it's been a while... again.
Hello! Daniel Aiden David Parkinson has just turned ONE! Born 13th April 2011, at 10lb 2oz, on his Grandad's birthday (hence the extra 'David'). The doctors were worried he might have blood sugar issues (panicked cos he was so big) but there was no such problem, no gestational diabetes or anything d...

The check in's what did it this time again. I wonder what will happen when the 21 days are up and the check in accountability isn't as big of a deal (at least to me). Maybe that's when the habit part will kick in and I can rely on that (plus the knowledge that I made it x number of days w/o snacks ...

We used to do something similar to Jan when we lived in Leeds. However, the Netherlands' lack of large supermarkets and our living arrangements (no car) made that totally unworkable here. Also, I'm not very good at deciding what I fancy eating a week in advance, so rarely make up a meal plan. I just...

Cheated today and had a small portion of dark chocolate with my lunch. Other than that, I've been pretty well behaved. Done some kind of exercise every single day too. Walked my butt off on Friday and Sunday, and did the hash run yesterday as well. My hamstrings actually felt a bit tight from all th...

Oooh no! The 10K run is 15th OCTOBER. I've got about 6 months to get properly in shape for that. ...speaking of which, I really do need to sit down and work out a training schedule. Makes me tired even to think of it! *yawn* Yesterday was a lot of business travel again, but I was good and foll...

Hi Schnebit, just wanted to chip in say that - although I don't want to rain on your parade - this is a fairly slow way to lose weight. Most people lose weight healthily and sustainably on this plan but unless they have literally hundreds of pounds to lose, they'll lose about 1 pound a week, on aver...

Cheers Sunshine! at the moment I mostly walk the hashes, rather than run them. Our trails are set with plenty of false trails and checkpoints to keep the 'front running bastards' occupied until well after us walkers arrive. On a bike - we call that 'bashing' and it would earn me an extra '...

hi sunny! Well, if I'm not the queen, then at least I'm the crown princess of falling off the waggon and getting straight back on it! I must have 'restarted' at least 50 times by now. :) I don't think of it as restarting though. It's a continuous process and yesterday's no-so-good behaviour doesn't ...

W0000t! w000t! It's great when you actually get a bit of the money you paid already in taxes in the past back to help you out when you really need it. It's horrible to have to ask, but sometimes you need a helping hand and in this case it was definately worth it. And I'm really glad you get to stay ...

Well, yesterday was a SUCCESS. I helped to set the trail for the hash yesterday, so I actually walked the entire course TWICE. By my reckoning, that was about 12km in total. Phew! The biggest thing was, I DIDN'T EAT any of the FREE snacks at the end of the run. I held off till afterwards and came ho...

Hi Beck, Thanks for that. I took a look at your blog - I'm AWESTRUCK. You've really come a very long way, mentally as well as physically. There were some really neat observations in there. I'm sort of doing something like interval training at the moment. I can manage half a kilometer at a stretch, t...

Hey Beck, That is such a cool definition, and I agree it totally fits with NoS. I never thought of this as a 'diet' like "special types and / or quantities of things to eat" but more as a "diet" as in "what do you eat and how do you live?" and this is the proof! I shall remember this and pass it on ...

If you make sure that you stick to your ONE plate of food at a meal, then you can't overeat. If you think your plate looks disgustingly overloaded, it might very well be, but don't worry too much, cos that will sort itself out once your body gets used to only eating at fixed times each day. Oftentim...

Glad to hear it went OK for you. Seriously though, when I started out also thought that I wouldn't make it through. I 'allowed' myself up to two extra portions of fruit or raw veg every day if I wanted them, surplus to my 3 meals. Starting out, I ate at least one of these most days, but now I hardly...

One meal at a time. That's my thought for today. Lunch was a bit large (an avocado, 2 big fat sausages and 2 slices of nice dutch soft dark multigrain bread with seeds and stuff in) but then I couldn't finish it anyway and left half a sausage and half a slice of bread. Huh. Pause for thought....

Hey Dusty! So glad you decided to do this for your mom. Tell her from me, she doesn't need to be embarassed at all - us humans are not as smart as you dogs and we mess up a lot. Most people who've been here for a while have come and gone a few times too, so when she's ready to re-appear herself she'...
