An Oregonian's Check-In

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

An Oregonian's Check-In

Post by An Oregonian » Mon Dec 14, 2009 8:22 pm

Round 1; Day 1
11-24-2009

Success on my 1st day of No S eating. I had 3 meals, no sugar, no snacks (except for about 9 sunflower seeds I grabbed from a bowl and popped in my mouth while talking to a dd - didn't even think about it and then I said, "oops - I wasn't supposed to do that" - LOL), no seconds - drank skim, water and ice tea. I'm so looking forward to a treat on Saturday or Sunday, but no cravings hit me today except once about 2pm. I just waited 5 minutes and it was gone.

My Wii Fit Plus workout went great - fascinating to do these different types of movements and see how I do. I put in 23 minutes today. My family is just LOVING being physical with our new Wii.

Forgot my vitamins today. I need to put them by my breakfast area!

Round 1: Day 2

Having TOO MUCH fun with the Wii Fit Plus. I LOVE that the other family members Mii characters follow me around and wave and participate.

I did 36 minutes on the Wii and it said I burned 172 calories.

Success on eating NO S today. Although, I totally noticed the cookie the kids had with their lunch and around 3pm I wanted my natural popcorn with a piece of dark chocolate so bad. I know that's an okay snack, but I have to wait until an S DAY - so I just dealt with the craving - reminded myself I still have dinner to look forward to and also focused on that for a reward this weekend.

Round 1: Day 4
12-27-2009

Today is an S DAY, but I'm doing great on just enjoying a taste of something, not a whole serving. I want to keep up my momentum.

I did 40 minutes on the Wii Fit Plus program. Still loving this more than any exercise program I've done before: treadmill, stationary bike, workout videos, XBX, outdoor walking, pedometer, swimming, Curves.

Round 1: Day 6

It's an S Day so I can eat what I want in moderation. Boy did I enjoy one of my dd's oatmeal choc. chip cookie. And a little of my dh's incredible clam dip. And some natural popcorn with a piece of dark chocolate.

Did 30 minutes on the Wii Fit Plus and burned 135 calories. Did stretching, balance, aerobics and abs today. Set a new record on Table Tilt.

No Wii workout on Sundays. Did walking today. Insane non-stop day so didn't get to my Wii.

Round 1: Day 13

Success yesterday on No S.

Today was an S day, but there wasn't much around to enjoy. I did have some Dutch Brothers hot chocolate this morning. I'll have to make sure I have a nice, small treat tomorrow. Gotta make it thru next week with 5 No S days.

32 minutes on the Wii Fit Plus with 120 calories burned.

Didn't get to work out yesterday so I will work out tomorrow to make up for it. That will give me my 5 days for the week.

Round 1: Day 14

Enjoyable and reasonable S day today. Total lbs lost so far: 2.

Today wasn't one of my 5 workout days, but I missed Friday so I did 20 minutes Wii Fit Plus with 70 calories burned. Got at least 3 new high scores/#1 slots.

Round 1: Day 15
12-08-2009

Failure. I almost had success on my No S day, but I did choose to eat one of my dd's oatmeal choc. chip cookies because I know they'll be gone by Saturday. That was the only sweet or snack that I had. I didn't have 2nds at any meal.

30 minutes Wii Fit Plus with 119 calories burned.

Round 1: Day 21
12-13-2009

S day. : D

No workout for me on Sundays.

Finished Round 1. I think I did okay all things considered.

My success rate was 18/21 days in my first round. That's 86%.

I'm not a dieter and am anti yo-yo. This diet is the first thing I've found in a 2 year search that truly makes sense for me. Not so much a "diet" but a way of eating for the rest of your life. That's my ultimate goal.

Round 2: Day 1
12-14-2009

Total weight loss during Round 1 (21 days) = 4lbs.

Failure on eating. Went to bed successful, but got up around midnight starving and ate some potato salad and skim milk.

( I can't BELIEVE I've done 3 weeks of No S and Wii Fit already. It's gone pretty fast. Wow.)

23 minutes on Wii Fit Plus with 93 calories burned.

You sound like you are doing great, Orie. We have a wii fit, which I'm going to have to try to use... I found all the "check your balance" crap at the beginning a bit tedious, but maybe I'll just try to start getting to the exercise part.

I'd like to say that other family members would participate, but my son is a high school wrestler, and he's so impossibly fit that he just mocks my attempts at fitness by doing one armed pushups. :)

1. I skip the Body test (only do it every 2 weeks) and go straight to training. I usually use the locker room section so I can minimize the time spent choosing and loading an exercise.

2. I don't allow anyone in the room while I workout. I'm with you - no mocking or giggling wanted. I am impressed with how much I need a shower when I'm done. It keeps me mentally busy, too, which is terrific.

Round 3: Day 3,4,5

Success for Wednesday, Thurday and Friday for No S Eating.

Did not get to workout yesterday or today because the mini-boiler stopped delivering HOT water to our sinks and tubs. So I've been afraid to get sweaty. It's been bad enough to take a standing in the tub shower with 4 pitchers or stove water.

Our landlord built it and won't be back from Hawaii until late Sunday. The other 3 plumbers that came apologetically gave up.
