No S Diet book available for pre-order on Amazon

Post by reinhard » Fri Jun 22, 2007 5:50 pm

I just happened to notice yesterday that searching for "No S Diet" on amazon yields a rather interesting result...

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... aysyste-20

No picture yet, and it's going to be a while before it ships... just thought I'd let you guys know before you heard it somewhere else :-)

I know it's hard to judge a book without even seeing its cover, but getting a bunch of pre-orders in would probably be a good thing in terms of convincing the powers that be to take this project seriously. So if you're feeling generous/patient/confident from what you've read on the site already, I'd really appreciate a few clicks on that cute little shopping cart button. And don't worry, you aren't actually billed till the book ships, and if you're disillusioned in the (long) interval you can cancel your order.

Thanks!

Reinhard

P.S. I make about as much/little from my cut as an amazon associate as I do from royalties as the author -- so buy through the link above or elsewhere on this site, if possible.

No S Diet book available for pre-order on Amazon

Post by Too solid flesh » Fri Jun 22, 2007 6:57 pm

How exciting! Congratulations, Reinhard.

I've ordered two copies - one to keep, and one to lend. Tell your publishers I'd have bought it in hardback if they'd published it in hardback :D .

Got it ordered. Thanks for the pre-notice. At the bottom of the Amazon page there is a place for people to start a discussion about the book. Maybe some people from this board could start a discussion about NoS there and browsing customers can get a little info about the book.

Canadian orders?

Post by mondurvic » Sat Jun 23, 2007 5:13 am

Reinhard, how about orders placed through amazon.ca, the Canadian subsidiary? Does that site give you credit, too, and do you think orders placed there will contribute to the "buzz" about the book? I want to do this whatever way is best for you.

I ordered one copy, but may order some more between now and the release date. I know lots of people who could use it (and maybe the public library, too!).

Bet we can guess what the cover design will be!

Thank you all!

Yeah, the cover design will not be too surprising :-)

Judy, please feel free to order it from wherever is most convenient for you. It makes about 60 cents difference to me if you order it through my links, it's silly for you to pay dollars more for that.

I was thinking more of the buzz than of the money. The buyer for B. Dalton once told me that if just one copy of a book is sold in each of their 900 stores, that's enough to put it on the best-seller list. This goes back some years, but it's probably close to what's accurate today, too.

Me too! You're sweet, Deb :-)

Well, it's nice, but it doesn't count in terms of "sales rank." And they'll only bill you when it ships, so it's not like you're paying ahead. But don't sweat it, I have no idea how much pre-orders matter (especially at this early stage before the writing has even been finished). Frankly, it feels a little Enronish to see it listed already... (ok, enough anti-promoting!)

Ooh, a refridgerator magnet included in/with the book would be fabulous. My pre-order is set. I figure that is about the time I'll finally convince my husband to try No S. Now if only I can convince him to read somthing other than the sports page.

Thanks for the order!

I'll mention the magnet idea to my editor. I'm pretty sure the odds of it happening for the initial printing are close to nil, but if it takes off, it's an obviously good idea.

I made this discussion sticky as a first baby step towards marketing the thing. As soon as we get a cover on amazon I'll also post a link on the No S home page (the cover design actually does exist, and looks pretty nice, I think).

But I think the March 2008 release date still stands.

Despair not, British no-essers!

It's just been brought to my attention that you can pre-order the book from amazon.co.uk:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/DIET-Reinhard-E ... 414&sr=8-1

[English speaking] Germans can also get it:

http://www.amazon.de/No-Diet-Strikingly ... 520&sr=8-1

No .fr, yet, however. I guess the French will have to rely on their much vaunted traditional eating habits for a little longer. :-)

Oh Reinhard, I am so happy to hear about the book. I am an oldie (and I hope a goodie). I was here a year or so ago, and even though I only had about 10 lbs. to lose, I needed to find a way to eat healthier. I was a feast or famine kind of gal.

Your three meals was the sanity I needed. I now consider myself a naturally thin person, which is why I don't come here anymore, but I should pop in every so often just to say thanks again.

I will definitely say thanks by purchasing a copy of your book. Makes me feel there is justice in the world...you gave all this wisdom away, and now I hope to see you on the best seller list! Will be looking for you on Oprah.

Warmest regards,
Peetie

Thanks for popping in again Peetie! I'm very happy to hear that you no longer need the site (kind of the goal for everyone, right?), but occasional pop-ins (and book purchases) are much appreciated!

Signed up for 2 books

Post by christmas tree » Wed Jan 02, 2008 2:42 pm

I bought 2 books because you have put yourself out there for all of us. Your website really explains everything so there is no need for the book--but your eating plan is so wonderful that by you becoming successful with your book you will reach so many more of us diet failures. Thank you for developing your common sense approach.

Double thank you, christmas tree! I really appreciate this -- and I hope you won't be disappointed. While it's true that the book doesn't contain any Secret Information I don't freely give on the website, I do think it has some added value: it's more grammatical, more in depth, more tightly organized, and more portable. And, of course, it's a much appreciated "thank you."

Yes, I'm pretty excited!

It looks like there's going to be a cover story on No-s (with a photo of one of our bulletin board members!) in a major (U.S.) national magazine in early April.

I'll post details (along with the identity of our covergirl) as it gets closer.

Please can I ask that you post a copy here of the article as us poor people not in the US will loose out on it.

I am excited to say that I ordered my copy of your book from a local SA supplier and should receive it by 19/03/08. I can't wait to get it and start encouraging friends to buy it.

I don't know if I'm going to be legally allowed to post the entire article (I suspect not, though I'll ask) but it does look like they're going to let me post an image of the cover. More soon...

I'm very excited to hear the book is going to be more or less immediately available overseas! THANK YOU for your order (and recommendations to friends).

My editor just let me know that they already had to send out a second batch of books because interest seems high.

Wow! Ich bin erstaunt!

Und sehr froh dass es euch gefällt!

The website has been a labor of love, but I've had to write it in fits and starts and I'm afraid that shows. It was a lot easier to justify spending the focused, consecutive hours that decent writing demands with an actual book deal in place... I'm thrilled that you think they were worth it! Except for editors, you're the first non-family members who have read the book, and while biased praise is nice for what its worth, this is so much more gratifying! Thank you!

Reinhard

P.S. I'd love to write more books, so if this one sells, chances are good that will happen.

Hi Lieslie,
I did what you are doing. After years of dieting and bingeing, just wanted to find a way to maintain that was healthy and sane, yet relatively easy. And, lo and behold, I ended up losing an additional 10 lbs.

I am so excited for you, Reinhard. Guess nice guys don't finish last afterall. Can't wait to get my copy of the book.

I think it's a good thing....even if we've "got it" to go back and reread the basics from time to time. So my book will be my home refresher course.

Doesn't this feel like a dear friend of ours is finding success in the writing world everyone? I can't wait to walk into my local book store and see the book and feel a part of it all. Usually, web sites come AFTER a book....I love how Reinhard is breaking all the rules, in the best possible way.

With much excitement and eager anticipation,
Peetie

I am not much of a review writer (especially not in English), so I'll leave that to somebody else, but I would like to say that this really is a great book and I bet people are going to love it :)
It was very motivating to read it -- this is the very first (and probably last) diet book I have ever bought, and I mainly did so because I enjoy Reinhard's style of writing and his ideas so much, especially the habit part, which I hope I will be able to apply to several parts of my life which I think need improving. I will soon read the book a second time, this time more slowly and with even more attention, hoping I can keep up my motivation like this for some time.
Thank you for writing this book, Reinhard :D

Dear Reinhard,

today I received your book. I´m really impressed that the book made it´s way to Germany in such a short time. I´m even more impressed about your writing style and wish you all the best.

Thank you,

kks71

Viel Erfolg,

kks71

Very excited to hear they're shipping even here! Let me know when they arrive and what you think... (I'd love to get some reviews up on amazon, wink wink nudge nudge).

kks71,

I am loving reading it all again (in slightly different order) and loving the fact that it is small enough to carry around with me

Congrats Reinhard and as soon as I am finished reading, I will post a review on amazon and my local supplier.
