Hah. Havent been on Everyday Systems in forever, but this rang a familiar bell with me. I'm sitting here at work and this report just came on local public radio, on "urban hiking". Thought I'd share.

For that kind of money you could go into DSLR, which I don't know any specifics. I would love one, but found with my older Canon Digital Rebel that I would never bring it along due to its size. If portability needs to be part of the equation, I have a Canon G9. It's the upper end of the compact came...

I started No-S on 11/3 as well. Technically 11/1 but took advantage of the S days to disappear my kids' Halloween candy. Also starting Glass Ceiling at the same time (11/1). That's going to be tougher for me, as beer has become my comfort food and main evening "snack". Hope I'm not breaking too big ...

Can't download or stream podcasts.
I'm having trouble downloading the podcasts. It bogs my computer, and I have broadband cable. In the save-to-disk popup the save button never activates, and when I try streaming it stays in buffer for ever. I downloaded some of them once before, a year or so ago, with no problems. Is it something on...

I like your second rule too. (all are invaluable 5 actually) I was working on something to make myself more productive and to quit wasting work time doing personal and/or wasteful internet browsing. I was going to call it Morning Luddite. Originally I said no internet until after Shovelglove and run...

It's similar to Pull the Lever in that it works the biceps, but is more dynamic, which adds core muscles to control the momentum, and balance. Plus it looks cool like a kata or a rifle drill. Can you say flag corps? Check the little flair at the end. (We can call it S, H, O-V-E.....L,G,L-O-V.....

Re: A different tactic
Here are my flickr photos so far: http://www.flickr.com/photos/51035706915@N01/sets/72157603435080359/ I thought about setting up a flickr group for Urban Ranger so we could all share our daily photos, but on consideration it would be a bit cheeky, because Reinhard might want to do that, if he like...

I came up with a variation during "freestyle". Wasn't sure where to put it - I think of it as tossing hay, shoveling in a deep trench. It's basically a normal shovel scoop, but then you "toss" it 180 degrees across your body plane, and high. Left handed would be: bend down and scoop near your left f...

Aaargh! - I have totally fallen off the wagon this week.
(The shovelglove wagon, that is. The other one I never even got on, though tracking.)

"I walked 14 stadia" (1.6 miles) "I walked 14,000 cubits" (3.9 miles) "I walked 14,000 paces" Appropos urban ranger, a league is defined as the distance a person (or horse) can walk in one hour, usually considered 3 - 3.5 miles. I recently started audiobooking some of the "literary classics" (read ...

My glove fell off my shovel in mid workout today. So I finished without protection. It was a big old cable-knit sweater - probably too thick, which helped it come untied. Its absence made the hammer feel so much lighter and less cumbersome. Makes me feel like I was working with a heavy a$s mop befor...

The freetotalling was what I used the last time I tried something like this. It was a short term exercise, and worked fine, but I like Glass Ceiling's approach as a habit-forming lifestyle change. Occasional binging is not a problem for me. The money's no problem either, really. Just a convenient me...

As of my 41st birthday (August 19th) I came up with the idea that I would do at least twice my weight in pushups every day. I hope you mean twice your age .... Good idea too, I may have to incorporate that! This is an application of what I'm calling "the shovelglove philosophy": small incremental e...

tackling the next habit
I am into the 3rd week of Shovelglove, well on the way to the 21 day benchmark. It segways nicely into my morning run, so even easier to make a part of the routine. Now I'm starting to reflect on what to tackle next, the Month Two resolution. I run, fairly consistently, so that's my close approximat...

Yeah, another thing I should do is move the daily checkin from the nosdiet section to the more general everyday systems section. People (inluding myself) have been using it to track multiple habits for a while, so the placement should reflect that. I should also nix the "daily" part. Reinhard I'd s...

Re: Introduction, One-A-Day Thing Diet
If I get something new, I put it in parentheses that day and get rid of two to make it up. I love that! We have been doing something similar to limit the amount of toys the kids accumulate - for every new toy they receive, they get to choose an equal old toy to be donated or disposed of, to make ro...

New to SG - a hello
Hi! decided to post in SG since that's how I discovered this site, but I do find all the other Systems intriguing as well. I was glad to find this site. I used to go to the gym, but quit that about 2 years ago to start taking Aikido. That fizzled after less than a year, due to the time it takes to r...
