Those pictures remind me of that scene from Crocodile Dundee, where he's held up by some guy with a little switch blade. He pulls out his giant knife and says, "That's not a knife - this is a knife."

Portion sizes in The Last Supper (up by 69%)

For all of you who are interested in both weight loss and history (or religion), I found this article to be pretty interesting. Except: Wansink teamed up with his brother Craig Wansink, a religious studies professor at Virginia Wesleyan College, to look at how portion sizes have changed over time by...

From 8 (9) to 12 (13) pounds

Yesterday I finally got around to weighing my shovelglove, and was surprised to find that, for over a year now, I've been using an 8 pounder. I thought I had a 10 or 12 pounder, but wasn't sure, and had never bothered to weigh the thing. With the sweater, it came to right around 9 pounds. My shovelg...

Supplementary exercises to go along with shovelglove?

I've been doing shovelglove off and on (mostly on) for over a year now, and I love it. I'm doing it in conjunction with No S for weight loss (I need to lose a *lot*), as well as just for general fitness and healthiness. I'd like to do more than just shovelglove, though, as I don't get much other exe...

Dealing with a cramped lunch schedule

I'm facing a bit of a hunger dilemma, and was wondering how you all would handle it. On Thursdays, I have work from 7:45 to 11:00, then class from 11:00 until 1:45 (with a small break from 12:15 to 12:30). After that I have to leave the university and pick up my kid from school at 2:30. The end resu...

No S failure

Well, I'm not sure what happened. I started No S and shovelglove last August, and fell in love with both. Doing them together, I was feeling better than I had in a *long* time. I was losing weight quickly. And then holidays came, and I started slipping. Then I slipped some more. And now I fin...

Shovelglove and heart health

I recently saw an article on the New York Times website which I thought might interest shovelglovers. Essentially, they've found that short bursts of high intensity exercise can benefit heart health just as much as endurance training (e.g., 40 - 60 minutes on an exercise bike, all week - yuck!) The ...

Indeed, it is. I weigh less now than I have in a couple of years, at least. Also, this was just a good mile marker for me; I still would like to lose at LEAST 54 more pounds, preferably 70.

But for now I'm aiming for 4 more to hit an even 250. :)

20lbs (at least) lost

Just thought I'd pop in and add my success story: I started No S and shovelglove on August 4th, and I've thus far lost at least 20 pounds of fat. I say "at least" because the scales show I've lost 20 pounds, but I've also packed on a lot of muscle, both in my arms and legs. I'd say I've lost more li...

All success days up to today except for: 1. September 11th, due to poor planning on my part. Success for shovelglove and No S, for Wednesday and Thursday. Wrists have been irking me a little, but after observing some more, it may simply be too much computer time. Shovelglove might exacerbate the problem, but I'm confident that it's not the cause of my condition.

Has anyone developed RSI from shovelglove?

Hey all, I've been doing shovelglove for almost 4 weeks now, and from about 2 weeks into it, I've been having some nasty problems with my left hand / wrist - numbness, and severe pain in the morning after sleep. However, I've been using computers for a *very* long time, and more than I should. I've ...

I've had a couple pieces of zucchini bread, but otherwise, it's been an N day thus far. Still, just to keep things straight on my calendar, I am marking it as an S-day, as I have snacked.

I've only been shugging for four days, so take this input with a bowl full of salt: I'd say the biggest sign that you're working your tendons / ligaments too hard is pain. :) Not the mild (or not-so-mild) achiness that settles into your muscles during shugging, but a sharp "Ow, I shouldn't have stre...
