Hi Oolala, sorry you are having a not so good time of it at the moment. I still value what you have given to us. As far as taking notice of advice from others goes about eating, diet and weight, I measure it against my bottom line. Which for me is that not bingeing trumps ever other consideration fo...

Re: The Blessings of Simplicity
I have found that a whole food diet makes managing my weight much easier. I can eat those foods more or less to appetite and maintain my weight, although I need to keep an eye on energy dense fatty foods like nuts. Generally steer clear of other, processed foods (except for a few things like tofu an...

Well, I ended up 4 lbs down over 2023. And I averaged 9800 steps per day for the year. However, my weight has crept up a little over the last couple of months, due to mainly to poor sleep sapping my will power. The result being a bit more food, and a bit less exercise, and the odd day where eating p...

That makes it really hard, having tempting food stored so close to you. I rely much more heavily on not having food I don't want to eat around than on my limited willpower.
Is it possible to store snacks in the kitchen you mentioned rather than your cubicle?

I have been listening to another interview with science communicator Stephan Guyenet, which I do both for reinforcement and to keep up with the latest science on weight loss. He doesn't address BED which was my main problem, but I have found his suggestions very helpful to get my weight down now tha...

It took me quite a while to accept my self imposed limits on food, but I think that acceptance is the key to stopping the internal debates and the angst that goes with them.

Re slowing down eating: I actually enjoy the physical act of eating and the chewing, I think it is a form of relaxation or stress release. So sometimes if I find myself rushing I remind myself to chew thoroughly and eat more slowly, otherwise the meal will all be over too soon. Also good to really s...

I am a very basic cook, and don't really do recipes. If I need to make the meat, veg and starch more interesting, I will chuck in some herbs or spices, perhaps some garlic or chili peppers, lemon juice or red wine vinegar. Usually everything is topped with a good quality olive oil. Home grown herbs ...

Hi Ellis, even if you really did put on a little weight during your holiday, you haven't undone all the practice you have put in working on good eating
habits.
It can take a couple of weeks for extra water weight to leave after a change in eating habits (own experience).

To eat enough to not feel hungry is perfectly normal. I also get much hungrier after exercise. Part of my anti overeating strategy is to have more energy dense food at meals for a while if I get overhungry. Or an extra meal, but stay with the good eating habits - sit down to eat at the table, dish t...

Yes, 'fails' are inevitable, just part of learning how to eat sensibly like learning any other habit.
It is just a particularly difficult one to master for many people, including me.
Sounds like you are off to a good start.

As far as bingeing goes, I still don't feel completely secure. But I am pretty happy how I eat nowadays, especially as I can keep my weight down by eating plain, simple home cooked food to appetite. Much like I suppose you do. And walking. Learning to wait out the cravings was the key.
