Grammy G, I think it's great that you've rounded out our bell curve. Thanks to you, and everyone, for posting.

There's probably a way to tell this from the main bulletin board somehow, but do we know how many total members there are here? We ended up with 68 replies to the poll.

...because you do have to taste what you're cooking for seasoning and balance. I'm not a professional at it, but love to cook, too, and couldn't possibly do a good job of it without tasting. I've decided to not worry about it. Sure, if I'm following No S rigidly, I'd have to count any taste as a sn...

Re: Phases of No-S (as I see them)

Reinhard should give you some sort of commission for this. Very well said, and even as a newer No S'er, I can see how much wisdom there is in what you've written. This bit really resonates for me: those who are female/close-to-healthy-weight/older/smaller/less-active. Life is not fair. IF you...

Re: Long-Time No-S-ers: Maintenance?

IAlthough I can survive this stretch, it is sufficiently difficult to make No-S remain a constant, conscious decision-- the opposite of habit. How hungry are you when you do this long term? I am not a long term No S'er. I've been at this for just over a month. But, the question you've asked above i...

Try to skip the celery. The purpose of beverages is to keep you from chewing. Chewing leads to chewing. Today, it's celery; tomorrow, it's potato chips. Ah. See, I haven't read the book (sorry Reinhard). I didn't really understand this particular point, but I suppose it makes sense. Makes me grumpy...

Well, dang. Today, I blew it. I left an open container of celery sticks on my counter for my kids to munch on, and before I knew it, I'd hoovered several. On the other hand, celery has fewer calories than the whole milk I keep in my fridge. It has a satisfying crunch which I honestly hope my milk ne...

4:30 p.m. -- The most difficult time is NOW!!

On an average day, I don't have much difficulty forestalling breakfast for several hours after I get up. I may have several cups of tea, then eat at about 9:00. Lunch at around 1:00 seems to work, too, with no real desire to eat in between. But, resisting the urge to snack in the long stretch betwee...

Hey, look! We have a nice bell-like curve. I'm on the downhill slope of the curve, but barely, at nearly 48 years old. It seemed that somewhere just past the age of 40, weight and body proportions began to change pretty markedly for me. For a few years, I remained in denial, and for another few, I j...

If it has added sugar, I'd consider it a sweet. Check the label. I'd also take into consideration what place the pop ice held in my "meal." It comes down to personal choice and what you determine to be the habits you need to form. Personally, I need to avoid anything that resembles dessert after a m...

How old are you? (anonymous option)

Hi folks, I'm curious about the range of ages represented here. Admittedly, part of my interest has to do with whether, like me, there are those past 40 who find that weight loss/maintenance is much more difficult now, in mid-life. Another part just wonders. If you'd like to elaborate on your age/we...

Age(s) of this forum members? (sorry, a little off topic)

I tried to do a search to see if there is already an existing poll which shows the ages of the participants here. I'm curious, but I don't want to set one up if it's already been done. Anyone know?

Well, it's good to know that some people modify to accommodate...erm...raging hormones. But, what if I'd really rather NOT go there?

I'd love to hear about what folks do to talk themselves out of the pantry/fridge on those days when the urge to cheat is larger than life.

RED day!! (Okay, maybe just pink.)

I am five days shy of a solid month as a dedicated No S'er, and I have felt really proud of my track record - until today. This marks my first Failure Day. It hasn't been horrific. In fact, if I wanted to, I could call this a modification, because I basically ate two small lunches, spaced evenly apa...

Thanks for the clarification everyone! I'm on Day 20 now (so still very much a newbie), and so far, haven't had any real reason to declare an NWS-day. The event the other night didn't qualify, even by my newly established standards. But, I know there are going to be times when the choice will be mor...

*S*pecial occasions -- what, when, how often?

This evening, I attended an event at 5:30. It was too early for my regular dinnertime, so instead I opted to wait and eat when I got home, around 8:00. But, I got to thinking, while standing there resisting the urge to munch on the various [delicious looking] hors d'oeuvres offered -- how often do N...

Oh, it didn't get there without some tweaking. I found I had to add more fat to meals for one thing. I didn't have much more room for food, but I felt I needed more calories. Fat takes up little room, but adds to satiety. I also include a lean protein component in almost all meals, even breakfast--...

I think this is going to shake out for you with more practice. I'm looking forward to that!! I'm having a harder time than I expected convincing my brain that it's OK for my body to feel mildly hungry as often as it does right now. Now, about exercise, it's a huge peeve of mine that you HAVE to eat before and after working out. Wait, what? I'm not sure I'm following you here. Are you saying it peeves you that many people assume they have to eat before and after a workout, when that's not the case? I don't assume that, but the...

Those of you who have increased your exercise/movement while using No S -- Do you find yourself hungrier after your "workout?" If so, how do you manage that? I have a feeling that this isn't really what you want to hear right now, but 12 days is not a very long time. For most people, No S doesn't trigger quick water loss in the beginning--the source of big weight losses at the beginning of alot of low carb diets. ...take a second to realize that you gai...

Twelve days in, and frustrated!

Hi folks. New here and arriving with a bad attitude. :x Please humor me as I give a bit of history... I stumbled upon No S by accident, though I've been mildly inclined to be more diligent about diet and exercise for awhile now. Counting calories (a la Weight Watchers) is not for me, and I can't see...
