Dear Kevin, Just hang in there. As a fellow diabetic (although type 2), I know how hard it is to lose weight while taking insulin. You've done a great job!! It is harder to exercise when the sun goes down so early and I think, as the weather gets colder, we all get hungrier. I have no doubt you can ...

Tuesday - Success Wednesday - sort of success. I went out after work for a drink with an old friend and we didn't eat dinner but had a bunch of "little plates" which stretched out for a while and after two vodka and tonics I realized that tonic has sugar in it. So . . . I would say "dinner" was not ...

Hi Everyone - Friday - success Saturday - brunch out, Chinese dinner - I'm afraid moderation was not my watchword but I have decided not to worry about it. Sunday - S day. Good. Monday - big success. Very stressful at work. My boss brought in a big jar of candy and I ignored it. Not easy, but I did ...

Thurday - SUCCESS I did eat a small apple about 4:30 because I knew I would have to work a little late. From after lunch to about 8:00 for dinner is too long for me. I eat a small dinner, though, because I go to bed fairly early (I'm up at 5:00 a.m.). So I don't think that will be a problem. Thanks ...

So very true!! My office is a minefield of candy jars. I try very hard NOT to see them. When I do, I want some. Simple as that. I don't keep what I shouldn't at home so that part is fairly easy.

Great article! And very true. New habits need to be constantly (and consistently reinforced). I quit smoking for two years (happily), had one cigarette with a friend, and was right back where I started in about a week. Talk about hibernation!!!

Thanks for posting that.

Wednesday success!! Today I have another office lunch and will try to stick to one plate! Out of curiosity, I weighed myself this morning (will not again for another month) and I have lost 12 POUNDS. I am assuming that this is mostly water and also realize I must have been eating a lot more than I t...

Dear Deb,

Good luck to you!! I hope you'll check in and let us know how you're doing. I'm so new to this that I have to be vigilent because so much of my eating is done without my even being aware of it.

Hey Kevin, Always nice to have company. I'm a type II but take insulin because on the oral medications I couldn't seem to keep any kind of good control. So I asked to go on insulin (my doctor was astounded) and my control is much better. I think type I is much harder to control than type II. I am im...

Day Eight - Success Day Nine - Sort of Success. I overshot the insulin I take a little at lunch and had to to ingest four glucose tablets to get my blood sugar up. I then felt really shaky an hour later so I ate a small apple. Unfortunately with diabetes, these things are going to happen. I am feeli...

Dear Snazzybabe, I have read Swartzbein. I found her first book excellent-the second a little hard to follow. Yes, I am careful about carbohydrates and try not to eat any more than 15 grams of starchy carbs (bread, corn, potatoes, etc.) at any one meal. I don't worry about non-starchy vegetables and...

Day One - SUCCESS Day Two - SUCCESS Today is Day Three. I am quite amazed at how little effort this seems to be taking and am sort of waiting for the other shoe to drop. Hi, I can't report any success yet (this is my third day) but I am 59 years old, diabetic (type 2) and take insulin so I certainly don't expect the weight to pour off!!! Speaking just for myself, I think that if I learn to do the plan properly and don't go crazy on S days, this will work, albeit slo...

Thanks for responding everyone. I have decided to eat the salad and fill up half a plate (some protein, other vegetables, perhaps a piece of fruit. I think this will work well and keep me from inadvertently going off track.

Dear Carolejo, Thanks for responding. My plan was just eat the salad and a reasonable portion of protein (3-4 oz.) with maybe another vegetable and/or a piece of fruit. That will generally fill up half a plate. Your advice about the protein on top of the salad is a good one; I'll probably do that fo...

Question About Salad

Hi, I'm new here and am planning to start this oh-so-sensible plan on Monday. I have diabetes (Type 2) and take insulin and have a great deal of weight to lose. My question is about salad. At dinner, I eat a salad (mostly mixed greens, maybe a little carrot, onion and pepper with a dressing I make (...
