I had the exact same reaction when I read that article this morning! I even wrote a comment to that effect but it's awaiting approval so it hasn't shown up on the site yet.
Americans are just bombarded with messages to eat frequently and to eat in-between meals.

Weight loss programs shoot for those kinds of losses to justify the costs. Nobody's going to pay Jenny Craig $150 a week for a 5-10 lb. weight loss in a year. Weight Watchers monthly pass is over $40/month. Without significant losses people won't continue to pay. They're certainly not going to pay j...

Perhaps a portion control plate would help: http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s80/andrearn9/portioncontrolplate_zps696813ed.jpg The reality is there's a wide range of calories that can fit on one plate. If a plate is full of calorie-dense food, even if you're only eating 3 meals a day and not snack...

I'm a 49 year old female, No-S'ing since March (no fails). I lose about 1 lb. a month. That's right, a MONTH. I also exercise 5 days/week (cardio all five days, strength training added in on two of those days). I would like to lose another 12 lbs. If it happens, great! If not, well at least I'm eati...

One of the unspoken assumptions behind the superiority of wholesome foods is that you don't need as much to be satisfied. A small serving of the fingerling potatoes will do you just as nicely as monstro-mcfries. Don't know if this is true. I like wholesome foods for reasons other than weight managm...

No difference for me. I use Equal in my morning coffees and I drink Diet Pepsi with dinner. I don't know if it makes a difference but I don't have a sweet tooth (never did) so the artificial sweeteners I do use don't make me crave sugary foods. Maybe people with a sweet tooth struggle more if they u...

Americans seem to be on the constant lookout for that magical class of food that, when eaten in abundance, doesn't cause weight gain or, when eliminated from the diet entirely, leads to effortless weight loss. Might as well search for the Holy Grail or look high and low for a Unicorn. Right now it's...

First of all, yes you can do it. Get rid of the "I can't" self-talk. Yes, you can . I'm not saying this in a rah-rah cheerleader way, I'm saying it in a matter-of-fact way. It may not be easy but it's most certainly doable. A 3:00pm snack is a habit. When these habits are firmly established, the bod...

It sounds like a craving, an impulse to eat that isn't related to the body's need for nutrition, especially since it passes. I have found the technique of "urge surfing" to be very helpful when I experience cravings. Here is an MP3 that talks you through the process of urge surfing: http://depts.was...

They aren't a sign that your metabolism is screeching to a halt, the way some other diets might claim. It is normal and OK to have cravings, and it is not going to harm you to not fulfill the cravings. I wish the fitness magazines would admit this, rather than saying you should have a yogurt, a str...

Re: Just joined the forum....
I've always done No S with the mod of one dessert a day (since I love chocolate and really would be very sad not to eat it every day), but I wonder if having a sweet every day makes it harder to stick to No S? How many of you out there think it's important (or even necessary) to do vanilla No S, at...

My husband who has lost a lot of weight suggested at 3 P.M. that I drink a bottle of water and that should help. Plus I am going to move my lunch from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.. This is a very good idea. You may notice that, at the beginning, you have a craving or a strong impulse to eat that hits like clo...

You can try following the MyPlate recommendation when fixing your plates: 1/2 veg/fruit, 1/4 protein, 1/4 carb/grain. The reality is if you fill up your plate to heaping with calorically dense food, say Fettucine Alfredo, then of course it's not going to lead to weight loss. But a plate that is 1/2 ...

Then the issue is "food reward" which is high in processed foods, but can also be high in good-for-you healthy homemade foods. I can only speak for myself but I've avoided processed engineered food for a long time, homecook all my meals, eat very healthfully, and I still have NO problem at all gaining weight. It's quite possible to be a glutton even with nutritious healthful homecooked food. And gluttony, for me anyway, lea...
