It's just not possible to swing a sledgehammer in certain ways. I weigh over 230 lbs. and if I tried to swing the hammer like the video game character I would throw myself through a wall. I could do it if my feet were twice as long, maybe. I suggest just doing regular old SG for a while (at least si...

I have a good bit of experience with this. I have found that doing the basic movements like shoveling and chopping with good body coordination and proper breathing will make your "regular" weapons (sword and stick for me) much more managable. In other words, don't get fancy with the hammer--it is no...

That's a thorough accounting! I'm impressed!

Some people do Persian meel swings with a hammer. Maybe you could also include pulling wire/starting the mower.

Better too light than too heavy! You will teach yourself bad form if the hammer is too heavy and your chances of injury go way up. I usually use a 16# hammer, but this morning I used a 10# with my hands at the end of the shaft as if I was holding a sword. It was really difficult! I could have a diff...

Hold the hammer more toward the head and it should stop swinging. Don't hit the ceiling though!

No-S has always worked best for me when I don't add any more rules or restrictions. I like to go back and read the No-S home page whenever I start thinking of adding other factors into a perfectly good system. The K.I.S.S. principle is powerful. Another thing I've discovered is that when I try to ma...

If you are talking a Shovelglove move oriented warmup, I like churning butter because it's a full body movement (the way I do it) and it's easy on my back. Non-Shovelglove I use pushups, rope skipping, and riding my Indo Board.

Maybe I'm a sledgehammer fetishist--I just keep buying bigger hammers!

I actually do use them all, though. They certainly aren't rusting in the corner somewhere.

Anytime I'm in a stairwell I habitually throw in a few extra flights. Some of my officemates looked at me like I was crazy until I told them it was training for hiking. Now some of them do it too.
