnuts, and then had a Beef-a-Roni cup for lunch. (Surprisingly, I did not pay for that 30 minutes later.)

I have gotten it back together in the PM. Dinner was a rib eye, asparagus, and a salad with a couple of croutons. Although I am not a big low carb guy, I find that a couple of consecutive meals of low carb get me back on track.

I used the Bullworker in the dry sauna tonight. I sat for about 20 minutes, worked up a good sweat, and then started doing my isometric exercises. Interestingly, for only being about a 10 minute workout, I got a good pump. As I stated on another forum, I am feeling good, overall. And, although (have I posted this here?) I am really not capable of aerobic type exercises anylonger, I am not getting winded like I used to.

You all have a lovely holiday weekend. Especially you veterans out there.

This weekend has been will be all S Days.

I put in a rather vigorous Bullworker workout yesterday. I am a tad sore this morning. Which is good. I have owned Bullworkers on and off for years, but the last two months is the first time I have used one as a stand alone piece of exercise equipment. Not bad.

Hi everyone. A day late in posting.

Success!

Breakfast: eggs, sausage, hash browns

Lunch: 66% of a Togo's pastrami

Dinner: Somewhat of a virtual plate, angel hair noodles with carbonara sauce, salad with eggs, peas, ham cubes, bleu cheese. I ate about 1/2 of each plate. Did not go back for seconds at the buffet.

Exercise: I used the Bullworker during a 25 minute sauna. That seems to be a good format at the moment. I get a nice sweat going and am much looser.

May 30 and 31 S Days

Sunday I did a Bullworker workout, as I also did this morning.

Had to see the doctor this morning concerning my neuropathy. That is the downside, the upside, my BP was 130/80 (without BP pills, I still take a water tablet though), and my pulse was 62.

I will report later how the day went. So far, I have had bacon, eggs, and toast for breakfast, and a Hungry Man for lunch - the desert I skipped.

Dinner: salad, some stuffed pizza, Coke.

Hey everyone. Thanks for dropping in. I wish I could wash this post with green, but no.

I have been sleep eating.

On another note, I am getting "bored" with my Bullworker workouts. I know, how do you get bored with a 5-10 minute isometric workout? I am.

I have been perusing the "net". I am thinking of entering the Charles Atlas contest. Yes, it still exists, it is 12 weeks, and the entry deadline is September 15. I entered before, and, was not a winner.

In hindsight, I skipped the walking/jogging portion. Not a good choice.

In reality, at my age, The Charles Atlas contest is a better fit than a Body for Life or P90X contest.

So, I have a few days to decide. So far today? Green

And eschano, I always love a good article on James Bond or Ian Fleming.

Take Care.

Thank you for the encouragement. Today was an S day, obviously.

I did some yard work, Ving Tsun, and two sessions of Charles Atlas Lesson 1. I did my first session this morning out side at six AM outside. It was quite invigorating. Not coconuts to the wall like P90X or Biggest Loser kind of crap, but a good session any way.

My shoulder and tennis elbow feel better already.

See you all tomorrow.

I had golfer's elbow - like tennis elbow, but on the other side of the arm. I had forgotten all about it - which made me happy, because for so long I thought it would never heal. I guess it finally did :)

Well, according to my scale I have hit 178 lbs. According to the scale at work, I would be 188 lbs. minimum. Two of my co-workers believe the work scale is 10-15 pounds off. I do not look like I am in the 190 lbs. range.

I have been on and off. Mostly off, but that is usually a bag of peanut M&Ms during the day (boredom), or like Friday evening, a Hershey bar, which when I ate it, was incredibly sweet. I mean yuk!

I have been using the Bullworker (not as often because of the elbow), Wing Chun practice, and this morning I did Lesson One of the Charles Atlas routine. (You can find that on Angelfire....I actually bought the program ten yeas ago. It is great for both genders and No S would dove tail amazingly with it.) http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/shenandoah ... _Atlas.pdf

So far today, so good. First day of summer and my seven week break, I had one hundred pounds of German Shepherd try to put my head in his mouth at 5:45 AM. I guess he did not figure out the calendar yet.

So, success today. Fruit for breakfast. I virtual plated it. Last night was two hours of Wing Chun. Physically I am becoming more comfortable with it. In actual application there is no need for the ridiculous size of muscle I was trying to gain in past years. The Bullworker is about right.

Hello Gill and Eschano.

Gill, I do not always get a green day, but overall I eat less. I see you are from Cornwall. I watch Doc Martin. Cornwall is beautiful. Thank you for stopping in and posting.

Eschano did you peruse the exercises? I am a big fan of isometrics, but dynamic tension is different. In DDP Yoga Diamond Dallas Page calls it Dynamic Resistance, same thing.

Today was a fail. My kids started showing up from their various colleges. Sandwiches, nectarines, pickles, I ate it all.

The second summer holiday is over. The next, here in the Mountain States is Pioneer Day. There will be more parades, fireworks (get yours from Wyoming), and more jello salads.

Pretty good as far as a weekend is concerned. I stayed home instead of heading to the "city" (not San Francisco unfortunately) to see the fireworks display. My daughter and two of her friends showed up (one being her betrothed) and we ended up watching Ip Man.

Today, I under ate this morning, but have grazed on and off. I have made the mistake of eating several peaches, nectarines, and slices of watermelon. That is the Mountain West cleanse. No green juice needed.

I did do my Bullworker exercises yesterday. I have not Wing Chun-ed since Friday.

Back at it tomorrow.

Ninety minutes of Wing Chun.

I am going through a great insomniac phase. Not even the Ambien has been working. The M.D. wants me to try to wear myself out. I am tryng to embrace this.

Well, I have slept, I have eaten (a lot), and I have been working out, more than usual. Maybe that is why I have been eating more?

Anyway, was off Ambien for three weeks? Did well. I am travelling tomorrow, and will take a few while I am out of town. Then when I return, go cold turkey again.

I visited my daughter last week. Had a wonderful time. My son-in-law is a sous chef/line cook, so we ate well, and often, while I was visiting Moscow.

I am still using the Bullworker 2-3 days a week. I also have been doing Wing Chun practice almost daily, from 15 minutes to an hour. I feel more fit, particularly my legs.

I have been getting some sun, so I am a bit "sun burnt" as Ian Fleming would call it. Being cooped up in a building from August to June, much of that going to work, and leaving work in the dark, it is good to get sun.

See you all later.

Moscow, Idaho. They both go to the University of Idaho.

It gets people every time.

Sunday, Monday= Success. Tuesday, so far, success. I am in Dallas, and truthfully I do not travel well. So I have been very discretionary in what I stuff in my pie hole.

Still using the Bullworker. It might be time for a change. Although 10 minutes of isometrics a day is hard to argue with.

Well, here is to a successful Tuesday. 8)

Yes, to both questions. As you have probably read before, I get bored. And as good of a job as I think the Bullworker does, sometimes it is time to make a bit more effort. But, right now, I am exercising less, and feeling better. I did do a Charles Atlas Lesson One workout yesterday, and felt good after.

Sun - Wednesday: Success

I did drink a few bottles of Coke, but that was alternated with a lot of water. I am not sure what dried me out faster, sitting in conference rooms with air conditioning, or roasting outside in the Dallas heat.

Sorry I haven't been keeping up. We started back teaching on July 20. Good news is we have two weeks of school and then a two-week break.

And I understand possibly why you haven't been posting. The beginning of the school year is just darn busy! Hope No S has been supporting you.

Success

School has settled in. I really ballooned since May. It seemed the more I walked, and used the Airdyne, the more weight I gained. I am back to working and using my Bullworker and I have started to whittle the weight off again.

Tomorrow.

Failure

Unfortunately I devoured a Franz's powdered, raspberry, jelly filled doughnut at 3:30 AM this morning. There is always tomorrow.

I have been working out with the Bullworker, and doing Wing Chun on a regular basis.

Adio for now.

Edit: I think I was at my all time high in mid-August, 215. This morning I was at 204.

I had a failure by 9:00 AM...

Oh well.

I did get a Bullworker workout in today.

Wing Chun tomorrow.

Edit: On another note, I had a student walk up to me today and told me I looked like He-Man. Yea, the Masters of the Universe guy. I am about a foot shorter than Dolf Lundgren. I got a good chuckle out of it.

Is sleep snacking what it sounds like? I can't imagine. . . when I sleep I just sleep-sleep.

I get up and snack, but don't remember it.

As for my S and F days, the end of last week were F days. However, I am slightly below 205 lbs. So, since august (end of), I have lost about 7 pounds. I have cut back on soda quite a bit.

I did a lot of isometrics over the weekend. That seems to be the one source of strength training I can do without severe post muscle soreness. Gone are the days of telling pople "how much I bench".

Family starts arriving for the holiday tomorrow. That will be fun.

See you all tonight, hopefully.

Well, I am back to where I was before the Thanksgiving blitz. I have strength trained since October 2014, time to start riding the Airdyne.

So far today just a homemade breakfast sandwich. I think lunch will be Beef-a-Roni. My poor coworkers.

Have a good day.

I have been busting my hump on the Airdyne the last three weeks. The result is, I can button the top button on my dress shirt. Yippee Skippy! I thought I was going to have to revamp my formal wear.

Well I will start being more regular here.

Fail

I did so good yesterday, and while cooking dinner I realized I had eaten two Queen Anne chocolates without realizing it.

So far, so good today. Airdyne tonight.
