Sure you need a metric. But most metrics measure artefacts or correlated factors, not the actual thing we want to know. Like a weight scale or BMI, which are pretty silly measures of obesity (just like the communist-style standardized testing they have in the US measures little more than how much a ...

Both sides of the issue- "pay less of the little regular things" and "pay less of the big things"- have merit. I think the answer is not necessarily in one or the other exclusively, but in making a budget and doing your best to fit everything in there, cutting down on what you value the least. I wou...

Yea, I agree that the No Seconds rule is arbitrary. It's meant like that- as a habit. But I don't consider it "seconds" if, for instance, I eat a couple bites of something while I'm cooking something else. It's not a good habit, but the quantity is so low that it might as well be on my "one plate" a...

So far it seems to be about fifty-fifty. Reinhard, I don't understand what you mean about "I have other interests" being a knock against anyone. It's just a fact that some people are simply not interested and have other interest than religion or spirituality. I would mostly count myself as one of th...

Sure... keep in mind, though, that while it's true that we are fatter, the concept of the "obesity epidemic" is a fabrication of the government. Its "BMI" does not take muscles into account, so athletes and actors are counted as obese and overweight. Here is an article on this: http://www.consumerfr...

I have not taken S-days this weekend because I don't do any walking on the weekend. I would feel crappy if I took license while I wasn't doing any work. I have made Monday and Tuesday my S-days instead. Had a big lunch of the rest of the alfredo leftovers (they were getting too dry), so I had a smal...

Lunch was a chicken sandwich. Dinner, I made rice with ground beef. Didn't have the sauce I usually use, but it was good. Just realized I forgot to put any vegetables in it. I had two bites of the leftovers while I was waiting for the rice to cook, to tide me over. Since it was so little, I don't co...

Well, after the previously mentioned entreaties, I decided to have a couple of oat raisin cookies at around 2 (which I count as a delayed lunch). For dinner I had a plate of the leftovers (there's still some left!). Day 2 completed, but somewhat disheartening due to my wife's lack of support. I'll t...

I totally agree on arbitrary rules. My boss is always saying if Sue doesn't question a new rule, no one will. Ever see V for Vendetta? That's me or actually my husband and me. The more freedoms we toss away the less we all are. Not the forum but we were just wondering this morning what a market ana...

Francois Tremblay check-in
Checking in, one hour before bed. To reward myself in starting No S Habit (I can't call it a diet, that's just horrible), I made my favourite meal, alfredo with chicken, and had one normal plate. Not only was it excellent, but now I have a bucket of leftovers! Talk about an advantage! For dessert I ...

Urban Ranger by necessity
Due to the fact of not having a car, I am an Urban Ranger by necessity. But I enjoy walking. I find a lot of ideas can be acquired there, either that or when lying in bed, are my two main sources of inspiration. However, recently I have been looking for work, with more and more alacrity. This means ...

Survey on religiosity/spirituality
I do not want to start an argument or debate on this topic. I just want to test a little theory of mine. So please indulge me and vote. In the interest of full disclosure, I am a "rabid atheist" (per my sig), although I would say I have a bit of spirituality in my life, and I accept people wh...

No Snacking?
I am starting on the No S Habit today. I'm not quite clear, however, on the "no snacking" rule. To be honest with you, it doesn't seem very clear to me at all when I think about it. So I have decided it would be better to replace it with two equally simple rules: No Salty No Strain: Eat only when yo...

Link to AA no the No S page
Greetings. I have been shown this web site by a friend of mine (Niels, who uses the shovelglove) and I think what Reinhard is doing is actually very profound. I am embarking on the No S Habit (I refuse to call it a diet- it simply has no relation to diets) today. However, reading the No S page, I sa...
