Re: Linda's daily check-in

Sorry about your friend I had a colleague younger than I was dying over the summer one year. It was very sobering. Is that 21.5 under your weight your body fat? The media and athletic models can make it seem like we need to be a lot lower but that’s a very good body percentage for a woman. I’m in my...

I've read a fair amount of Longo's work and I'd be curious where he says it's okay to be obese, though I will say that he talks a lot more about modified fasting and the quality of the diet than about being thin. I actually wouldn't be surprised if he didn't think people do NOT need to be thin. He's...

I think the people that No S makes this kind of release for don't spend much time here, so you may not hear from them. That doesn''t mean that the ones who are here are necessarily obsessed. It just means you might not be getting the whole picture. Still, this doesn't sound like as hopeful a discuss...

I wanted to clarify something I wrote a while back. The NWS days are optional. They’re just safety nets of some big event is in the offing where food is a major issue. Not just about looking for an excuse. The weekends can usually accommodate the SOMETIMES S eating.

This is the aspiration!

Variety also increases nutrient intake. I would drink a decaf latte. Some would call this other tactic a fail, but I would sometimes have some plain broth instead.

Or eat earlier, but not everyone has that option.

No matter what, I was never sorry I just up with the discomfort instead of eating in response.

NO ONE can predict what will happen for you at any moment in your journey. It can go several different ways this weekend and on weekends six months, a year, five years from now. Why stick with it even with no guarantees? Because systemic moderate eating, as practiced with some variation in multiple ...

I find I like some of the old standbys best and with the scourge of powdered creamers, no less, though I limit use of that to S days. I have no alternate brand though I do have some unusual brand raspberry-flavored and a Kahlua-flavored on hand for pizzazz. I have "better" coffee, too, but I don't n...

Hi, vmrsbat! Haven't seen you in awhile. I've been on the board for 10 years, but didn't take it seriously until after the first year, so we have the same time in.

If whether you eat snacks or not depends on how good the available food is and how much you ate at lunch then you are back to using "bandwidth" and bargaining and that doesn't fit with the concept of systematic moderation. It's ideal if you can take that mental energy out of the mix. It's good not t...

I was kind of wishing for something like that, but I'd actually be more likely to get rid of the scale at all before I'd buy a new one. Well, I do it only a few times a year, so I guess I need to just put up with it.

And I think I forgot this morning.

Yoga is a maybe. I actually taught yoga decades ago! I was never very limber but I knew the details of basic poses very well and they needed someone at a small center. It didn't actually do for me what I hoped, but it's still a good movement system. First priority is working up to 14 minutes of vigo...

You're right, Sharon, though I've been at this for nine years and probably eat a lot fewer refined carbs than most over the course of a year. This is a fantastic week 2! Yellow is an option. You can still see the pattern of green or not green using it. I sometimes used to keep a separate Habitcal for WTH. I'd mark the regular one red for a fail, but if I didn't go overboard, I'd mark the other one green. But that might seem to defeat tryi...

I think using the measuring cup for perspective is a very good idea. Possibly sobering. Pun intended. It may be hard to accept but I'm pretty sure by medical standards, one or two glasses a day is a recommended limit for women. But getting to that is likely to be a process.

It's okay. Do your best tomorrow to look ahead and make sure you have some plan for meals. You do NOT have to have diet meals. It records it without telling you? There wouldn't be much fluctuation on a daily basis on body fat. If your scale shows much, it's not accurate. A deficit of 100 calories would burn up only the space of one tablespoon of fat on the body. That couldn't account for much of a percent. But it is interes...

Welcome! I was 56 when I started seriously. That was nine years ago. So glad I finally found it!

BTW, no one can make you eat three meals. Valter Longo, an researcher on aging and modified fasting likes a 12-hour window. He skips lunch.

You'll find your rhythm.

Octavia, that is exactly my main motivator. It's basically more painful to live with systematic overeating than not. Talk about taking a long time to get something! Decades. But it was also more painful to think traditional dieting was the solution. Then it became a point of pride.

My two cents: On No S, I am not a proponent of "fasting" for longer than between three moderate meals for people who are in at least their first several months of No S. Riley doesn't say choice will always feel good. In fact, it often won't because of what I like to call the seductive nature of many foods. I know of Gillian's work. Not an expert, but I don't think of the urge to overeat as necessarily an addiction. I think it's actually normal in humans in the presence of food and especially modern foods. That's why thinness is NOT the norm in the world now. I don't know why a few people can go from h...
