I like to pretend I am shoveling coal into a train's steam engine. This is quite similiar to "stoke the oven", but I "fill the shovel" very low on the floor - the key here is to keep the shovelglove low. Then I shovel the coal into the furnace opening around hip height.

I find this hits the abs like, well, a steam train

Fits perfectly with my original inspiration for "stoke the oven" (and for "shoveling," come to think of it). Looks like you've got a nice little scenario going.

Oh ... I was not sure how "stoke the oven" translates, but I figured it meant poking around in the ashes with a stick or something.

Yes Juergen, I think it does mean poking around in the coals with a poker...

We are all so 21st century!
Soon we will probably live in an age when a computerized fireplace is available!

My fault for the confusion, Jürgen. The image I had in mind was the furnace of a steam engine, but because I've never done anything of the kind, I think the phrase I chose was slightly off.
