Re: Candace's Newbie Check-Ins

I agree about not swapping the S day for an N day on Sunday. You made the right choice. S days are supposed to include national holidays. The idea is not to feel guilty about enjoying them. That was a very important part for me. Once I got used to the rhythm of regular days and special days, not fee...

Yes, seeing it all at once is very helpful. It was so easy in the past to take a small initial portion, then a second similar portion, and then pick a little, and fool myself into thinking I hadn’t eaten much. Re: oolala53

I'm with r.jean on tracking. I know that keeping a "food diary" is supposed to be a good thing for weight control, but I find that tracking everything I eat in detail takes much of the joy out of enjoying my meals. I'd tell myself "I track my spending in my checkbook, I should also track my food sin...

Re: automated eating tracker

I've been convinced for awhile now that not everyone reacts the same to salt. We all need some, but many eating typical Western diets get too much. But there's likely such a thing as too little for most people also. Years ago when I needed to be on some medication briefly that had a side effect of l...

Re: Sharon's daily check-in

Thank oolala and automated eating. It's been a tough week. Someone we know died unexpectedly - an acquaintance who shares a similar circle of friends. And even though we're not close, it's still sad and upsetting. I feel terrible for his wife, who is a lovely woman. Plus I've had a bad cold this wee...

I've been traveling, for work and to visit my husband's family, and I've had more S days than I'd planned this month. One thing I learned: If I'm going to be significantly off my usual routine, I need to be definite at the outset that a day is an N day. If I think "I'll see how it goes," it will go ...

I'm getting into an interesting routine. After I splurge on sweets/snacks/refined carbs on my S weekends, Mondays are a little tough. I typically need to turn to some apple cider to get through the period between lunch and dinner. I get out of the habit of not being full all the time. Now that it's ...

I think if you make healthy eating choices - less refined carbs specifically - you may lower your overall body fat. So I've read. (Which would help explain why my body fat composition is very high even though I exercise almost daily and my BMI has never been above normal.)

The bread problem is temporarily solved. Day-old sourdough bread is not nearly as tempting as fresh. Had a slice with my salad at lunch and didn't feel the urge to have more (not that I would since it's an N Day). Saltines are off limits now for N days and possibly S days too unless I'm sick. I was curious and looked it up. U.S. guidelines are 1 drink per day for women - for wine, that's 5 oz. U.K. guidelines are 14 "units" of alcohol per week, which somehow translates into six 175-ml glasses of wine. Seems to me that having 2 glasses of wine once or twice a week should be OK. While I do...
