Shovelglove mod to get started!
Shovelglove mod to get started!
I'm not very strong (at the moment) as a 60yr old woman who's never been into strength-training - but I came up with the idea of trying to use my dumbells as a sort of shovelglove thing. It's working well for me because (a) I can adjust the weight and (b) the shorter handle makes it easier for me
You never know, I may progress to a proper shovelglove in time!

Hi, Gill! I just use regular weights and swing them around, along with other moves. That looks nifty. Are you still at it?

New to No S so have a lot to learn. Will also be starting out using the dumbbells, seeing as I already have them, and biking rather than walking d/t painfully ruined feet (bike has been tuned up and is ready to go; will be using indoor pedaled until weather warms up). Feeling VERY optimistic.
Peace out,
Mary S

Those are worthy movement replacements, SF. Very much in keeping with using what's at hand.
Exercise does more for longevity than just about anything! And it's about 20% influential in weight loss. It plus No S, I believe, will solve 80% of the degenerative disease problems.
This I write will plunked down surfing the net...

About a year ago - I had the opportunity to use an actual sledgehammer (a BIG one) on a huge truck tire. WOWO, was I sore. AND for whatever reason, supremely peaceful.
I've never heard of this exercise - but it sounds like fun.
SO - I think it's going to be awesome as a 63yr old to walk into Lowes or Home Depot - and buy the biggest one they have.

RED, I don't think even Reinhard uses the biggest one they have.
I hardly ever even get to my 15-lb. weights and I have two 20's out on the deck. Thankfully bought at yard sales at a fraction of the new price. I'll probably never get a real sledge hammer. Won't stop me from using what I have doing analogous moves.

LMAO - Well, I broached the topic with my left-brained spouse. He was adamant that we don't have the room, with hints at unintentional demolition due to my innate klutziness.
In other words, no matter what size I picked, he wanted me 15 or 20 feet away from the house. HA.
But I'm like the others here, I'm starting with something lighter - like a shovel or broom.
This past week though - I spent a lot of time raking up moss from my yard, harder than it looks, and my muscles are telling me off. It felt good to get that done!
