Sonya's checkin

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Kind of a rough week for eating, due to boredom and being at home too much. Will enjoy the sweekend, and start fresh on Monday!

Getting over a killer cold and sore throat here, 3.5 weeks in.
Am working on keeping to a 3 meal schedule. My electric frying pan died, so I am making do on an enameled pan on 1 electric burner.
I shared dessert with a friend at lunch, so today is red, but generally I've been doing pretty well. I'm down 9# from a super high weight after the holidays.

Hi Everyone! :D
Back here after a multi-year break.
Things are going well. I'm going to post my day of eating today. I'd like to get back in the habit of posting, don't know if it will stick or not. Right now I'm eating a large volume of fresh whole foods, so am eating 4 equal plates. Around 8a, 11a, 3p, 6p.
B: 1 orange, bowl pinto bean + veggie soup
L1: 1 potato, Brussels sprouts, carrot, 1 apple.
L2: Side salad, lg bowl popcorn
S: Sweet potato, banana

How cool to hear things are well. Has it really been nearly three years? Your meals sound like lots of fun chomping!

Thanks to all for the welcome back!

I'm back on the 4 equal meals plan, since I'm eating a lot of high volume, high fiber food. Likely to have floating S days again, as I socialize during the week and not so much on Saturdays. This week will be Sunday and Wednesday.

Yesterday was:
B: banana, oats w/raisins, almonds
Brunch: large black bean burrito with salsa
L: cantaloupe, ratatouille with green peas, whole wheat linguine
S: steamed potatoes with catsup and Dijon mustard

Today (N) so far:
B: banana, oats w/raisins, almonds, tea.
L1: Steamed broccoli, Bean burrito w/salsa
L2: Thick slice of whole wheat toast w/peanut butter + cherry preserves. Grapes. Green tea.
S: salad, steamed potatoes w/catsup and Dijon mustard, few dots

Hi Linda! It's great to see you after a long gap. I trust all is well with you and your family.

Sunday S day :D
B: Oats, banana, green tea
L: fiber 1 cereal, banana, peanut butter cups, peanuts, coffee, cake.
S: 2 plates spaghetti and meat balls, very small salad, rice crispy square, few skittles

That cholesterol stuff can be so puzzling. Best of luck with experiments!

Hi Oolala! Good to see you!

My food today:
B: coffee w/almond milk. Fruit salad (grape banana orange), oatmeal w/pumpkin, raisin, sm brown sugar
L: whole wheat pasta, corn, kale
S: big bowl popcorn, peanuts

Breakfast was in 2 bowls and never the twain shall meet, but I consider it what could fit on 1 plate if I didn't mind my runny food touching!
Trying to be here, keeping my meals clear and discrete.

Hi Sonya! I am also plant based, since 2007, and I also struggle with high cholesterol...so frustrating.

Hi Amy. Good to see you!
I know, right? It's puzzling, but I still think plant based is the healthiest. I have labs to be done again this month. Hope to see an improvement, but time will tell!

B: banana, orange, German rye toast, 1.5 T roasted garlic hummus
L: 1/2c black beans, 5 oz corn, 3 oz kale, 5 nuts
S: (planned) popcorn, tossed salad, 3/4 purple sweet potato

Good luck with labs. I am going to ask for some this month after a 3-month foray away from plant-based. I've read that it's really the Hdl/Ldl ratio that's more important than cholesterol, knock on wood. (Because mine was still ok last time, though not as good as it had been.) And low triglycerides can make a big difference, too, again, so I'm told.
