My slender father ate dessert every night of my life. He never ever ate snacks, and was reasonably active -- chopped firewood, played tennis, loved skiing. I think he would have rather died than use a gym. Too boring for his taste. And his desserts were usually tiny. But he loved them. It was kind o...

I was actually more entertained by the related article "Is Central Heating Making You Fat?" As someone who lives in an uninsulated (until next week!!!) 1925 cottage, I can tell you that having a cold, cold house encourages sedentary behavior. That particular article proposes the idea that Americans ...

Tuesday Still sick, and I think the antibiotics are messing with my digestion. I spoke with my doctor today, I'm trying some steroidal nasal spray to help my inflamed sinuses, and I've got a referral to an ear-nose-throat doctor. For whatever it is worth, I'm told this two-and-a-half-week cold is r...

Welcome! This is a great place. The people here are honest, kind, supportive and often very funny. They're here to cheer your successes and to help you dust off when you slip and fall. Reading back through old postings is quite interesting. Don't try for perfection. Many people seem to find writing ...

Sunday Okay, I'm better now. I really had been feeling horrible for weeks and weeks, and was being such a good little no-esser. So when my treat was messed up, I had a tantrum. I have a friend who says that some weeks end in a Happy Hour, and some need a full-on Tantrum Hour. I got so fixated on my...

So, I've been sick forever. I'm so exhausted and demoralized. And we decide to have a bit of ice cream with the tiny slice of cake that we saved from last week. We decide to "temper" the ice cream, but this goes horribly wrong, and I end up having a total melt down because the so-called ice cream is...

I'm glad I'm doing no-s and not living with those monks.

I'd hate to have to disembowel or hang myself if I had a failure.

The discussion forum would be pretty lonely if everyone who had a forbidden cookie committed suicide.
