Shot-loaded hammer

Happened to see this article featuring a shot-loaded hammer that also can be plate-loaded. http://adamtglass.blogspot.com/2008/04/strongergripcom-reveals-new-hot-grip.html I went to the StrongerGrip.com website but didn't see it there. There were shot-loadable Indian clubs and a variety of other gri...

Loadable hammer

I don't recall if anyone has posted this but the Fat Bastard Barbell Co. makes a "hammer" called the Slammer that can be loaded as desired with Olympic plates. http://www.fatbastardbarbellco.com/SLAMMER.html I know there have been other postings with homemade upgrades of current hammers (quite ingen...

Now that's what I call "unbridled enthusiasm"!

Welcome aboard, Biglamboo, and best of luck with shovelglove. Looking forward to hearing about your progress in the near future.

Damn, I just got to work but I feel like swinging a hammer now.

Fast Four Rounds

Here's yet another routine I modified/bastardized from Bud Jeffries' Twisted Conditioning book. It combines weights, calisthenics and isometrics in four rounds that are to be repeated quickly for the cardio benefit. 1) 25 reps kettlebell or dumbbell 2-hand swings or your favorite SG movement. 2) The...

Reinhard, I think an "additional movements" page would be a great idea. I tried to get the ball rolling with a previous post: http://everydaysystems.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=1740 I'm sure if you did a "calling all new movements" posting we would get the ones I may have missed plus new ones, like "wavi...

A couple new hammer exercises

I happened to be looking through some videos on YouTube and saw this DVD preview that had several hammer exercises at the beginning. I'm not exactly sure what he's doing in the first one since his back is to the camera but the other ones are easy enough to follow. Feel free to come up with novel nam...

Another website that's pro-hammer

This is an e-mail from John Wood of Functional Hand Strength: I grew up in a weight room with a lot of "interesting things" (to put it mildly) so things like sledge hammers used as training tools were not something that ever struck me as out of the ordinary. To a lot of people though, training with ...

Conditioning Routine & Exercises to Increase Striking Po

Here are some more routines from Bud Jeffries that I thought some folks might be interested in. CONDITIONING ROUTINE Start off with 100 swings using a moderately heavy kettlebell or dumbbell Next do the following sets: 20 bodyweight squats Jog in place for 50 steps 15 jumping jacks Jog in place for ...

I like doing the 1-arm KB press and then going to a Windmill. I really love doing combination routines of 3-5 exercises for several rounds without setting the KB down.
I've always wanted to try the "soapy hands" swings. Did you just use liquid soap? How heavy of a KB do you use?

Here's a link to another "very large dwarf" selling a similar product. http://strongerman.com/alternative_conditioning/hammers_maces.html I'm sure they both would contain some useful movements that would lend themselves to SG-ing. I agree too that there's going to be a fair amount of footage of him ...

1000 rep workout

I found this mixed-implement, strength/conditioning workout in the newsletter of Bud Jeffies' website: http://strongerman.com/blog/2006/09/1000-reps-up-your-first-mountain.html It combines kettlebells, dumbbells, resistance bands and bodyweight exercises done in quick rounds with little rest so you ...

Yeah, KB snatches are painfully addicting in a sick sort of way. I love taking a lighter KB to the track and doing those "manmaker" workouts: 50 snatches each arm, jog/walk a lap, 40 snatches each arm, another lap, etc. I did a new routine at the the track two days ago that I got from a Zach Even-Es...

SurfingBuddha: I'm glad to hear you tried it, survived and came away with a positive experience (even with the calf pain). Yeah, I've never came close to the hurling aspect; only muscle failure. My shoulder & glutes were a bit smoked the next day. Speaking of which, I wanted to get a light, quick wo...

I put my money where my mouth was and after a brief jog at the track tonight, I came home to do some tabata thrusters to better remember the pain. The previous times I did them was at the end of a lifting workout with 10# dumbbells which kicked my butt. Since I was sorta fresh tonight, I decided to ...

I have indeed tried it with SG movements as well as dumbbells. And while the workout may appear tame at first glance, it is far from it, especially if you do multiple rounds. After a while those 20sec seem to painfully linger while the 10 sec rest goes by in a flash. Done correctly, they sure get th...

Thanks for the feedback guys.

David, the "pulling wire/starting the mower" movement sounds interesting. The name alone gives me a visual on how it might look but could you please give me a brief description on how it is actually done to ensure I am performing it correctly? Thanks again.--Mike

A Compilation of Movements

I have really been enjoying the addition of hammer exercises to my other routines and I am always eager to try new movements when they're posted. That being said, I hope I haven't overlooked any as I am a relatively new member. Here is a list of the movements I have gleaned from this forum. If you c...

Reinhard, The book it's from is called Twisted Conditioning by Bud Jeffries. The book deals with common & innovative exercises with a va...

Spear Thrust or "stoke the oven plus lunge"

As always, I apologize if this movement has previously been discussed but I saw it in one of my fitness manuals and thought I'd share it with those for whom it might be new. Begin with the same stance as "stoke the oven". In the book, the hammer was held at shoulder level (like a spear) but it would...

Now that is one great site! I see homemade versions of a lot of equipment I've purchased over the years. You're right, the hammer looks very intriguing. Sligthly crazed movements

This one clearly needs to be done outdoors or in a tall, wide room with no breakables!

This one requires a little carpentry.

Sorry about that!

I hope the links come through this way. I'm not too computer savvy. John Brookfield is a well-known strongman/author and uses a sledgehammer in many ways. Though he may not look like a finely-honed athlete, this man is insanely strong so us mere mortals may have a hard time with these four exercises...

New Movements and some useful links

Hello everyone and happy new year! First of all, I am not a SG purist as I use dumbells, kettlebells, medicine balls, sandbags, etc., in my ever-varying routine. But since discovering the SG site and this very informative discussion group, I have now have a new workout tool and some 20+ exercises to...
