I just solve this problem by having a bit of everything on each forkful
I make dinners with veggies/carbs/proteins that complement each other, so I actually prefer it when I get a bit of everything rather than, say, one mouthful of asparagus followed by a mouthful of rice.
It's interesting but also can't be the whole story because I have yet to meet someone who becomes obese from the sheer amount of vegetables they eat. I guess the problem is that they eat vegetables on top of all the fried stuff. I'm not saying fried stuff is bad - in moderation it isn't. But people...
Hi, When I would eat my plates of food I would put a lot of junk on them like chips, noodles, bread, cereal, etc . Sorry. That's not junk, just food. I pretty much agree - also about the extremes. Chips are kind of iffy, but I have them with a meal if I want them. It also depends on if we're talkin...
Just an update: I've been increasing the size of meals, especially lunch, and I've been managing pretty well to stick to three meals a day. I think the important thing for me is to make sure I'm getting carbs, fat and protein (and fruit/veg, but I don't think that really contributes much to satiety)...
When I say I'm hungry between meals, I mean hungry . Like, I could eat dinner at 4pm. But then I eat dinner at 6, and I'm hungry at 10. I'm probably not eating enough at my meals, though I usually feel satiated when I'm finished; in fact, I often feel downright full after breakfast and dinner. I sup...
Sooo, it's been, what, three months since I was last here? I'm ready to try again, but I've been considering why I failed last time and I'm wondering if I need to build up to Vanilla No-S. There are two main reasons why I didn't last very long last time I tried this: 1) I'm a postgrad. I'm currently...
Hmm, I'll try milk next time. I do put a fair bit of milk in my tea, so it's usually fine for at least mild hunger, but perhaps straight milk would be better. Actually, No S does entail going hungry, though it shouldn't happen soon after a meal. I think most long termers are hungry before their meal...
Thanks for the link, eschano. That's a very good point; if I use my S-days this weekend to make up for failures during the week, then it will be very easy to start to think that it's not a big deal if I fail during the week as I can just make it up by eating better on the weekend. Thank you for the ...
I'm nearing the end of my first week of No S and I've already slipped up a couple of times. The first time I was genuinely, ravenously hungry, and had tried to quell it with tea to no avail. So I had a couple crackers with cheese, on a plate, at the table. I don't consider the actual snack to be a f...
The advice is aimed at the UK, and I think he's imagining that we still eat our evening meals early. I personally usually eat by 7pm, but I think a lot of people in the UK can't manage it now, due to working late and commuting, etc. Yeah, I think the point is "don't snack all evening" rather than "...
Ooh, thanks for the recipe, noni! It looks like a nice, simple recipe that you could probably add chopped fruit to without any bother (for me using up fruit is practically the raison d'être of muffins ;) ). I think maybe I should look for older recipe books, either public domain ones online or at t...
In my older Joy of Cooking, a muffin recipe contains 1/4-1/3c sugar per batch. My older Better Homes and Garden recipe calls for 1/3-1/2c sugar per batch. My modern day Fine Cooking muffin recipes call for almost twice the flour (3+cups) and more than twice the sugar (1 1/4 c.) for 12 muffins. I co...
