Our family is just finishing a multi-week "holiday" abroad (husband has a visiting fellowship; I can homeschool anywhere), and here's how we've kept things under control (though admittedly I haven't been as consistent in my habits as I'd like; fixing that now). We keep up healthy living -- for me, t...

MaggieMae, great point about water. It's so hard when they confiscate it at security! My home airport has bottle refill stations after security, but the one I'll be flying out of leaves you the choice of filling from the questionable taps in the washroom, or paying through the nose for bottled tap w...

1320401, That seems reasonable. Honestly my breakfasts are much the same; I'm fixing breakfast for the (homeschooled) kids while husband does math lessons with them, but then have to take over lessons when he goes to work, so my own breakfast can take over an hour to consume -- sometimes I have to m...

No-S for a 30-hour day
Taking suggestions for my upcoming trans-Atlantic flight. 6 extra hours in the day, with possibly some sleep in the middle -- children permitting -- airplane/airport food only, and painfully sedentary. Has anyone done this? I want to stick to my good habits, and don't want to waste my S-day on metal...

Thanks! The last 2 years went really well, thanks to the humane sanity of no-S: I lost 35 lbs, putting me in a range my doctor is happy with; I ran a 10K with my oh-so-supportive husband as coach; I've been nicer to my kids; I've been more at peace. Then we hit some rocky family stuff and stress eat...

Daily (almost) fails - need advice
I've been doing this for a couple of weeks now, and nearly every day I run afoul of the "no snacks" rule. Sometimes I've had a fail day because of seconds, but usually it's the snacks. The thing is, these aren't strictly voluntary snacks. I'm an at-home mom with several children, and food is a big p...

Try googling "jet lag kids." I looked up advice for getting a preschooler through jet lag, and found the advice was more sensible and body-respecting than the usual advice for adults. Basically have the child (or in this case, you) be outside or have the windows open all the time, and then trust the...

I had an extra (veggie) corn dog, it being an S day. But for dessert, I made the kids a no-sugar red-white-and-blue fruit salad, with ripe strawberries, blueberries, and real whipped cream; and they said they liked it better than the sugared version! Note to self: real food is tastier, even for kids...

Go, Curious and catservant!!! I had my first fail of the month. I spent the morning doing what was some exhausting physical labor for middle-aged me - work I would normally have had my husband do, but he's on a business trip - and after I put the kids to bed, I was so hungry I felt sick. So I had a ...

(((catservant))) No shame. Last month was mostly fails for me; but when I see other people post their fails, yet keep getting back on that horse, it gives me the courage to try again. Now that travels are over and I'm in my own home, I hope for better results. Here's to July! 1 :) 2 :) 3 fail 4 S da...

violet's check-in
Hello. This is day 2 of this adventure for me. I am a little anxious because I fall into all the categories that the stage-sticky says make no-s difficult: female, middle-aged, small (well, quite short), not too much weight to lose (though at this height, a few pounds makes a big difference), and no...
