I'll go with the autopilot thing. I only wake up about halfway through the routine, once the blood gets pumping. However that sounds like just the solution I'm looking for for Freestyle Fridays. At 6am I have a very limited imagination so something like you cards would suit me fine - if you pardon t...

As long as your not waving the hammer under their noses, why should it even bother them? I am up at the crack of dawn to have the house to myself while I waft through my exercises (waft as in grunt sweat and heave...). At the end of the day, it's your thing, so keep with it. The laughs soon stop whe...

My first shovelglove related injury...
Swinging back a little too vigourously I caught my little finger between the end of the hammer handle and the edge of a shelf. Ouch.

Hi simonb, welcome to the forum! My only advice would be not to disregard a lighter hammer thinking it will be too easy. I started with a nine-pounder (4kg) and that was enough to get me swinging each morning. For me, the important thing is not the weight, but rather the fact that you do something e...

The old hammer is 4kg (8.8lbs) so the new one is only a kilo heavier, but what a kilo... I did 14-14-7 today, the first go after a wek of nothing and I was sweating cobs by the end. I've also worked a couple of 'bodyweight' exercises into the routine just to get the heart pumping a little more. Onwa...

New Hammer!
Hoopla! I managed to get to to the farmers supply store yesterday, and bought a 5kg hammer (that's 11lbs in old money). OK, so I'm on holiday and having a swath of yellow-coloured "S" days, but I did give it a try and it's amazing the difference. I think a few days of light duties to get into the sw...

Calloused thumbs (and other observations four months on)
Hi All, Just a progress report and brain-fart: So far I have been SGing for four months now; I have lost 4.4kg (+/-10lbs), I have gained some noticable muscle definition and my colesterol is at an all time low. The most amazing thing is that four months on, I'm still getting up to shovel some glove ...

Thansk for the tip WinstonWolf. Just by way of an update, the pain is gone. I took a week off and then started up slowly. I'm now doing more reps than before and with no problems. One thing I will note is that when doing the flip-the-lever exercise if I hold the haft of the hammer with all four fing...

Thanks for the update - and congratulations for keeping with it. I like the idea of your 2 on, one off system. I must say that come Thursday the old corpus is feeling a little sorry for itself and the rest time would probably do me good. However, in my case the clarity of "Mon-Fri == Shovelglove, Sa...

Hi Schnebit, My 2c would be to start on just doings 7 reps of each exercise to get into the rythm of the movement. Then you can up the reps to 14, 21 or as your body dictates. Think of this as playing the long game - one week here or there of low reps is nothing when you think that the idea is that ...

Thanks St. Matt - and what a coincidence! I started to do shovelglove ahain this morning, witha light, low rep run-through. No obvious pain and I'm quite glad. I have also changed my mouse in the office for a more ergonomic one. I think the combination of rest and new less mouse stress has done the ...

Tennis Elbow?
Hi All, I'm getting some pain in my right elbow/forearm. Coincidentally this is my mouse hand, but has anyone else experienced this? I've layed off the SG for a couple of days to see what happens (which is easier said than done). I'll keep you posted. BTW, I was using my powerball for the first tiim...

Ah, the curse of the dead chicken... A few days ago we found a dead chicken lying at the foot of the steps next to our house. So I left it, thinking that someone else would shift the thing, but no, the next day it was till there. So that evening, I donned protective gloves, grabbed the 'real' shovel...

I am under the Curse of the Dead Chicken* today, and missed my SG sesion this morning. Luckily I still have this evening to achieve a green flag on my progress spreadsheet. I am keeping a log of SG days, 'No S' days and daily weight check. So far over the last week and ahalf we are showing all green...
