I didn't tell anyone for the first month I was doing No-S - I guess like you I wanted to give myself an "out" if I failed! Then when I told my husband and three teens, they thought it was cool. Now of course, my youngest will ask me if it is an S day if he sees me eating something snacky  It s...

I'm sorry to hear you were struggling yesterday, but try not to be so hard on yourself! I was just reading in the McGonigal willpower book about how being forgiving of ourselves is much more effective than beating ourselves up. I recognized myself in your post - I used to get terribly anxious when w...

Thanks Sarah and Liz! When I first started No-S my S days were crazy, I would buy stuff I hadn't eaten in years just because all of a sudden, I could. I got more than a few strange looks from my husband! It was fun but also scary - but I kept reading the boards here and everyone was saying that at t...

Welcome back! It sounds like you have put a lot of thought into your S day modifications. After doing this for over 2 years you have gotten a lot of feedback for yourself on what works best for you! Reading about your (and others') experiences on these boards have given me so much optimism in the pa...

Hi Patty! I love the idea of your husband paying you to clean your house!!! That would certainly make you feel different about doing it - I think it's the appreciation thing - whenever I clean our house, I feel like no one even notices I've done it...

Hi Oolala and Liz - this is an interesting discussion and one I have thought of a lot in the past years... At a certain point it was helpful to me to realize and accept that I had an eating disorder - I think it was confrontational and made me take myself seriously and really work on healing. But af...

Don't give up and try not to be so hard on yourself! I had a ton of fails my first month on No-S and I feel that now, after 7 weeks I am finally starting to get the hang of it (and I still have fails!) At the same time, I am feeling much more positive and peaceful about food and eating than I have i...

I also think it is great and very important you can talk to your husband about this stuff, but sometimes it might be too much for family members to understand or handle and it makes us feel bad when we get all angry at them when they are just trying to be helpful and remind us of things WE asked the...

As one of the very wise people on these boards said to me after my own string of fails last week, be sure to recognise that what you are now calling a fail (a handful of pringles) is probably a lot more moderate than the types of things you'd have considered a binge before No-S. So I hope you're not...

Liz, if there is one thing I truly believe in, it's that we all have to do what is right for ourselves, and I think you are doing so well in digging deep into figuring this out for yourself. We are all unique, and what works for one person might not work for someone else. You are on a healing journe...

Thanks, Sarahkay and Liz - yes, this is it! but it is a fine line to be able to be strict with yourself but not too strict so that part of you starts to rebel against your own rules! My feeling has always been if you can have some fruit and that will prevent you from having a huge fail on other, unhealthier, foods, then it is a wise decision to have the fruit. Hang in there!

Liz, I get this 100% (especially "break the rules mode"!) and I have stood in your shoes many times in the past, and surely will at some point in the future again. This is deeply ingrained and we are probably never going to be able to completely banish this behavior. But, don't give up! And don't be...

Sounds like you'll be able to take good care of yourself before the race - that's great! I've been running since 2005, so not that long. It's definitely normal for a lot of people starting out here (me included!). And then ever so g...
