Reading about French food culture also brings to my mind Reinhard's brilliant mod - no solitary snacking, ever. Dessert is something that requires certain formality - a proper meal, and at least a plate and a spoon/fork. It always amazes me how happy and satisfied I am if I remember about that rule. I even consider cutting up my beloved Magnum Almond ice cream bar and putting it into a bowl.
Should this thread somehow be merged with the one on no snacking?

It seems it would be useful to have them all together...
